Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 422: Chapter 41: Official Start_2

After a while, a sudden ripple appeared beside Wen Yu, and Victor’s slightly weary figure materialized next to him.

”Take a look at this contract. See if there are any Illusion Traps or similar tricks in it!”

In this world, eyes alone could no longer be relied upon to discern truth from falsehood. However, when it came to things like illusions, Victor was an expert; hardly any illusion could deceive his eyes.

Victor stepped onto the contract, his Night Eyes ability pushed to its limit. After a moment, he gently shook his head.

”There’s no problem.”

Victor was then summoned back into the Soul Realm space to continue recuperating. Wen Yu handed the contract back to Lin Haifeng, nodding gently to indicate his agreement.

Lin Haifeng, however, had been staring intently at Victor from the moment he appeared. Only when Victor vanished did Lin Haifeng withdraw his gaze, slightly disappointed. He then extended his right hand to Wen Yu. ”Then, here’s to a pleasant cooperation! I hope this cooperation marks the beginning of a renewed good relationship between the military and you!”

Wen Yu nodded, his expression unchanged.

The wording of the terms was concise, but fewer words meant fewer potential loopholes.

The contract clearly stated that in the event of an unforeseen incident, as long as Wen Yu returned Rebirth to Lin Haifeng, it would not be considered a breach. Simultaneously, Wen Yu was not to use the skill scroll before the plan was completed.

It also stipulated that Tang Haofei must not monopolize Sequence Number 10. Additionally, the military was forbidden from using any means to prevent Wen Yu and Kasu from reclaiming the titles of Sequence Number 2 and Sequence Number 3.

Furthermore, it specified the penalties the military would pay in case of a breach—the penalties listed were substantial, but essentially useless.

Since the contract itself posed no issues, and it came with an S-Class skill scroll, Wen Yu had no real excuse to refuse.

It’s just a matter of game-fixing, and I can get an extremely high-quality SS-Class skill out of it for free. Wen Yu felt the risk-to-reward ratio was worth a try.

Seeing that both Wen Yu and Kasu had agreed to the contract’s terms, Lin Haifeng nodded in satisfaction. He returned to the podium and delivered his final remarks.

”Tomorrow, the Sequence Member-Ranking Battle will officially begin. You’ve all heard our plan. So, I want to ask a favor from all of you. Please accommodate those of us who are challenging the Sequences. Let’s work together to make this happen. Then, let’s team up and deal those Demon Bastards a severe blow!”

”Finally, thank you all for attending this meeting.”

After his closing remarks, Lin Haifeng stepped down from the podium and exited the conference hall through the back.

With that, the meeting was officially over.

On the way back, Wen Yu copied the contract’s contents from memory, and together with Yang Hong, they meticulously dissected every single word.

Unfortunately, they found nothing peculiar. It was just a standard contract; all clauses were straightforward, concealing no traps.

After confirming with Yang Hong that there were no issues with the contract, they discussed their own plans...

Undoubtedly, the two of them now held no great expectations for the plan.

Seeing it was getting late, Wen Yu and Yang Hong had dinner. Afterward, Wen Yu lay in bed, replaying the day’s events in his mind...

After a while, Wen Yu suddenly sat bolt upright, carefully mulling over Lin Haifeng’s so-called ”Counter-Hunting Plan.” An idea suddenly sparked in his mind...

He meticulously re-examined his thoughts, then heaved a long sigh.

If my thoughts are correct, then Lin Haifeng is truly audacious. His fundamental goal isn’t some Sequence title at all. This crappy ”Counter-Hunting Plan” is just a smokescreen! Lin Haifeng’s real aim is...

Thinking this, Wen Yu immediately left his room and went to Yang Hong’s.

”I need you to find out something for me.”

The sky within the Sequence Member-Ranking Battle’s treasure land was always white, lit by a light source of unknown origin, making the entire realm as bright as day.

