Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 409: Chapter 34 My Army_2

Well, talk about a reversal of fortunes—this was it.

Yang Hong used to hold a higher status than Claus, but now, with everyone’s memories restored, Claus had become the new king of Las Vegas... and he was unmatched.

After all, how could a newcomer, no matter how strong, compare to comrades and leaders with whom they had struggled together?

Of course, Victor was also considered a king of Las Vegas—in the realm of mutant beasts.

But currently, there weren’t many mutant beasts in Las Vegas, for some unknown reason.

”Ah, forget it.”

Hearing Wen Yu’s words, Yang Hong worked his jaw, a gloomy expression on his face.

...

Chatting casually with Yang Hong, it didn’t take long before the door was pushed open again. Victor, with a swaggering catwalk, scampered into Wen Yu’s arms. Then, with a push of his leg, he jumped onto Wen Yu’s shoulder, standing side by side with the small Soul Beast.

Strictly speaking, Victor’s carbon copy was pretty much the same as the original. However, he was currently severely injured. His physical body was fine, but his mental state wasn’t great; his eyes were somewhat dim.

Wen Yu gently took Victor down from his shoulder and gently stroked Victor’s fur.

Victor lightly meowed and then squinted his eyes comfortably.

Then, Wen Yu turned his gaze to Claus.

”What’s up?”

Claus offered Yang Hong a friendly smile, then straightened up and said to Wen Yu, ”Victor told me you plan to stay and help us resist the demon plague?”

Wen Yu nodded.

”Then, I want to discuss specific countermeasures with you.”

...

It was late at night, and the sky was already beginning to lighten. In Wen Yu’s room, neither Claus nor Yang Hong showed any signs of sleepiness; they would occasionally burst into loud arguments. Red lines crisscrossed the map hanging on the wall.

Meanwhile, Wen Yu observed the map of Las Vegas, studying the defensive lines proposed by Yang Hong and Claus.

There wasn’t much difference in their opinions. They both agreed that the Red Stone Hotel should serve as the central hub for a defensive perimeter. However, they disagreed on the scope of this arrangement.

Yang Hong tried to expand the range to preserve a large amount of land and buildings—which was what Victor also wanted.

This was largely due to personal sentiment—both Yang Hong and Victor cherished memories of the city’s former appearance...

Claus’s opinion differed from Yang Hong’s and Victor’s. Claus believed it was sufficient to create a defensive perimeter large enough to accommodate the survivors, and then continuously reinforce it. His primary goal was to save as many survivors as possible. This was the first time Claus’s opinion had differed from Victor’s.

Setting aside all else, Claus was more suited to be a leader—he didn’t let emotions cloud his judgment too much.

After a while, Wen Yu finally spoke.

”Use Claus’s plan. There’s one thing I didn’t tell you. When the demon plague arrives, the top ten experts in the Sequence will be specifically targeted for assassination by the Demon Tribe. I don’t know how strong their Hunting Group is, but they are definitely stronger than me, not weaker...”

Hearing Wen Yu’s words, Claus’s face darkened somewhat.

”Stronger than you, not weaker... If you lose, Las Vegas is finished...”

Wen Yu sighed and said, ”Yeah, that’s why I will try to fight as far away as possible so the fallout from my battle doesn’t affect Las Vegas. I’ll leave Victor here, but I want to make one thing clear: if the worst happens, I will use the power of the Soul Realm to pull Victor to me. While I’m dealing with the Hunting Group, you must hold off the demon plague.”

”My personal opinion is to shrink the defensive perimeter as much as possible, continuously reinforce it, focus on defense, and buy time until my return. We definitely can’t win in a direct confrontation. But if we can’t even hold our defenses, then there’s no hope left!”

Claus nodded, then took out a red pen and redrew his proposed defensive perimeter, making it much smaller!

...

Once the plan was established, Claus and Yang Hong didn’t even have time to sleep. They immediately began to organize manpower, set up defenses, build city walls, and mobilize all professionists within Las Vegas.

