Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 431: Chapter 46 Can’t Help But Compete!_2

In the seat for Sequence Number 6, Akad, his face pale, stared up at Vincent for a long while before he barely managed to whisper, ”I’m sorry, Vincent... I... I didn’t know you were still alive...”

Vincent gave Akad a strange smile. ”You don’t have to apologize. Just die; that’s enough... No worries. If I can’t finish you today, there’s always tomorrow, and the days after... plenty of time...”

Akad lowered his head in mortification.

「...」

No sooner had the duel between Vincent and Akad ended than Sequence Number 10 was pulled into the Challenge Space again. The Challenger – Fang Bai!

What followed was a series of twinkling white lights signaling surrender after surrender and aggressive challenges, causing an enormous shuffle among the top ten in the sequence!

The first six places were naturally unchanged. Fang Bai occupied the seventh position, Michael was in eighth place, and a professionist named Joshua was in ninth. The tenth place was occupied by another powerful figure of the Earth Community!

And there were significant changes in the subsequent sequence rankings too!

Most of the military puppets who originally filled the spots had been beaten down. Those who survived were facing incessant challenges. Of course, all this didn’t concern Wen Yu much. His focus was solely on the challenge matches involving the top ten in the sequence.

He didn’t have to wait long; Fang Bai immediately issued a challenge to Akad!

「...」

The moment the two were transported into the Challenge Space, Fang Bai launched a direct attack on Akad.

The immense Demon God Phantom enveloped Fang Bai’s body, giving him an enormous boost to his physical abilities!

Power of the Demon (S-Class, Active Ability): Unleashable only by those tested in the crucible of blood and battle. When activated, your body receives the augmentation of the Demon God’s might, summoning a Demon God Phantom around your body. Your strength will be increased fivefold at the cost of intensified energy consumption!

Added to this were Fang Bai’s inherent Will of the Demon (S-Class, Active Ability) and Demonic Weapon (A-Class, Active Ability). For this brief moment, Fang Bai’s fighting prowess peaked!

From his space ring, Fang Bai drew out a massive twin crescent blades halberd, his body shining with dazzling white light.

Energy Source (S-Class, Active Ability): Upon activation, the Energy Source will replenish the host’s energy at lightning speed. It lasts for 30 minutes and has a cooldown of one hour.

Simple as this ability might be, it was rated S-Class because of the potent recovery effects it provided. It truly was a phenomenal skill!

Furthermore, Fang Bai’s Skill System itself was designed for explosive bursts. The Energy Source could further supplement Fang Bai’s combat duration—a testament to well-matched skills.

Fang Bai swung his enormous twin crescent blades halberd directly at Akad’s head. Akad, facing the horrifying attack, stood rooted to the ground, seemingly not having recovered from the shock of Vincent’s sudden reappearance.

The next moment, the twin crescent blades halberd cleaved Akad in two.

However, the battle was not over...

「...」

Wen Yu watched, surprised, at Akad, now split in half on the ground.

After suffering the fatal blow, Akad’s two halves instantly transformed into two lumps of viscous, blood-red liquid. These lumps rapidly moved away. Before Fang Bai could strike again, the two liquids merged in the distance, instantly reforming into Akad’s likeness.

Is this Akad’s so-called immortality?

As if hearing Wen Yu’s unspoken question, Tang Haofei, seated above, chuckled softly.

”Akad’s ability is intriguing. He only possesses a single skill.”

”River of Death (Esoteric Level, Active Ability): An ultimate skill, integrating all of one’s abilities, developed by Sequence Number 1 of the Blood Sea world at the peak of its power! Upon obtaining this skill, the host’s life form will be forcibly changed, embodying countless ’lives.’ The quantity of ’lives’ is equal to the number of life forms the host has killed, with no upper limit! When faced with a deadly attack, the host will expend one ’life’ to survive. Furthermore, the Souls of all life forms killed by the host will be devoured and forcibly transferred to the Nation of Death, where they become its citizens. The host can then physically manifest any citizen of the Nation of Death in the primary world. However, the citizens of the Nation of Death have no potential for growth. Note: This skill will occupy all of the host’s skill slots!”

