After taking a Water Gun straight to the face, Gyarados left in a huff. Before departing, it even threw out a harsh line:

”Then stay a Magikarp for the rest of your life!”

[LOL, doesn’t it know Chen Mo’s Magikarp doesn’t even want to evolve? Staying a Magikarp forever sounds great to it!]

[I swear, when Gyarados left, it looked angry… but also kinda disappointed.]

[Really? I didn’t notice that. But it was pretty restrained—Magikarp blasted it in the face and it still didn’t attack.]

[It’s injured, surrounded, and outnumbered. Reckless doesn’t mean stupid.]

”Good… that’s settled.”

Watching Gyarados disappear, Chen Mo finally let out a breath of relief.

Even though he wasn’t afraid of fighting, avoiding battle was always preferable. Wild Pokémon fights weren’t sparring matches—things could turn deadly in an instant.

Then he looked down at Magikarp.

”You’ve got some nerve.”

”Gulu gulu…”

”Oh, now you’re playing dumb?”

On camera—

Magikarp stared blankly, blowing meaningless bubbles, as if to say:

Who, me?

Chen Mo sighed.

He used to think his Magikarp was obedient…

But after breaking out of its Poké Ball—and now jumping into a battle between Milotic and Gyarados—

That assumption needed revision.

Just as Chen Mo was about to scold it—

Magikarp opened its mouth and shot up a small fountain.

”Pika~!”

Pikachu clapped happily.

Chen Mo: ”...”

[I haven’t seen Magikarp do that in so long—nostalgia hits hard.]

[It was in the documentary though!]

[Not the same feeling as live!]

Chen Mo shook his head helplessly.

”Fine. I’ll let this one slide because of the situation… but next time, don’t act on your own like that. If you want to do something, tell us first.”

He still felt a chill thinking about that Dragon Pulse earlier.

What if Milotic hadn’t held back?

Right then—

Pikachu said something to Magikarp—

And suddenly jumped off Pidgeotto.

Splash!

Before Chen Mo could react—

Pikachu was already riding on Magikarp’s back, gripping its crown-like fin, laughing happily.

”Pika pika~!”

”...”

Chen Mo quickly had Pidgeotto descend—

But Magikarp simply flicked its tail—

And began swimming smoothly, carrying Pikachu with ease.

Chen Mo fell silent.

He had a strange feeling—

Magikarp was proving something.

Like:

”See? I’m tough enough. That wouldn’t have killed me.”

Watching Pikachu joyfully riding Magikarp across the lake—

Chen Mo rubbed his forehead.

Still, he kept Pidgeotto flying low nearby—just in case.

[You can feel Chen Mo’s exhaustion through the screen.]

[Parenting simulator unlocked.]

[Pikachu has officially achieved ”ride everything” status.]

[Bird, ghost, Absol, Magikarp… even Chen Mo himself lol]

Amid the chatter—

Chen Mo glanced at the comments and began explaining:

”When I first went to Hongye Lake, I mentioned a special evolution method for Magikarp.”

”They accumulate strength through migration, then leap up a waterfall. Those who succeed evolve into Gyarados.”

”But here’s the key question—”

”What about Magikarp that never reach the ocean?”

[I remember! Evolution mainly depends on accumulation—once enough energy and experience are gathered, they can evolve naturally!]

”Exactly.”

Chen Mo nodded.

”Most Pokémon evolve through accumulation. But some don’t—even when they’ve already reached that threshold.”

”Some need evolution items. Others need a trigger—a strong emotion or belief.”

”Sounds abstract, right?”

”But it’s actually very common.”

”Take my Pidgeotto.”

”Pidgeotto!”

It cried proudly.

[Ah yes—the evolution during the territorial battle!]

[It evolved to protect its group and Chen Mo!]

[So evolution can be triggered by willpower!?]

”Correct.”

Chen Mo smiled.

”Back to Magikarp.”

”There are many that have enough accumulation—but never evolve.”

”That’s due to two key traits of their species.”

”First…”

”…they’re not very bright.”

[LMAO]

[Poor Magikarp catching strays]

”They mostly act on instinct—training their bodies, accumulating experience.”

”As for evolution?”

”They’d say: ’What’s that? I’m just a fish.’”

”Which leads to the second trait—”

”They’re particularly sensitive to anger.”

[That explains Gyarados’ temper!]

[So anger = evolution trigger!?]

[Super Saiyan Magikarp confirmed]

”In many cases, once enough accumulation is reached—”

”Anger is the easiest way to trigger evolution into Gyarados.”

Chen Mo recalled a classic example—

A Magikarp kicked by James from Team Rocket—

Instantly evolving out of rage.

But his own Magikarp…

He had never seen anger in it.

So was that what Gyarados meant?

”You’ve taken the wrong evolutionary path…”

Under Aura perception—

Deep beneath the lake—

A massive blue tail swayed—

And vanished into the depths.
