Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

A single match did not satisfy Lin Que and his companion. They removed their virtual arena neural wave helmets and clamored for another billion rounds.

The Corpse Puppet naturally nodded in agreement. As the supreme commander of the Soul Puppet Legion, in times of peace without large-scale wars, there indeed wasn’t much to do. The combination of Lin Que and Fang Yuqiong was arguably the most equally matched opponent the Corpse Puppet could find for sparring.

After watching three more one-sided matches, Wen Yu lost interest. He quietly left the virtual arena, wandered aimlessly in the District 7 Branch Base for a while, then headed directly towards the teleportation channel in District 7.

During his time watching, Wen Yu had also come up with a rough plan for his next steps — the main city of the tiered battleground was not the best place for Wen Yu to hide, simply because it was the core of his power, and it would inevitably be a key monitoring target for the Treasure Land Protectors. If any slip-ups occurred, and the Dominator’s lackeys came knocking, the impact and destruction of ensuing battles would be unbearable.

Wen Yu naturally couldn’t hide out in the main city of the tiered battleground, and during his time back, he found that his faction (though he never thought much of its usefulness) operated smoothly without him, requiring no concern from him. Therefore, for Wen Yu, finding a peaceful, long-term place to live was undoubtedly the top priority.

And the choices here were too vast... to use a saying, the world is a big place, where can one not go?

Just now, Wen Yu had made up his mind.

...

”Sir, you see, this is the Maple Leaf Residential Area. There are three houses for sale here, with areas of 128 square meters, 108 square meters, and 88 square meters, respectively. Which one would you like to see first?”

”Let’s start with the 128 square meters one.”

”Alright, sir, let me tell you, you’re in luck. The owner of this house just moved to the main city of the tiered battleground a week ago. It’s said the male owner struck it rich in the treasure land. The house has good lighting and is move-in ready, fully equipped with all household appliances and kitchenware set up nicely for you...”

The real estate agent spoke eloquently, and Wen Yu just listened for the entertainment. His perception ability quickly spread out, scanning the entire town in a short time.

Nothing out of the ordinary... the strongest professionist was only the chief of the town’s police department, at Early Stage Level 5...

Maple Leaf Town, one of Cathay’s immigration points, located in District 1, Mainland Bloc Number 0523, a back area of the tiered battleground, an absolutely safe zone.

The entire town was not large, comprising only the Maple Leaf Residential Area with fifty or so buildings accommodating the entire population of Maple Leaf Town.

Similar towns exist in hundreds just within Mainland Bloc Number 0523 of District 1. Over the years, Yanjing has vigorously encouraged childbirth and provided unbelievably favorable policies for it, leading to population growth. However, the tiered battleground is too vast, with over ninety percent of the area still rarely visited. Although many immigrant towns have been established, each town has only about a thousand or so people.

Nonetheless, the facilities are quite complete — schools, hospitals, government offices, and it’s worth mentioning that eighty percent of the teachers, doctors, and public officials are funded by Yanjing.

In a way, having a leader like Lin Haifeng is indeed a blessing for the world.

...

This section of road took about ten minutes, primarily because Wen Yu needed to accommodate the pace of the Level 2 early-stage real estate agent beside him. But the residential area itself wasn’t large, and in no time they arrived at Maple Leaf Residential Area Block 8.

On the third floor, the agent took out the key and opened the door to room 301. Wen Yu glanced inside and found the agent to be quite honest. The lighting in the room was indeed good, and all the furniture and appliances were there. Except for a very thin layer of dust on the floor, everything else left Wen Yu quite satisfied.

”Alright, I’ll take it. How much?”

Wen Yu said, and the real estate agent immediately smiled.

”This house only requires 1 Level 4 magic crystal, I have the contract with me.”

The real estate agent immediately pulled out the contract, and Wen Yu momentarily hesitated upon hearing one Level 4 magic crystal, then quickly understood.

With such a low population to land ratio, housing prices being as cheap as onions is not surprising...

...

The signing process doesn’t warrant further elaboration. Once Wen Yu paid and signed the contract, the ownership of the house changed. The real estate agent left with a smile, knowing he could earn a one percent commission from one Level 4 magic crystal. It seemed he might add meat to his dinner tonight. After Wen Yu watched him leave, he snapped his fingers slightly. With a flow of air current, a gentle swirl of wind rose inside, whisking the dust out through the window.

Clean-up complete, Wen Yu then took stock of his new home.

The layout was a standard three-bedroom, one-living room, with a study, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a large living room. While not a mansion, it was more than enough for one person.

After a brief tour, Wen Yu couldn’t help but stretch, as the sunset glow gently spilled through the window, bringing a touch of warmth.

”Small hermitage in the wild, great hermitage in the world...”

Alright, there weren’t really such elaborate considerations; Wen Yu just didn’t want to be constantly surrounded by plants and animals and didn’t want to grow vegetables or raise pigs to handle his food needs, so he chose a random small town to settle as his hideaway.

In strict terms, there’s essentially no difference, and after Wen Yu altered his facial appearance, there was little risk of being recognized by others.

In fact, even if Wen Yu used his original look, in this town suitable for retirement, it was unlikely anyone would realize that he used to be the renowned Sequence Number 1. The Sequence Member-Ranking Battle was just too distant a matter for the people here... Everything was just for assurance.

Amidst the glow of the setting sun, Wen Yu walked straight into the study, comfortably seated himself on a chair. As Creation Energy flowed in his right hand, talismans appeared out of nowhere and quickly arranged themselves. In no time, the outline of an SSS-Class skill was complete.

But after finishing this, Wen Yu waved his hand, dispersing the skill, and once again repeated the action he just took — using the Soul Abiogenetic Creation Skill to create an Esoteric Level skill scroll. Wen Yu had a slight breakthrough, and a segment of a plain, peaceful reclusive life was enough to enable Wen Yu to reach the point where he could craft Esoteric Level skills by hand.

This hard-earned tranquility was also the best opportunity for Wen Yu to consolidate and even enhance his strength.