”A very, very powerful ability. If Akad killed me, all my power would become part of his Nation of Death... This is a perfect way to turn slain foes into strength, an ability that makes him stronger the more he fights!”

”The only pity is...”

Before Tang Haofei could complete his sentence, Wen Yu scoffed.

”It’s a pity this ability is utterly unsuitable for the rules of this Sequence Member-Ranking Battle—no one truly dies here. Akad’s Nation of Death cannot be replenished. Moreover, the ’life’ ability of the River of Death probably isn’t considered part of Akad’s own power. On the stage, if he’s hit and loses a ’life,’ he truly loses that ’life.’ He’s really unlucky...”

Wen Yu’s mind worked fast. In a short time, he had figured out the limitations of this ability—while these shortcomings might not exist in the outside world, under these competition rules, Akad’s own deficiencies were infinitely magnified!

”What’s more, alas, his attack power is simply not enough.”

「...」

The situation was indeed as Wen Yu had surmised.

The battle between Akad and Fang Bai had devolved into an extremely fierce war of attrition.

Akad’s only offensive method was his Dual Guns. Their attack power was decent; if they hit Fang Bai, they could leave small bloody marks on his skin. He also occasionally split off some puppets from the Nation of Death from his body. Unfortunately, these puppets were too weak to trouble Fang Bai in the slightest; creating them also cost Akad a ’life’ for nothing!

From this, it was clear that Akad had never managed to kill any truly formidable experts!

Fang Bai, on the other hand, was more direct. Relying on his skill-augmented physique, he completely overwhelmed Akad, unleashing a barrage of attacks. However, no one could kill a Level 5 professionist hundreds of thousands of times! This wasn’t a matter of comparative strength; it was simply too tedious and time-consuming!

By now, Wen Yu finally understood the military’s strategy for dealing with Akad: wave after wave of powerful experts would challenge him. Each challenger would chip away at his vast store of ’lives’ until they were utterly depleted!

It was exactly what Fang Bai was doing in the arena right now.

After a few more glances, Wen Yu quickly lost interest in this battle...

These two won’t finish fighting anytime soon.

His gaze swept downwards. Flashes of white light constantly shot skyward, and the sequence rankings were frequently being updated. Before long, two more professionists appeared on a smaller platform below—Sequence Number 10 and a professionist wielding a long sword but incongruously dressed in a tight-fitting white lab coat.

「...」

Lan Bo felt utterly helpless. When he was forcibly transported just now, the preparation time given by the Dominator was far too short. Lan Bo had barely managed to snatch Wei Tian’s white lab coat and had just slung it over his shoulders when the Dominator’s teleportation occurred.

Seeing the mocking eyes of the professionist before him, Lan Bo felt his face flush with embarrassment...

”Are you going to fight?” the opponent asked.

”Forget it... I didn’t expect even you to be here, so I’ll just forfeit. But your outfit, it really is...”

”Wait a minute, let me borrow your pants,” Lan Bo interjected.

Sequence Number 10 rolled their eyes at Lan Bo and simply yelled out, ”I forfeit!” Then Lan Bo, wearing the ill-fitting lab coat and exposing his hairy thighs, appeared in Sequence Number 10’s spot, thoroughly embarrassed.

Before Lan Bo could compose himself, he was pulled back into the Challenge Space.

「...」

Although the Sequence Member-Ranking Battle hadn’t been underway for long, by now, even the powerful experts in the top ten were being unavoidably dragged into endless challenges.

Lan Bo’s opponent was an unfamiliar independent hero.

There was nothing special about the battle; Lan Bo himself possessed overwhelming power. However, Wen Yu’s attention was caught by the enormous White Tiger phantom surrounding Lan Bo. He glanced at Tang Haofei with a smirk.

”You guys are really something; you don’t even leave the dead alone.”

Tang Haofei just shrugged and said nothing more.

In a short amount of time, Lan Bo’s battle was over.

After all, Lan Bo’s skill set was identical to Kuangliu’s. This combination was even stronger than Fang Bai’s! According to my calculations, this powerful soldier from the military, Lan Bo, should be able to reach the top five in the sequence rankings at least...

Unfortunately, in the next second, Wen Yu was about to learn the meaning of ”there’s always someone better”!
