Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Several experiments finished, and the results were far from ideal. This also meant Wen Yu was almost certainly not going to be able to crazily refresh his Soul Strength through the Soul Balance Scale.

The strategic value of the Soul Balance Scale instantly dropped by more than half.

In other words, this skill was basically just a pure nuclear weapon; it couldn’t be used as regular combat power. Luckily, this time Wen Yu had Faceless activate the Soul Battlefield—only then did he manage to preserve this super trump card that could only take effect once every fifty years.

He just didn’t know whether this skill could be used on the Dominator...

A thought abruptly flashed through Wen Yu’s mind, startling even himself. But thinking it over carefully, this speculation didn’t seem impossible.

The greater the restriction on an ability, from a certain angle it also has to be stronger... Thinking of this, Wen Yu suddenly thought of Tang Haofei’s Life and Death Battle Execution.

The side effects of Life and Death Battle Execution couldn’t be erased even by the Dream becomes Reality Skill System, and the cooldown, from a certain angle, could barely be classified as a kind of side effect too. Looking at it now, these two skills should be the two most special abilities Wen Yu had ever seen.

So do these two skills have anything in common...?

After thinking for a while, Wen Yu shook his head.

This question was just divergent thinking; whether they did or not, Wen Yu had no way to confirm it, so thinking about it was pointless.

...

After dealing with the Soul Balance Scale issue, Wen Yu once again turned his gaze to Cyclops’s and Victor’s New Skills.

His soul pets had long since been trained by Wen Yu into dad-tier existences. Correspondingly, the New Skills gained upon advancement had absurdly high power.

Cyclops and Victor, and even Star and Luo Luo, all obtained Esoteric Level skills.

But after a quick scan, Wen Yu found that the New Skills of his soul pets didn’t include any rare abilities that could generate a new Skill System or trigger a qualitative transformation; instead, they were all some buff-type skills or Limit Breakthrough Level abilities that could only serve as icing on the cake.

Death Resistance (Species-specific Esoteric Level, Passive Skill): Born for battle, and destined to die in battle. After learning this skill, the host will gain an extremely strong resistance to death. At the brink of death, the power hidden deep within the body will be fully activated, instantly restoring all of the host’s states back to peak!

After leaving combat, the host’s physique upper limit increases by Level * 10,000 points.

Note: This skill’s cooldown time is seven days.

A skill that combines both lifesaving and limit-breaking in one; put onto an ordinary Peak Level 8 professionist, it would be enough to support them into becoming a Sequence-class powerful expert—just the limit-breaking effect alone could be called outstanding.

At Level 8, each time Death Resistance triggers, it can increase the physique upper limit by 80,000 points. Although it has a cooldown, it’s only seven days. Its terrifying nature goes without saying; it can fully be called a weaker version of Life and Death Battle Execution.

However, once this skill was placed on Cyclops, it became a bit tasteless.

80,000 physique points every seven days—Wen Yu could surpass that with a single sentence! Plus, with the Blood and Flesh Badge and Ultra Mortal Combat in hand, Cyclops basically didn’t need the lifesaving function of Death Resistance. Or at least, this lifesaving effect was indeed dispensable for Cyclops.

Nice to have, but if he didn’t, it wasn’t a big deal.

All in all, this was just something you could let sit there, but could never serve as a main combat skill—a piece of chicken rib.

Still, there was no need to cleanse it. Wen Yu didn’t have any better skills on hand anyway, so leaving this thing on Cyclops was fine for now.

Victor’s skill, though, left Wen Yu even more conflicted.

Reality and Illusion. Super Speed Regeneration (Netherworld derivative ability) (Soul Master derivative ability) (Species-specific Esoteric Level, Active Skills): Illusory power augments the self, partially altering the host’s bodily nature!

After obtaining this skill, the host’s body will transform into a phantom body, and any damage suffered (except instant-death damage) will be completely restored in the next instant! Restoration will consume a huge amount of stamina, but there is no cooldown limit.

(That’s right, you didn’t misread. From now on, please call me Robot Cat! Or maybe a magic lamp?)

Netherworld derivative ability... Soul Master derivative ability...

Wen Yu’s previous assessment had indeed been correct. Victor was absolutely the soul pet most compatible with the Soul Master profession, yet staring at Reality and Illusion. Super Speed Regeneration, Wen Yu had a curse stuck in his throat that he just couldn’t spit out.

A terrifying ability that granted Victor, and by extension Wen Yu, an insane undying nature—but unfortunately, it conflicted...

This skill was basically no different from Photosynthetic Spirit Motifs—both made you unkillable, both synergized with Truth and Illusion. Dream Come True. If Wen Yu didn’t have Photosynthetic Spirit Motifs, this skill would have completed the final link of the Dream Come True Skill Group. But in reality, Wen Yu already possessed a similar regeneration ability.

As the number of skills increases, the odds of overlapping functions also rise. There hadn’t been any such cases before, but upon hitting Level 8, that bitch Goddess of Luck finally gave Wen Yu a solid kick!

This wasn’t even something you could describe as ”icing on the cake.” In Wen Yu’s eyes, Reality and Illusion. Super Speed Regeneration was completely a trash skill!

Truth and Illusion. Reality Shift could be adjusted by the Soul Master to control how much of the burden he should bear. In other words, even if Victor fought independently, Wen Yu could still shoulder the cost paid by the Dream Come True Skill System. And with Photosynthetic Spirit Motifs on hand, that cost in Wen Yu’s eyes was just light drizzle...

This directly stripped Reality and Illusion. Super Speed Regeneration of any reason to exist!

After hesitating only a short while, Wen Yu immediately summoned Victor and waved his hand, ripping Reality and Illusion. Super Speed Regeneration off Victor, then crushed it in one go!

Trash thing, doesn’t do shit...

Thinking back to Victor’s performance on the battlefield just now, Wen Yu pondered for a moment, then pulled out another skill scroll from his space ring.

Raging Wind (Species-specific Esoteric Level, Active Ability): Gale! Answer my command! After learning this skill, the host will master the power of the gale!

A simple Esoteric Level elemental type skill, a middling existence even among Esoteric Level skills—better than some, worse than others.

Back in Africa, when the Level 6 Level Lock had just shattered, Cyclops had encountered a Demon Fiend in the East African Rift Valley named Koray, who possessed the power to control gales. Wen Yu had sent Cyclops to hunt Koray down, but Cyclops captured Koray instead—just because Victor was extremely envious of Koray’s skill.

Elemental type abilities, while straightforward, could be considered comprehensive. Wind-type powers also suited Victor’s combat style quite well. Unfortunately, that extraction failed, so Victor inevitably felt a bit disappointed.

Since then, Wen Yu had kept it in mind, but in the meantime Victor had swapped skills several times, each time having better alternatives—especially after Truth and Illusion. Reality Shift appeared, Victor completely abandoned his desire to seek wind-type abilities.

Mere elemental powers were far too inferior compared to the Dream Come True Skill System!
