Pokémon Invasion: Explaining Pokémon to Save the World

Yi-ge still remembered that night—

the figure riding Absol deep into the forest.

At the time, Ah Hui, holding Caterpie, wore a gloomy expression.

He blamed himself for always being the one dragging everyone down, for never being able to help when it truly mattered.

But weren’t those feelings—

exactly what Yi-ge himself felt?

Yi-ge had been assigned to Chen Mo by his superiors.

Filming the livestream was only part of his routine duties.

His real mission—

was to ensure Chen Mo’s safety.

Even if it meant sacrificing his own life.

But ever since their first encounter with Absol,

Yi-ge realized something.

The ”enemies” he faced in the wild—

were nothing like the criminals he had dealt with before.

When it came to handling Pokémon,

that young man—

was far more experienced than he was.

As time passed and they spent more time together,

Yi-ge found himself drawn to Chen Mo’s character—

and came to understand the kindness in his heart.

That night,

as he watched Chen Mo ride Absol into the distance,

he had wanted to follow.

Not just because of the mission—

but because he genuinely wanted to.

But—

just as Ah Hui understood he shouldn’t follow,

Yi-ge knew it too.

Even if he was slightly stronger than Ah Hui,

even if he had firearms—

if he forced himself to go along,

he would likely only become a burden.

And what happened afterward proved it.

The battle between Hydreigon and Chen Mo—

was something they simply could not intervene in.

If they had followed,

Chen Mo would have been forced to split his attention to protect them.

And in a life-or-death situation—

a single moment of distraction

meant death.

Yi-ge and Ah Hui were grateful

they had made the right choice.

But at the same time—

watching that battle made Yi-ge realize more clearly than ever

the helplessness of being human.

Ordinary firearms—

were no longer effective against Hydreigon.

Unless there was overwhelming firepower coverage.

But at that time,

even though Yi-ge had already called for backup—

there simply wasn’t enough time.

Finally—

Yi-ge came to a realization.

Just as Chen Mo had commanded multiple Pokémon to fight Hydreigon—

in such situations,

only Pokémon

could effectively counter Pokémon.

Yi-ge didn’t say anything aloud.

But with just a single look,

Natu understood.

After a brief hesitation—

it nodded.

After returning to Anping City,

Yi-ge first brought Natu to the Bureau.

According to policy,

any Pokémon brought back from the wild—

if both the person and the Pokémon agreed—

could be registered at the Bureau.

This functioned like an identity record.

With it, Pokémon could legally accompany humans into cities.

After that,

Yi-ge took Natu to his former training base.

Before Natu,

Yi-ge’s life had been simple:

missions when assigned,

training when not.

After Natu joined—

that didn’t change much.

Only now,

his focus shifted entirely

to training Natu.

As Chen Mo had expected,

with Yi-ge’s status,

he easily received official support:

Berries,

custom Pokéblocks,

nutritional soups,

specialized training equipment—

nothing was lacking.

But while Natu received the best resources—

it also endured the harshest training.

Man and Pokémon lived like ascetics.

Aside from eating, sleeping, and brief rests—

there was only one thing:

training.

From dawn till dusk,

day after day.

And in such an environment—

Natu finally achieved the evolution it had long awaited.

That was also the first time Yi-ge witnessed

that radiant light of life.

A man who rarely smiled—

stood there,

listening to the excited cries from within the evolution light—

and showed

a truly brilliant smile.

…

At this point,

Chen Mo could no longer refuse Yi-ge.

Previously,

his main concern had been Yi-ge’s safety.

But now—

the evolved Xatu possessed considerable combat ability.

With its Psychic/Flying typing,

even if they encountered powerful Pokémon,

it could at least carry Yi-ge to safety.

And beyond that—

Xatu’s ability to foresee the future,

and its sensitivity to Legendary Pokémon—

might even prove unexpectedly useful

in the search for Zekrom.

After a simple day of preparation—

early the next morning,

Yi-ge arrived at Chen Mo’s doorstep.

After a full day of buildup,

the livestream announcement had drawn massive attention.

Even before Chen Mo went live,

countless viewers were already waiting in the stream.

[I haven’t even finished watching the replays, and a new stream is starting… what a happy problem.]

[Bro, if you want to watch all of Chen Mo’s past streams, that’ll take a while. I recommend checking out clips from other creators—they’re not as polished as the official documentary, but they help you catch up quickly.]

[It’s fine, I actually enjoy watching the full streams. Those clips skip over Chen Mo’s daily interactions with his Pokémon, and I don’t like that.]

[Same, I watch for those small, everyday moments. Just seeing him interact with Pokémon makes me happy… Wait, ”Mr. Chen Mo”? That sounds so serious.]

[I think ”Mr. Chen Mo” is great. ”Sir” is a respectful title for scholars and accomplished individuals. Given his contributions, it’s totally appropriate.]

[Not inappropriate… but isn’t it a bit too formal? This is a livestream…]

[What does that have to do with it? Don’t you think calling him ”Mo-bao” is too casual?]

[Too formal isn’t good, too casual isn’t good—how about ”Teacher Mo”?]

[As a ten-year Mo-bao fan, I object! My Mo-bao! ┭┮﹏┭┮]

Amid the chaotic barrage of comments—

the stream finally began.

”Mo-bao,”

”Mr. Chen,”

”Mr. Chen Mo,”

”Teacher Chen,”

”Teacher Mo,”

”Silent Teacher”—

all kinds of titles flooded the screen.

Chen Mo, seeing this right after going live—

froze for a moment.

”…What is going on now?”
