By the time Chen Mo returned home, it was already past noon.

Magikarp, lying quietly in the pool, heard a rush of hurried footsteps. Turning its head, it saw Chen Mo suddenly push open the glass door to the backyard and shout excitedly:

”Magikarp, we can finally travel together!”

”Gulu gulu?”

Magikarp flipped over, its eyes full of confusion.

Then it noticed something—

The four Pokémon that had gone out with Chen Mo earlier were nowhere to be seen.

Even Pikachu, who usually clung to Chen Mo’s shoulder, was gone.

What happened?

Puzzled, Magikarp slowly swam from the center of the pool toward the edge.

”Gulu gulu…”

”Hehe, you’ll see in a moment.”

The man by the pool simply smiled mysteriously.

Then—

He placed his backpack down, opened it quickly, and took out five orange-yellow spheres.

Magikarp’s eyes narrowed slightly.

Although the design and color were somewhat different from what it had seen in another world, combined with what Chen Mo had just said…

It already had a guess.

Poké Balls.

”Magikarp, do you know what this is?”

”…”

Magikarp fell silent.

At a time like this, it was probably better to pretend it didn’t know.

After all, it was ”just” a Magikarp. Not knowing about Poké Balls was perfectly reasonable.

So—

It adopted the same ”wise” expression commonly seen among its kind in Red Leaf Lake.

”Gulu gulu…”

”Hehe, you don’t know, huh?”

Chen Mo grinned foolishly.

”This thing is amazing. Let me show you a magic trick.”

Magikarp continued playing along, its eyes filled with curiosity.

What could it be?

Chen Mo’s smile grew even wider.

He picked up four Poké Balls, stepped back, unlocked them, and tossed them into the air.

The balls spun—

Magikarp’s gaze followed upward.

Pop!

As the balls opened, four beams of white light burst out and landed beside the pool.

”Pika pika!”

”Keh keh!”

”Bii bii!”

”…”

Pikachu and Haunter immediately made faces at Magikarp, as if saying—

Surprised? We came out of these balls!

Pidgeotto greeted it with a smile in its eyes.

Only Absol remained aloof, looking at its silly companions with mild exasperation.

Chen Mo watched Magikarp’s ”shocked” expression with satisfaction.

Perfect.

This was exactly the reaction he wanted.

He had told the other four Pokémon about Poké Balls—but deliberately kept Magikarp in the dark.

Even made them keep it a secret.

All for this moment.

”Magikarp, this is called a Poké Ball. As the name suggests, it lets you stay inside and travel with us…”

Chen Mo began explaining.

Magikarp nodded as if half-understanding.

At the same time, it finally realized something—

This man…

Had stayed home this long just for this.

Waiting for Poké Balls—

So Magikarp could travel with them.

What a fool.

Magikarp sighed inwardly.

It didn’t fear loneliness. As long as Chen Mo didn’t forget it, that was enough.

It had even planned—

If Chen Mo left again, it would just ask someone to bring it a phone and watch the livestreams instead.

That would count as traveling together, in its own way.

Even if Chen Mo didn’t know.

”Magikarp, if you’re ready, I’ll put you into the Poké Ball now.”

Magikarp looked at him—

And for some reason, felt happy.

It nodded.

Chen Mo gently touched the Poké Ball to Magikarp’s forehead.

The ball activated instantly.

A soft white light enveloped Magikarp.

Warm energy filled its body—

Like being embraced by the ocean itself.

So this is a Poké Ball…

Magikarp thought.

But—

Why didn’t it feel restrictive at all?

This was… different from what it remembered.

On the outside—

Chen Mo smiled.

At last.

Everyone could travel together.

”Alright, Magikarp, I’ll let you out now.”

He aimed the Poké Ball at the pool—

BOOM!

The Poké Ball suddenly exploded in his hand.

Fragments scattered into the water.

A flash of white—

Splash!

Magikarp reappeared in the pool.

Chen Mo: ”…”

Magikarp: ”…”

Haunter: ”Keh!” (Impressive!)

Magikarp hadn’t expected this at all.

It had only tried to push outward slightly—

And the ball just… exploded.

Chen Mo looked at Magikarp.

Magikarp looked back.

Silence.

To be honest—

Chen Mo had expected Haunter to cause something like this.

After all, with these travel-version Poké Balls, if a Pokémon resisted, they could easily break.

So he had warned Haunter repeatedly.

But Magikarp?

He hadn’t even thought about it.

”Magikarp… did something feel uncomfortable inside?”

”Gulu gulu…”

Magikarp shook its head.

It sighed inwardly.

Fine. My fault. Just scold me.

Seeing that it wasn’t due to discomfort, Chen Mo didn’t mind much.

It was just one broken Poké Ball.

He could easily get more from the Bureau.

Still—

Watching Haunter’s scheming expression, he decided:

Better keep extra Poké Balls on hand.

And maybe… don’t let Haunter use them too often.

That evening—

Chen Mo called Professor Zhou again.

”…Poké Balls are no problem. You can have as many as you want. I’ll send some over tomorrow. But…”

Zhou hesitated.

”Xiao Mo… are you really going to give us the potion formulas and Pokémon medical technology?”

”Yes.”

Chen Mo answered without hesitation.

”I trust you.”

Zhou fell silent.

When he spoke again, his voice was solemn.

”We won’t betray that trust.”

Potions alone were already invaluable.

And Pokémon medical technology?

Even more so.

It could benefit not just Pokémon—but humans as well.

Possibly advancing the entire world’s medical field.

After hanging up—

Chen Mo rubbed his temples.

”One lie really does require countless others to maintain…”

He sighed.

But at least—

With Poké Balls and medical systems in progress—

He didn’t need to rush out more ”technology” for now.

Just before ending the call earlier—

Professor Zhou had added:

”In a few days, we’ll be making a major move. It might stir resentment among those who hate Pokémon.”

”You’re very well-known now.”

”So be careful. Don’t let public opinion affect you.”
