Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 425: Chapter 43: The Success of the Plan and the Indifference_2

”Understood.”

A slightly chilly voice came from the communicator, and the order was relayed down the line until it reached the ear of a man completely covered in bandages.

Lin Haifeng was no gentleman; he would stop at nothing when dealing with his opponents. And this professionist named Vincent had been specially cultivated by the military as a ”specifically tailored Weapon” against Akad!

As for whether there was a ”Weapon” specifically tailored against Wen Yu... who knew?

The entire arena, whether it was the professionists outside or the Sequences within, fell silent. The whole skill competition arena was enveloped in an oppressive and strange atmosphere.

Amidst this strange atmosphere, a beam of white light flashed, and then Sequence Number 92 was replaced by a professionist completely covered in bandages!

Before Wen Yu could get a closer look, this professionist frantically surged forward. It didn’t take long for him to reach the position of Sequence Number 18, whereupon he challenged Sequence Number 10.

Two white beams of light transported them into the arena below. This time, Wen Yu carefully observed the bandaged professionist.

An oppressive aura of death emanated from him, and his terrifying presence was so potent it even made Wen Yu’s skin tingle slightly.

”How is that possible?!”

A voice tinged with fear came from beside Wen Yu, who looked down.

Akad was staring at the professionist below in horror. His face grew increasingly pale, his entire body trembled uncontrollably, and his forehead was beaded with cold sweat.

A thought struck Wen Yu. Judging by Akad’s reaction, he seemed to be very familiar with this professionist.

In the arena, Vincent stood opposite Sequence Number 10. He slowly lifted his head, his pure black eyes scanning all the Sequences above before locking onto Akad, a strange smile playing on his lips, like a predator eyeing its prey.

Turning his gaze to Sequence Number 10 opposite him, Vincent spoke, his voice hoarse, ”You know the plan, right? Surrender.”

Sequence Number 10 didn’t waste any time and responded immediately, ”I surrender.”

Then two white lights flashed, and Vincent and Sequence Number 11 were teleported back together.

But this time, something was different.

Sequence Number 10 still sat in the tenth position, and Vincent’s own rank hadn’t changed in the slightest...

Seeing this, Wen Yu narrowed his eyes.

Tang Haofei, who was positioned above them, muttered quietly, ”It’s starting.” He then immediately turned his head to look around.

The next moment, a white light flashed above the arena, followed by a terrifyingly vast Spiritual Fluctuation.

”I have to say, your race isn’t very strong, but you’re certainly full of tricks...”

The Spiritual Fluctuation was very calm, containing no anger or embarrassment from being schemed against.

Sensing this Spiritual Fluctuation, Lin Haifeng, who was outside the arena, felt a slight smile play on his lips.

For Lin Haifeng, whether the Dominator appeared or not, his goal would be achieved. In this round, no matter what methods the Dominator employed, Lin Haifeng was certain to win. Moreover, it now seemed the ’Sequence’ designation still held some use for the Dominator—as for how much use, that would depend on what the Dominator said next.

And the Dominator’s answer was just as Lin Haifeng had predicted...

As the white light slowly dissipated, the Dominator appeared above the arena, taking the form of an old man in a white robe with a kind face.

First, he expressionlessly scanned the current lineup of Sequences—his gaze filled with the sight of military uniform insignias. This undoubtedly displeased him.

Then, he cast his gaze outside the arena. Through the spatial barrier, his eyes met Lin Haifeng’s. After a long moment, a playful, mocking smile appeared on the Dominator’s face, and he shook his head with a sigh of resignation.

”Your little tricks are quite interesting. I must say, you played this round beautifully. I didn’t expect you’d even dare to scheme against me. You’re Lin Haifeng, correct?”

Lin Haifeng nodded lightly. Even from such a great distance, he believed the Dominator could see his gesture.

”You’ve won this round; I must acknowledge that,” the Dominator continued. ”In all the worlds I’ve experienced, some have seen me as a savior, others as the source of calamity. But this is the first time someone has seen me as an opponent. You are impressive.”