「The date was November 5th, 2017. Only twenty days remained until the Demon Realm’s Gate opened!」

As for Victor, he claimed he was going to rally his old subordinates and then vanished in the blink of an eye.

In the brief time they’d interacted, Wen Yu had figured out Victor’s personality—this cat was incredibly proud and couldn’t stand being idle, unlike Cyclops and Star, who were always clinging to Wen Yu.

Wen Yu found Victor’s attitude, perhaps typical feline nature, rather refreshing. Usually, Cyclops would lie on top of Wen Yu’s head and Star would curl up in his arms, with the small Soul Beast perched on his shoulder.

Wen Yu couldn’t quite imagine what kind of spectacle he would make if Victor, too, had to claim some ’high ground’ when they were out together.

After a short nap of less than three hours, Wen Yu was awakened by a commotion outside.

After freshening up, he drew back the curtain to look down.

Outside, countless mutant beasts were pouring towards Las Vegas, led by a Big Lion.

The Big Lion stood over ten meters tall. Whirlwinds of sand and dust spun around its body, creating small but powerful vortexes.

Perched atop the Big Lion’s head was Victor, head held high, looking utterly self-satisfied.

Perhaps noticing Wen Yu watching from his window, Victor waved a paw, his smug expression seeming to say,

”See that? That’s my army!”

In the distance, dust billowed as seemingly endless mutant creatures converged on Las Vegas from all directions.

These mutant creatures would be the main force resisting the demon plague!

...

Las Vegas was a city in the desert.

During the latter stages of the resistance against Bart, after Claus and Victor were captured, all the humans hiding in the dark recesses underground were rounded up. Then, their memories were wiped and replaced.

As a result, vast numbers of mutant beasts had fled the city, scattering into the wilderness surrounding Las Vegas.

Now that Las Vegas was finally getting back on track, and facing the impending demon plague, Victor naturally had to recall his old forces—and gather some more powerful mutant beasts in the process.

Powerful mutant beasts, of course, had their own subordinates and territories. In just a few hours, the reinforcements Victor had summoned reached their current staggering scale.

Under the will of Victor and Claus, humans and mutant beasts avoided conflict. Instead, both sides worked together to build the last bastion on this land.

Amidst the hustle and bustle, Wen Yu also scouted the area and chose his final battleground against the Demon Hunting Group: Red Stone Grand Canyon.

It was desolate and uninhabited, located a suitable distance—not too far, yet not too close—from the defensive perimeter Claus and the others were establishing.

These two points were sufficient.

「Next came a long wait...」

...

Wen Yu had assumed that nothing major would happen before the demon plague.

However, he underestimated the military’s capability to stir up trouble.

「November 10th, 2017. Fifteen days remained before the outbreak of the demon plague.」

Wen Yu was strolling through the streets of Las Vegas with Yang Hong, Claus, and his three soul pets.

Busy pedestrians and colossal mutant beasts were constantly transporting massive stones to the outside of the defensive perimeter. There, professionists and mutant beasts with earth-elemental or reinforcement abilities used their skills to fortify and reconstruct the outer walls.

The construction was unsightly; compared to the walls of the Yanjing Assembly Site he had seen, it was downright crude. However, achieving this scale in such a short time was already quite impressive.

Just as they were leisurely strolling, a notification tone sounded in Wen Yu’s mind.

”DING. Sequence Number 1 is attempting to initiate the first Sequence Member-Ranking Battle. This battle will redetermine the sequence rankings but requires a vote by the top ten professionists in the Sequence.”

”Host, please choose whether to support its initiation.”

Hearing the notification in his mind, Wen Yu was momentarily stunned.

However, before Wen Yu could react, another notification sounded.

”Voting has concluded. The professionists who voted to initiate the Sequence Member-Ranking Battle are Sequence Number 1, Sequence Number 4, Sequence Number 6, Sequence Number 7, Sequence Number 8, Sequence Number 9, and Sequence Number 10. With more than half voting in favor, the Sequence Member-Ranking Battle will commence in three hours. At that time, all professionists at Level 4 and above may enter the Sequence Member-Ranking Battle via the Exchange Stone Pillar to contend for sequence privileges!”
