Milotic swam far too quickly—before Yi-ge could even turn the camera, it had already disappeared.

”Out hunting for food?”

Chen Mo muttered.

Through Magikarp, he had already gained a rough understanding of the Milotic currently residing in Chengying Lake.

If nothing else—

This Milotic was extremely reclusive.

According to information from Gyarados, aside from necessary feeding, Milotic rarely moved about within the lake.

So when Chen Mo saw it, his first thought was that this somewhat ”homebody-type” Milotic had come out to forage.

[Calling it a homebody is wild 😂]

[Same here, I love staying at home—Milotic’s personality is perfect]

[Give up. With that size, unless you own a pond, you can’t raise it]

[Honestly, we’ve only seen Psyduck once so far, and that’s common. Where are you even going to find Milotic?]

[I can’t have one, but knowing rich people can’t either makes me feel better]

Since arriving in this world, Chen Mo had introduced quite a number of Pokémon.

Aside from the Legendary Pokémon Suicune, the one whose popularity rose the fastest after its debut—

Was Milotic.

Even now, major websites were filled with trending topics about it.

Its popularity was obvious.

Seeing how much the audience adored Milotic, Chen Mo suddenly smiled.

”Milotic is indeed a very rare Pokémon. Finding and directly capturing one in the wild is basically like hitting the jackpot.”

”However, if you really want one of your own, I do have a suggestion—”

”You can start by raising its pre-evolution, its juvenile form.”

The chat instantly exploded.

[WHAT!? Milotic has a pre-evolution!?]

[Damn it! Why didn’t you tell us earlier!? I thought it was like Absol and didn’t evolve!]

[Calm down and let him explain!]

[If Milotic is rare, wouldn’t its pre-evolution also be rare?]

[Based on experience, some Pokémon are rare only because evolution is hard—like Gyarados vs. Magikarp]

”That comment is correct,” Chen Mo nodded.

”Milotic is very rare—but its pre-evolution is not rare at all.”

”If Magikarp ranks first in population among Water-type Pokémon…”

”Then Milotic’s pre-evolution would at least rank second.”

[You’re kidding, right?]

[So the evolution difficulty must be insane]

[Is it another emotional evolution like Magikarp?]

Chen Mo continued:

”Milotic’s pre-evolution is called Feebas.”

”The name itself already creates a huge contrast with Milotic, doesn’t it?”

”And that’s because Feebas… is genuinely unattractive.”

”It has the same dull eyes as Magikarp.”

”But while Magikarp at least has a crown-like fin, Feebas has tattered fins, a body full of bumps and rough patches, and a muddy brown coloration.”

”It looks extremely shabby.”

”The only thing worth mentioning—”

”Is its incredible resilience, much like Magikarp.”

”As for its evolution…”

”It’s exactly as you imagined—special, and extremely difficult.”

”No less difficult than Magikarp evolving into Gyarados.”

In the games, Feebas evolves into Milotic by reaching high Beauty or via a Prism Scale trade.

But in reality—

That ”beauty” requirement was even more abstract than friendship evolution.

To evolve a Feebas into Milotic—

Even ”one in ten thousand” might be an understatement.

Chen Mo even suspected that wild Milotic might be rarer than wild Gyarados.

[Yeah, I’ll just go for Gyarados—anger is easier than beauty]

[Milotic = peace, Gyarados = conflict. Total opposites]

[Why do they feel weirdly matched…]

[Say it—couple vibes]

[No way, Gyarados doesn’t deserve Milotic]

[Different species anyway!]

[Honestly… species might not matter that much…]

Chen Mo glanced at the chat and nodded.

”Indeed, species doesn’t have to be that restrictive.”

The chat didn’t react at first and kept joking around.

But then—

Chen Mo’s calm voice came from off-screen:

”I’m not joking.”

Silence.

[Wait… what?]

[Did I hear that right?]

[This isn’t April Fool’s, right?]

[Different species can reproduce!?]

[But what about biological barriers!?]

[My brain is melting]

Chen Mo slowly explained:

”I know what you’re thinking. But Pokémon don’t follow conventional biological rules.”

”In another world, researchers discovered that different Pokémon species can indeed reproduce.”

”However, it’s not without rules.”

”There is a special principle—”

”Pokémon that can breed share one or more common biological traits.”

”For example, Milotic and Gyarados.”

”The reason I said their species distinction doesn’t matter much—”

”Is because both possess dragon-like characteristics.”

The chat erupted again.

[This feels like a biology class]

[Are there human-like Pokémon then…?]

[…What are you planning!?]

[Milotic looks more like a serpent though]

[Snakes becoming dragons is a thing in mythology]

[But they’re not Dragon-type!]

Chen Mo continued:

”As I mentioned before, most Pokémon are born from eggs.”

”Based on their biological traits, researchers proposed a classification system—”

”Egg Groups.”

”For example, Pokémon that resemble beasts or are more feral are classified into the Monster Egg Group.”

”Those that resemble birds or bats and can fly are placed into the Flying Egg Group.”

”A Pokémon can belong to one or two Egg Groups.”

”And as long as two Pokémon share the same Egg Group, they can breed.”

”As for the offspring—”

”It will always be the species of the mother.”

”So there won’t be cases like mules or ligers.”

Chen Mo spoke casually as he walked.

”Of course, cross-species breeding isn’t very common among Pokémon.”

”So even though researchers discovered this rule, the system is still incomplete.”

”Some Pokémon still don’t have clearly defined Egg Groups.”

[Makes sense—preferences still exist]

[So Egg Groups are like compatibility categories]

[Do Legendary Pokémon have Egg Groups?]

[Probably not—many are unique beings]

[Wait, what about Suicune? Wasn’t it revived by Ho-Oh?]

[So how many Egg Groups are there?]

[Yeah, that’s the real question]

Chen Mo smiled mysteriously.

”As for how many Egg Groups there are…”

”If you want to know—”

”Download the Pokédex.”

”I’ve already put everything I know in there.”

The chat filled with question marks.

[???]

[Since when did you start doing this marketing trick!?]

[What Pokédex!?]

[Oh! That thing from the documentary!?]

[I heard it’s launching soon—and it’s FREE!?]

And just like that—

The topic shifted from Pokémon biology…

To something that would soon change the entire world:

The Pokédex.
