Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 403: Chapter 31: Are you comfortable? Then, let’s talk about important matters. (Additional update for 200 monthly tickets)_1

Upon hearing Sequence Number 1’s words, Wen Yu slowly furrowed his brows.

To say he felt at ease would certainly be a lie. Anyone nearly killed by a conspiracy wouldn’t feel at ease. Even if he had killed a few people, it wouldn’t make his world all sunshine and rainbows.

What’s more, even Kuangliu and Claire were merely pawns...

The real players were in Yanjing and Washington!

And Wen Yu, due to the promise he had made to the Night Daemon Smilodon, couldn’t cause trouble for them anytime soon!

”I wouldn’t exactly say I’m at ease, but what is the ’important matter’ you mentioned?”

Sequence Number 1, rummaging through his space ring, said, ”That’s a question you have to take up with the person in charge.”

After saying this, Sequence Number 1 took out an impressively futuristic tablet from his space ring, tapped it a couple of times, and then an image appeared on the screen—Lin Haifeng, the supreme leader of the Earth Community.

On the screen, Lin Haifeng first inspected the two corpses on the ground. The corner of his eye twitched slightly, a clear sign he wasn’t calm. Then, Lin Haifeng gently took a sip of tea, composed himself somewhat, and turned to Wen Yu, saying, ”Nice to see you again, Wen Yu. I wonder, will the lives of my son and the strongest of the American military be enough to ease your anger a bit?”

Wen Yu remained silent for a while, then suddenly burst out laughing.

The laughter grew louder and more intense, until tears almost streamed from Wen Yu’s eyes. Only then did the laughter slowly subside. However, anyone could hear the biting sarcasm in his laughter.

After a moment, Wen Yu calmed down. He looked at Lin Haifeng on the screen and said softly, ”What’s this? Your way of settling things with me? Honestly, I genuinely feel it wasn’t worth it for Kuangliu. It’s always the son who screws over the father; I never expected to witness a drama where the father screws over the son.”

Lin Haifeng remained expressionless, simply replying calmly, ”Yes, their lives are part of my explanation to you.”

...

When Lin Haifeng said this, the final piece of the conspiracy puzzle was revealed.

In actuality, Kuangliu and Claire played minor roles in this conspiracy. Claire could at least serve a supervisory role, but Kuangliu? What was he doing staying in Las Vegas?

Was he supposed to collect the Night Daemon Smilodon after the plan succeeded? Anyone could do that job.

When Wen Yu was under control, withdrawing was actually the smartest choice for Kuangliu and Claire. However, for some reason, the two didn’t leave...

This puzzled Wen Yu. If Kuangliu and Claire had fled to Washington, or even some unknown place abroad, how could he find them?

Lin Haifeng on the screen looked at Wen Yu, who was floating in mid-air, and continued in a calm voice, ”Actually, this plan was initiated by me. Its original purpose was to control you and use your combat power for myself.”

”However, this plan was not guaranteed to be one hundred percent successful. In fact, no conspiracy can ever guarantee a one hundred percent success rate.”

”In my estimation, this plan had an over eighty percent chance of success. That figure was enough for me to take a bit of a risk.”

Wen Yu snorted coldly, then pointed to Kuangliu and Claire on the ground.

”This risk, in your eyes, is merely ’a bit’?”

Lin Haifeng nodded decisively. ”Putting aside my blood relation with Kuangliu, this is a risk I can bear.”

Wen Yu was momentarily speechless.

...

”I understand your anger is immense, and you probably want to kill me. But you also know you can’t kill me, because I will not leave the Yanjing Assembly Site.”

Wen Yu snorted heavily.

He was well aware of the Yanjing Assembly Site’s strength. Coupled with the fact that Sequence Number 1, for some unknown reason, was now allied with Lin Haifeng, Lin Haifeng had become exceedingly difficult to kill.

Lin Haifeng continued, ”I understand why you’re so resentful. After all, we were the ones who used schemes to plot against you first. I admit this.”

”However, we can look at this matter from a different perspective.”

”For instance, instead of seeing this as a conspiracy to frame you, what if we consider it a gamble?”

...

”We two, as parties to this gamble, both wagered on this round. Your chip was your own freedom. My chips were the lives of Sequence Number 3 and Sequence Number 5, as well as some other minor things. Fair, isn’t it?”

”BULLSHIT!!!”

Wen Yu spat out the word forcefully.

From an outsider’s perspective, if this could be considered a gamble, then the stakes on both sides did indeed seem fair.

However!

In Wen Yu’s own mind, his life was priceless!

Wen Yu said nothing, merely staring coldly at Lin Haifeng.

Lin Haifeng continued, ”I know what you’re thinking. You believe this gamble isn’t fair from your perspective, perhaps because the odds of winning weren’t equal. But you can’t deny that I also paid a hefty price. So...”

Lin Haifeng finished speaking and gestured to Sequence Number 1 beside him.

Sequence Number 1 directly took out a space ring and tossed it to Wen Yu.

Wen Yu looked down.

It was merely the lowest grade, an F-Class space ring. There wasn’t much inside, just a single scroll.

Skill Upgrade Scroll (SS-Class item): Upon use, can upgrade an S-class skill to SS-Class!

A valuable and handy item indeed.

Then, Lin Haifeng smiled at Wen Yu and said, ”This, plus the lives of my son and Claire, is my explanation to you. What do you think?”

...

Wen Yu looked around. Kuangliu’s severed head lay with its eyes wide open, a look of lingering panic and confusion frozen on his face.

As for Claire, she had long since been turned into minced meat, a heap on the ground, her features indistinguishable.

Adding the skill upgrade scroll in his hand to the equation...

Wen Yu pondered for a long time. He then slowly lifted his head, gave Lin Haifeng a deep look, and turned to leave.

Staying here would be completely meaningless. And just as Lin Haifeng had said, as long as Lin Haifeng remained in Yanjing and didn’t come out, he had no good way to deal with him.

As far as he knew, apart from Kuangliu, the military still had three other War Gods. This meant Cathay’s military possessed three more individuals on par with Kuangliu’s strength. Adding to that Sequence Number 1, who was now with Lin Haifeng for some reason, and all the trump cards Lin Haifeng held in Yanjing...

Wen Yu, though furious, was no fool. He wasn’t about to blindly charge back to Cathay to try and stab Lin Haifeng, knowing the probability of success was slim.

Attempting such a thing, rather than resulting in Lin Haifeng’s death, would more likely lead to his own defeat in Yanjing.

So, this matter was considered closed... at least for now.
