Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 450: Chapter 59: Forming Alliances, Pulling People In! (Waiting 500 years for a good book to be greatly rewarded!)_1

Was this matter of Rebirth a point of leverage for both sides?

Yes, in Wen Yu’s eyes, this was their biggest shared secret—in fact, no secret was more significant than Rebirth! The kind of impact a reborner could have went without saying. For the Human Race’s most prominent enemies—the Dominator and the Demon Tribe—a reborner was likely a factor beyond their plans! Especially for the Dominator!

Under such circumstances, the fact that both Wen Yu and Tang Haofei were reboners had to be a secret strictly swallowed and kept by both of them!

And this was the basis for their cooperation!

「...」

”Well then, here’s to a successful collaboration!”

Tang Haofei extended his right hand.

”To a successful collaboration!”

Their two hands clasped. This was the union of two reboners, and it also represented the highest echelons of power in this world reaching a consensus!

「...」

As Tang Haofei was leaving, he tossed Wen Yu a communicator.

With this communicator, Wen Yu could directly contact Tang Haofei.

After seeing Tang Haofei off, Wen Yu sat in his chair, continuously mulling over their recent conversation. After a long moment, he let out a soft sigh....

The situation of the Human Race was more severe than he had imagined! Although Wen Yu had already suspected the Dominator’s ill intentions towards the Human Race, he never expected the Dominator to be so ruthless—turning the entire Earth into a pig farm! Worse yet, the Human Race currently had to rely on the professional system provided by the Dominator to resist the Demon Tribe. It was like drinking poison to quench thirst, yet they had no choice but to drink! From Tang Haofei’s words, Wen Yu could also infer other things. If the Dominator’s goal was the magic crystals in human minds, and the Demon Tribe’s goal was the origin of the Earth’s nucleus, then strictly speaking, there was no major conflict between the two. Both sides could completely cooperate to carve up Earth’s resources! Once this situation became a reality, humans, or rather Earth, would have no means to resist at all! Things had now developed beyond anyone’s control. The fate of humans depended entirely on the relationship between the Dominator and the Demon Tribe; this was the most despairing point.

Wen Yu managed to take a sip of his drink, suppressing the despair welling up inside him.

Regardless, the world was still turning, and he, Wen Yu, even if only for his own life, couldn’t possibly ignore the facts! The issue with the Dominator would be set aside for now; there was currently no way to resolve it anyway. The most important thing was the imminent demon plague!

With that thought, Wen Yu put down his cup and walked towards the door.

「...」

KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK...

A crisp knocking sounded, followed by a CREAK as the door opened. Yang Hong’s face peeked out from behind it.

”Quick, come in. Something’s come up.”

”Oh? What is it?”

Wen Yu raised an eyebrow and walked straight into Yang Hong’s room.

Yang Hong pointed to another person in the living room and said to Wen Yu with a wry smile, ”See for yourself.”

「...」

”So, you’re saying you want to team up with me?”

Wen Yu sighed, looking at the old man before him who wore a tattered Daoist robe and was picking his nose.

Although he did indeed have plans to establish an Independent organization, he hadn’t expected someone to show up on his doorstep before he even announced the news.

The Daoist priest nodded. ”That’s right. You’re recruiting, aren’t you?”

Seeing the old Daoist’s seemingly inquisitive yet utterly confident tone, Wen Yu replied affirmatively, ”Yes, why wouldn’t I?”

”Excellent! Then let this old Daoist help you out!”

This took Wen Yu by surprise. ”Help me with what?”

”Help you get the organization established as soon as possible, of course! Otherwise, with just a few stragglers, it wouldn’t be proper at all!” the Daoist priest replied with conviction.

But Wen Yu was thoroughly perplexed. It wasn’t that he was overly suspicious; it was just that this world was too treacherous!

”How do you know I’m establishing an organization? And how do you know about my relationship with Yang Hong?”

The Daoist priest gave an enigmatic grin. ”The secrets of heaven must not be revealed...”

「...」

After conversing with the old Daoist for a good while longer, Wen Yu finally learned the reason for his proactive visit—the military had already made its move!

In fact, as soon as the Sequence Member-Ranking Battle had concluded, the military had begun its recruitment drive. Given the military’s manpower and the terms they could offer, their speed in this endeavor naturally went without saying.

However, the old Daoist—Wang Fucai, a name Wen Yu had just learned—disliked the military recruiters’ tone, which was soft on the surface but hard underneath. He had immediately thought of the current strongest expert among the Independents: Wen Yu!

Moreover, the Daoist priest, being Sequence Number 13, had previously hidden his strength because he couldn’t stand the military’s various treaties and restrictions. Compared to joining the military, he desired a freer space and lifestyle.

Coupled with the old Daoist’s peculiar ability system, he had also indirectly deduced Wen Yu’s intention to form an Independent Alliance, which was why he had come directly to him.

After chatting about a few miscellaneous odds and ends, the old Daoist rose and took his leave, saying he would go recruit more experts for Wen Yu.

In this regard, Wen Yu was certainly open to all comers—after all, with Victor around, he could subtly probe these people’s thoughts, thereby avoiding any devious plots. Of course, more importantly, Wen Yu had already defined this organization as an Independent Mutual Aid Alliance. Independents joining the organization only needed to adhere to some simple terms set by Wen Yu; he wouldn’t concern himself with other matters!

He wasn’t recruiting underlings, so there was no need to worry about things like loyalty. Besides, demanding loyalty often meant compromising on the strength of those who joined. Wen Yu was very confident that he wasn’t the kind of ’protagonist’ whose mere presence would make others kowtow in submission!

Seeing the old Daoist walk towards the door, Wen Yu shot Yang Hong a meaningful look.

Yang Hong immediately understood. ”Wait, I’ll go with you.”

The Daoist priest gave Wen Yu an enigmatic look, then said to Yang Hong with conviction, ”No problem. I’ll let you see just how this old Daoist’s tongue can talk the dead back to life!”

「...」

After the two had left, Wen Yu exited Yang Hong’s room and walked down the corridor towards his own.

Along the way, several professionists in military uniforms were constantly moving in and out of the Sequence members’ rooms—these were the personnel Lin Haifeng had dispatched to woo the Sequence members.

Of course, how many they could actually win over was an unknown, but Wen Yu estimated that quite a few powerful experts would want to join the Earth Community. Everyone understood the principle that it was good to seek shade under a large tree!

On his way, Wen Yu pondered Wang Fucai’s words in greater detail. After a while, he still couldn’t discern the old Daoist’s true intentions. For now, he could only have Yang Hong keep an eye on him.

Yang Hong’s reliability was quite high. Strictly speaking, Yang Hong could be considered Wen Yu’s only true confidant at present.
