Pokémon Invasion: Explaining Pokémon to Save the World

Where did my huge Magikarp go!? It was just right there!

Just as Chen Mo was about to use his Aura to check whether Magikarp had hidden itself among the lakeside weeds, Yi-ge suddenly spoke up from beside him.

”That… looks like your Magikarp.”

”What?”

Chen Mo looked up.

Between Milotic and Gyarados—

A red figure burst out of the water, leaping high into the air, instantly drawing the attention of both Pokémon.

”Fu—!”

Milotic’s pupils shrank sharply. Seeing Magikarp aligned directly between it and Gyarados, it hurriedly turned its head. The Dragon Pulse it had been charging veered off at the last moment, grazing past both Pokémon before exploding on the lake’s surface in a massive splash.

A split second later—

Splash!

Magikarp fell back into the water.

Silence.

The livestream chat filled with question marks.

[What is that Magikarp doing!? Is it suicidal!?]

[That was so close—if that hit, it would’ve been seriously injured!]

[I think it was trying to stop the fight. Gyarados is in terrible shape—if it took another hit, it might die. And since Gyarados evolves from Magikarp… maybe it wanted to save its ”kind.”]

[That’s way too reckless! What if Milotic didn’t stop in time!?]

Regardless of the speculation—

Chen Mo had already made up his mind.

Magikarp was his Pokémon.

”Pidgeotto!”

Hearing his call, Pidgeotto immediately descended.

At the same time—

Gastly floated over,

Pikachu jumped onto Chen Mo’s shoulder,

and Absol paced anxiously by the lakeside.

Chen Mo turned back and reassured it with a smile.

”Don’t worry, Absol. We’re not going to fight—we’re just bringing Magikarp back. And with Milotic’s temperament… it shouldn’t be unreasonable.”

Even in its rage, Milotic had redirected its attack to avoid harming Magikarp.

That alone proved its gentle nature.

”Let’s go, Pidgeotto.”

With a flap of its wings—

They shot into the rain, heading straight toward the battlefield.

Yi-ge followed close behind on Xatu.

Meanwhile, at the lakeside—

Only a camera…

and a very lonely Absol remained.

”…Absol.”

It stared at the sky.

So I’m just… left behind again?

Back at the lake

Gyarados was stunned.

Truthfully—

After that last roar, it had already begun to regret it.

When it saw Milotic charging another Dragon Pulse—

The regret deepened.

It knew its condition.

If that attack landed—

It might die.

Could it beg for mercy?

Maybe.

But—

As the ruler of the lake—

Its pride wouldn’t allow it.

Just as it steeled itself to face death—

A Magikarp jumped out—

Blocking the attack.

Water splashed across its body.

Gyarados stared blankly.

A… Magikarp saved me?

Before it could process—

The suppressed pain surged back.

BOOM!

Its massive body collapsed into the water.

Unconscious.

”Magikarp!”

Chen Mo arrived just in time—

But then—

Milotic closed its eyes.

The lake surged.

A current lifted Gyarados from the depths.

”Fuwu~~~”

A droplet of life-infused water fell onto Gyarados’s forehead.

”That’s Water Ring… and Life Dew,” Chen Mo explained.

Water Ring gently restored its vitality.

Life Dew rapidly healed its wounds.

Soon—

Gyarados slowly opened its eyes.

Milotic immediately stopped healing.

The water dispersed—

And Gyarados dropped back into the lake.

Gyarados: ”…”

It didn’t mind the rough treatment.

But—

Its emotions were… complicated.

Saved by a Magikarp.

Healed by an enemy.

It had never experienced anything like this.

Milotic, however—

Didn’t even want to look at it anymore.

Instead—

It turned its gaze toward Magikarp.

Curious.

After a moment—

It spoke gently.

Thank you.

Gyarados scoffed.

A Magikarp?

Worth thanking?

Ridiculous.

Then—

Magikarp opened its mouth.

”Gulu gulu…”

(You’re welcome.)

Gyarados froze.

Its fierce eyes widened in disbelief.

Milotic also paused.

This… wasn’t normal.

”Sorry for the interruption. I’m its trainer.”

Chen Mo’s voice came from above.

Milotic turned.

A human—

Surrounded by Pokémon.

So that’s why…

Unlike wild Pokémon—

Those raised by humans often showed greater intelligence.

Perhaps that explained Magikarp.

Still—

This was Milotic’s first time meeting a trainer in this world.

Compared to other humans—

It felt… a faint sense of goodwill.

But only that.

It didn’t like being seen.

Especially not like this.

If not for something important—

It would have already left.

Because of that one’s command…

Milotic sighed inwardly.

Then—

It turned to Gyarados.

”Fuwu.”

”Huh?”

Gyarados was confused.

It had already accepted defeat—

Even prepared to give up the lake.

But Milotic said:

It had no interest in ruling the lake.

It was only staying temporarily.

It would leave soon.

…What?

Before Gyarados could respond—

Milotic’s body slipped into the water—

And vanished.

”…It left.”

Chen Mo looked slightly regretful.

He still had questions.

Why was Milotic here?

Why only temporarily?

A powerful Pokémon like that—

Choosing to stay here…

Was it the lake?

Or—

The entire Zangqing Mountain?

He thought of the warning from the old Haxorus.

A coming disaster.

”…Probably not…”

He frowned.

”ROAR!”

A sudden roar shattered his thoughts.

Gyarados—

Now half-emerged from the lake—

Was staring down at Magikarp.

The chat exploded.

[Is it going to attack!?]

[Ungrateful bastard!!]

[Be careful, Chen Mo!!]

Chen Mo grew serious—

But not worried.

Gyarados was still injured.

Even at full strength—

His team could handle it.

Especially Pikachu.

Electric > Water/Flying.

Pikachu’s cheeks sparked.

Try anything… and you’re getting Thunderbolted.

Gyarados scanned the surrounding Pokémon.

Annoyed.

But—

It didn’t attack.

It wasn’t stupid.

That yellow mouse—

Was dangerous.

Then—

It looked back at Magikarp.

Its aura softened slightly—

But pride remained.

It roared again.

”You’ve done well… for a Magikarp.”

”But you’ve chosen the wrong path.”

”So rejoice.”

”You’ve met me.”

”If you want to evolve into a Gyarados—”

”Follow me.”

Silence.

Magikarp: ”...”

After a long pause—

It rolled its eyes.

Then—

Opened its mouth—

Pew!

A Water Gun blasted straight into Gyarados’s face.

”ROAR!?”
