Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 405: Chapter 32: The Power of the Night Daemon Smilodon_2

”Commander, your instructions, please.”

”Hm, you’re not busy now, Xiao Xue...”

The voice on the other side paused briefly before continuing, ”It’s not that busy now...”

”Come home for a meal in a couple of days.”

”Why?”

”Your brother and Fang Bai will be back soon.”

There was a long silence on the other end of the communicator before Xiao Xue replied.

”Okay, Dad.”

After ending the call, Lin Haifeng sighed. He then glanced around, picked up the plan on the table, and began to read it carefully.

Busy work can heal pain—even if no one knows whether Lin Haifeng is in pain or not right now.

But how could the sorrow of an elder burying a younger member of the family be as easily borne as Lin Haifeng made it seem?

Indeed, traditional Cathayan education often addresses the conflict between devotion to the ’greater collective’ and the ’smaller family unit.’ Yet, when faced with the choice between them, who can definitively say which should take precedence?

For Lin Haifeng, at least right now, the weight of the ’greater collective’ was undoubtedly far more profound.

It’s true that with great power comes great responsibility. However, after paying such a huge price for that responsibility, whether one should continue to uphold that duty is a difficult question to debate.

As for what Lin Haifeng was thinking right now...

Probably only Lin Haifeng himself understood.

...

Wen Yu flew farther and farther until Sequence Number 1 was out of sight. Only then did he let out a long sigh of relief.

Landing gently, Wen Yu deactivated his combat state, then activated his 2nd Soul Realm and summoned Cyclops back.

Cyclops was covered in wounds, riddled with bullet holes and marks from explosions. However, compared to the damage Cyclops had inflicted on Claire, these injuries were minor.

This clearly showed that the power gap between Sequences was widening rapidly—Sequence Number 5 couldn’t even defeat Wen Yu’s weakest soul pet!

But that pressure from Sequence Number 1 just now...

”Do you have a sense of how strong Sequence Number 1 is?”

As soon as Wen Yu finished speaking, the voice of Night Daemon Smilodon resounded from the nearby space.

”That person is a human of the divine beast type, possessing at least three skills at the Netherworld level... His strength was too formidable; I didn’t dare approach.”

”PHEW.”

Wen Yu forcefully exhaled, trying to ease the oppressive feeling in his chest.

A humanoid divine beast, three Esoteric Level skills—this information brought Wen Yu immense pressure!

Most importantly, as far as Wen Yu could tell, Sequence Number 1 was on Lin Haifeng’s side for now.

He definitely wasn’t a friend, but whether he was an enemy... that remained to be seen.

And the method used to detect Sequence Number 1’s power was, naturally, one of Night Daemon Smilodon’s skills.

...

Night Eyes (S-Class, Passive ability): After being remodeled by an unknown power and infused with the mysterious power of moonlight, the eyes evolved, gaining Night Eyes. This ability allows the user to detect a target’s Power Level and skill levels. Under moonlight, Night Eyes also grant powerful hypnosis, illusion, and dreamscape creation abilities.

Note: The power of Night Eyes increases as the host’s level upgrades!

This was Night Daemon Smilodon’s skill. While Wen Yu confronted Sequence Number 1, Night Daemon Smilodon had also activated another ability.

Double Body (S-Class, Active Ability): This skill is a subsidiary ability of Netherworld but requires a separate skill slot. Upon activation, a carbon copy equivalent to the original body appears. However, the carbon copy and the original body cannot exist in the same space simultaneously. The carbon copy possesses all the original body’s abilities except for those of SSS-Class and above, and its physical constitution is permanently fixed at 100 points. Furthermore, if the carbon copy is injured, the original body remains unharmed. But if the original body is injured, the carbon copy sustains identical damage. The carbon copy cannot be too far from the original body; the exact distance depends on the original body’s strength.

It was thanks to this ability that Night Daemon Smilodon could rest and recuperate in the Soul Realm space while observing Sequence Number 1 in the real world.

...

Wen Yu slowly strolled towards the Red Stone Hotel, continuing to check Night Daemon Smilodon’s other skills.

Netherworld (Esoteric Level), Night Eyes (S-Class), Double Body (S-Class), and the Dream Shaping ability it initially shared with Anna.

However, Night Daemon Smilodon’s Dream Shaping ability was different from Anna’s—strictly speaking, Anna’s Dream Shaping ability was merely a flawed version.

Dream Shaping (SSS-Class, Active Ability): Allows the user to dive into a target’s dreamscape, construct new dreamscapes for them, and subtly implant spiritual imprints.

Although their skill descriptions are similar, the difference in level means their actual power varies greatly.

Anna’s Dream Ability creates mere illusions; if one is prepared, they can easily distinguish them from reality. However, the dreamscapes created by Night Daemon Smilodon’s Dream Shaping Ability can make it impossible for those affected to tell the difference between dream and reality.

Combined with the hypnotic capabilities of Night Eyes, the terrifying potential of Night Daemon Smilodon’s Dream Shaping Ability is truly imaginable.

Such a pity... The Dream Shaping ability’s level is too high, so Double Body can’t supplement it. Otherwise, Wen Yu could even devise many ways to utilize Double Body.

And Night Daemon Smilodon’s final ability, now at Early Stage Level 5, is a perfect Concealment-type ability!

This was also the fundamental reason why Wen Yu and Star had completely failed to sense Night Daemon Smilodon’s presence.
