Pokémon Invasion: Explaining Pokémon to Save the World

The birth of the Poké Ball came much faster than Chen Mo had expected.

Just three days after that phone call, Professor Zhou called again. The first thing he said was:

”We succeeded, Xiao Mo!”

Chen Mo was thrilled. He immediately canceled his training plans for the day and, early in the morning, rushed to the Bureau with all his Pokémon—except Magikarp.

He headed straight for the laboratory.

The moment the door opened, a group of researchers in white coats—all with heavy dark circles—turned to look at him.

”…”

For a moment, Chen Mo thought he had come to the wrong place.

But seeing their exhausted faces, he quickly understood why development had progressed so fast.

After silently thanking them, he followed their guidance to a tightly closed room.

Before entering, he heard a voice from inside:

”Third test, preparing to begin.”

Chen Mo pushed the door open.

Inside, more tired eyes turned toward him. A silver-haired old man—Professor Zhou—smiled faintly upon seeing him.

”Xiao Mo, come over.”

”Alright.”

The crowd parted, and Chen Mo walked forward, noticing Hu Chengliang standing in the center, holding an orange-yellow sphere.

That was—

A Hisui-style Poké Ball.

In front of him stood a Nidoran♀, staring at the ball.

Hu Chengliang didn’t rush. He crouched down and gently patted Nidoran.

”Don’t be afraid. It’ll be over soon.”

”Nana~”

Nidoran rubbed against his hand affectionately.

Because Hu Chengliang often took care of the Pokémon in the ecological park, most of them trusted him. That’s why he was chosen to conduct the test.

Still…

He was nervous.

And so, a strange scene formed:

The human holding the Poké Ball looked anxious—

while the Pokémon looked calm and trusting.

”I’m going to start, Nidoran.”

”Nana~”

Taking a deep breath, Hu Chengliang threw the ball—

It arced beautifully through the air…

…and completely missed.

Thunk.

It landed behind Nidoran.

Hu Chengliang: ”…”

Chen Mo nearly burst out laughing. Even Professor Zhou facepalmed.

The room filled with laughter.

Meanwhile, Nidoran looked at the ball beside it, sniffed it, and nudged it curiously.

The next second—

The Poké Ball activated.

A burst of white light enveloped Nidoran and pulled it inside.

Steam puffed from the ball as it clicked shut.

”…Alright then.”

Missed throw? No problem—the Pokémon just went in by itself.

The test wasn’t over.

Hu Chengliang picked up the ball and opened it.

White light flashed—

Nidoran reappeared in his arms.

”How do you feel? Any discomfort?”

”Nana~”

It shook its head happily.

”Looks like the third test is a success,” Professor Zhou said with satisfaction.

At this point, Chen Mo couldn’t hold back anymore.

”Professor Zhou, can I try?”

”You can, but your Pokémon are outside, right?”

”I’ll bring them in.”

Zhou chuckled. ”Let’s move to the training ground. It’s bigger.”

On the way, Professor Zhou explained the Poké Ball’s properties:

Single binding: Once a Poké Ball captures a Pokémon, it cannot capture another.Energy resonance: The ball emits energy that resonates with the Pokémon, forming a bond.Comfort inside: Pokémon feel no discomfort inside—rather, they feel unusually comfortable.

Then came an interesting discovery:

”When we studied Banette—the one belonging to Xiao You—we found it could shrink itself. The energy it emits is nearly identical to the Poké Ball’s.”

”So we believe…”

”It’s not that the Poké Ball shrinks Pokémon—

Pokémon already have that ability. The ball simply activates it.”

Chen Mo was genuinely impressed.

They had figured out the core principle on their own.

A researcher suddenly chimed in proudly:

”I discovered that!”

He then launched into a long-winded explanation—until Professor Zhou shot him a cold look.

”…Next time he talks to you, ignore him,” Zhou sighed.

Soon, they reached the outdoor training field.

Before entering, strange sounds could be heard.

”Ghost-type energy… and maybe fire-type?” Chen Mo frowned.

Haunter nodded uncertainly.

Professor Zhou smiled. ”I know what this is.”

Inside—

A battle was underway.

”Yanyan, use Ember!”

A small orange puppy opened its mouth, gathering fire.

Chen Mo’s pupils shrank.

”Growlithe!?”

”Yes,” Zhou said. ”They’re the second species we relocated.”

The opponent—

A Banette.

And behind it stood Xiao You.

Flames shot forward.

Xiao You hesitated—

The attack hit.

”Follow up with Flame Wheel!”

Growlithe charged, engulfed in fire.

”Dodge!” Xiao You cried at the last second.

Banette barely avoided it.

”Fire Fang!”

”Shadow Claw!”

The two Pokémon clashed—

Fire and ghost energy collided.

But the result was clear.

Banette, strengthened by residual resentment energy, overwhelmed Growlithe.

One Shadow Claw—

Growlithe fell.

The short-haired female officer rushed forward.

”Yanyan, you did great…”

Researchers handed out Sitrus Berries for recovery.

At that moment, Chen Mo stepped forward.

”If you don’t mind, try these potions.”

”Chen Mo-gege!” Xiao You beamed.

He handed them the medicine and guided them.

While helping, Chen Mo observed the officer.

From Zhou’s explanation, he learned:

Growlithe had been relocated to a police training baseOfficers initially hesitated… then fell in love with themGrowlithe would choose their own trainers

But very few passed their standards.

This woman—

Was one of them.

In fact, multiple Growlithe had chosen her.

And then—

Chen Mo noticed something.

Her surname.

Jun .

Just like—

Officer Jenny (Junsha).

He muttered:

”…Is this fate?”

”Hm? What fate?” she asked.

Chen Mo paused.

Looking at her again—

He suddenly felt she really did resemble Officer Jenny.