With an inscrutable smile on his face, the Dominator then transmitted a vast Spiritual Fluctuation into the minds of every professionist within the treasure land of the Sequence Member-Ranking Battle.

”It’s rare to encounter such an interesting little fellow like you. What’s more, this overt scheme of yours has pleased me greatly and allowed me to rediscover a long-lost enjoyment. Therefore, I shall grant your wish!”

Upon hearing this, faces of nearly everyone in the know filled with curiosity—everyone except Lin Haifeng.

When the Dominator finished speaking, the smile on Lin Haifeng’s face vanished instantly, replaced by an uncontainable gloom.

The Dominator glanced at Lin Haifeng with a smile and exclaimed admiringly, ”Truly brilliant! To see the essence of the matter at a glance. You are so interesting. This is truly... a long-lost feeling! I hope you manage to live a little longer!”

After speaking, ignoring Lin Haifeng’s expression, so gloomy it looked as if storm clouds were gathering on his face, the Dominator swiftly sent out his Spiritual Fluctuation.

”The Sequences are of great use to me. This relates to my war with the Demon Tribe, a war that has spanned countless worlds. To put it another way, the Sequences are the primary goal and objective of my advent in this world. To understand my purpose and thoughts, the most crucial thing is to enhance your strength and authority. And these authorities, I have vested them all within the titles of the Sequence! Are you satisfied with this explanation, Lin Haifeng?”

After this seemingly mocking rhetorical question to Lin Haifeng, the Dominator glanced around at everyone present and spoke his final words.

”In thirty minutes, the Sequence Member-Ranking Battle will recommence. The rules remain unchanged. However, I will be issuing some rewards—no, that’s not right, it should be many! Many! Rewards! At the same time, I will also reopen the gateways from the outside world into the Sequence Member-Ranking Battle.”

Once the Dominator finished speaking, he instantly transformed into a beam of white light and vanished.

”We succeeded, Commander Lin!”

The assistant beside Lin Haifeng, an irrepressible smile on his face, said excitedly.

Lin Haifeng remained silent for a long moment, then sighed softly, ”Yes, we succeeded...”

Perhaps sensing that something was off about Lin Haifeng’s expression, the assistant lowered his head and asked tentatively, ”Then, sir, why do you seem...”

Lin Haifeng shook his head, then turned to stare into his assistant’s eyes, his voice laced with an unprecedented seriousness, ”The Dominator... he said far too much! There was absolutely no need for him to appear at all. Can you understand his mentality? Utterly fearless, completely unconcerned. He observed my little plots and petty schemes as if watching a farce, without the slightest ripple of emotion in his heart!

”Furthermore, you don’t grasp the implication of him saying so much... He simply doesn’t care! Not at all! Even if he laid his objectives bare before us, the Dominator wouldn’t care in the slightest. Do you understand what that signifies?”

The assistant opened his mouth as if to speak, but then hesitated. Lin Haifeng’s shoulders slumped slightly as he continued in a calm tone, ”It’s like when you’re about to kill a chicken. You tie it up, walk over with a cleaver, and watch its struggles with playful, mocking amusement. Then, as a predator at the apex of the food chain, you tell it, ’You’re my dinner tonight.’ What the Dominator did just now... is essentially the same principle!

”He doesn’t care about our struggles and resistance, nor does he care about our desire to seek the truth. Because the Dominator believes that even if the truth were laid bare before us, we still couldn’t make any waves!”

”Commander...”

Hearing Lin Haifeng’s words and seeing his somewhat dejected expression, the assistant couldn’t help but call out his name, but he didn’t know what else to say.

After a long pause, Lin Haifeng slowly straightened his back, his entire bearing becoming like that of an unsheathed sword. He stared intently at the spot where the Dominator had been, an enigmatic smile touching the corners of his lips.

”However... that’s what makes it interesting!”