After waking up, Wen Yu followed his morning routine: he checked on Cyclops and Star’s rooms, glanced at Victor, then quickly washed up. He instructed his little secretary puppet to prepare breakfast and then waited quietly.

A while later, a knock came at the door.

The maid-puppet opened it, and Yang Hong hurried in, faint dark circles visible under his eyes.

”Let’s eat together. We can discuss things at leisure,” Wen Yu invited.

Yang Hong nodded and sat across the dining table. While stuffing food into his mouth, he said to Wen Yu, ”Regarding what you asked me to investigate, I have some findings. For some unknown reason, by yesterday, almost everyone outside knew about the Counter-Hunting Plan. They also understand that the Sequence titles had, in fact, already been internally decided by the military.”

”Yesterday, the military dispatched more personnel to recruit those Professionists who had passed the qualification battle. It seems your theory was correct. Lin Haifeng’s public announcement of the Counter-Hunting Plan yesterday served to demonstrate the military’s strength. Now, many people outside have agreed to join the Earth Community.”

Hearing Yang Hong’s words, Wen Yu slowly shook his head.

”If my conjecture is correct, that’s just a side effect. Lin Haifeng’s true objective isn’t about recruiting powerful experts.”

Wen Yu stopped there, not elaborating further.

After all, it was merely a conjecture.

Soon after Yang Hong left, Wen Yu sat quietly in his room for a long while before getting up. He walked out and went to Tang Haofei’s room next door, knocking firmly.

A moment later, Wen Yu emerged from Tang Haofei’s room, pondering, his mind constantly running calculations as he quickly organized his Skill System and checked all his equipment and items.

If my guess is correct, today will be a fierce battle for every Sequence member!

Time flew by. A few hours later, a prompt sounded in his mind: ”Sequence Member-Ranking Battle has officially begun!” Then, Wen Yu’s body was suddenly drawn into a transporting light. When Wen Yu next opened his eyes, he found himself in a giant, circular arena, with a full one hundred Sequence members arranged in a ring around it.

Wen Yu glanced around. The one hundred Sequence members stood in a spiral, tiered formation. The higher their Sequence ranking, the higher their position. Looking up, Wen Yu spotted Tang Haofei waving lightly from his upper right; Tang Haofei’s characteristic smug smile peeked out from behind his seat’s armrest.

This feeling of being one-upped... it’s truly irritating...

Of course, Wen Yu was just being a bit melodramatic; this sort of thing was unlikely to cause any significant emotional ripples for him.

Then, Wen Yu ignored Tang Haofei and looked downwards.

Not far to his lower left, Kasu clutched a Bible, muttering something unintelligible under his breath. Then there were Qin Min, Akad, Fang Bai...

From Wen Yu’s position, the view was unobstructed, allowing him to clearly see the vast arena below.

The entire arena was divided into ten smaller blocks. Each small arena was encased in a protective barrier that shimmered with white light, though this barrier did not obstruct vision.

After a brief survey, Wen Yu narrowed his eyes and quietly adjusted his condition, awaiting the imminent battle.

Strictly speaking, Lin Haifeng publicly announcing the Counter-Hunting Plan at the large meeting yesterday was a superfluous act.

Something like this could have been resolved simply by discussing it internally among the top ten Sequence members.

Therefore, last night, Wen Yu had specifically asked Yang Hong to gather information, and the results were as expected.

Lin Haifeng had trumpeted this plan far and wide. On one hand, this was to showcase the Earth Community’s power and recruit more powerful experts—after all, the capabilities of those who had managed to remain in the Sequence Member-Ranking Battle were certainly not to be underestimated.

On the other hand, Lin Haifeng had absolutely, deliberately made this matter known to everyone, intending to reap even greater benefits from it.

As for who provided these benefits...

At this thought, a peculiar smile touched the corners of Wen Yu’s mouth.

This Sequence Member-Ranking Battle is likely to hold many interesting events!
