Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 416: Chapter 37: Increasingly Difficult Plan_2

The air was filled with a somewhat noisy chatter as people constantly moved about, networking with those who remained—any professionist who had survived the challenge was worth befriending. The large Cathay flags hanging over the tents where these people were staying, however, seemed somewhat out of place.

Yang Hong sincerely praised, ”Your Cathay Commander-in-Chief really knows how to win hearts. A simple tent, and he’s bought so many people’s loyalty.”

Wen Yu remained silent. After quickly scanning their surroundings, he said, ”Let’s go.”

「...」

The rendezvous point was the largest building on the south side of Eternal Sky City.

Its original purpose could no longer be ascertained, but Lin Haifeng had repurposed it into a grand auditorium. The exterior looked as majestic as a state-owned conference hall, and its decoration and layout were no less exceptional than any large-scale assembly room in the real world. It seemed Old Lin had pulled quite a few strings.

Upon Wen Yu’s arrival at the auditorium’s entrance, the two professionists guarding it gave him a full military salute. For these low-ranking soldiers, Wen Yu held some prestige; after all, he had made a significant name for himself in the outpost treasure land. Moreover, Lin Haifeng had surely suppressed the truth about his framing of Wen Yu, as well as Wen Yu’s killing of Kuangliu! These ordinary soldiers were oblivious to the conflict between the two.

Wen Yu nodded at the two Cathay soldiers guarding the gate and stepped directly into the main conference hall.

「...」

When Wen Yu entered the auditorium, the slight buzz of conversation died down immediately. Hundreds of pairs of eyes stared at him, their expressions filled with a mixture of fear, suspicion, and curiosity that made Wen Yu feel as if he were stripped bare.

Wen Yu looked around the room, meeting the gazes directed at him. Whether they were high-ranking Sequencers or leaders from various national organizations, everyone averted their eyes. Sequence Number 2’s fearsome reputation was well-known: he had killed the original Sequence Number 3—the son of the Earth Community’s highest leader—and had even made Lin Haifeng reconcile with him. This news was hardly a secret in these circles.

He quickly glanced at the arrangement of the main venue: about ten rows of large chairs were laid out, each row with ten seats, the sequence numbers clearly marked above them.

Sequence Number 1 to Sequence Number 100 were all on the invited list.

The chairs at the back were reserved for national dignitaries or other organizations.

At this point, nearly all the chairs in the hall were occupied. The few empty ones were likely due to special circumstances—perhaps their occupants had been ejected by a puppet in yesterday’s challenge.

Wen Yu, accompanied by Yang Hong, walked directly towards the seats assigned to their sequences.

Yang Hong settled in the fourth row, while Wen Yu continued further in until he saw the flamboyant figure of Tang Haofei and took a seat next to him.

”You’re late. That’s a bad habit.”

Tang Haofei mumbled a bunch of irrelevant nonsense, which Wen Yu completely ignored, turning his attention in another direction.

Sequence Number 3, Kasu.

The man in person was far more handsome than the blurry image of Kasu Wen Yu had seen in an album.

He appeared to be around forty years old, dressed in a black priest’s gown. Coupled with his serene, deep gaze, he was undoubtedly a very charming, mature man.

Perhaps sensing someone scrutinizing him, Kasu gently closed the Bible in his hand and offered Wen Yu a friendly smile.

”Hello, I am Kasu.”

Wen Yu nodded and extended his right hand, ”I am Wen Yu.”

”I have heard much about you.”

His gentle smile and affable face would surely have made him a killer among ladies before the apocalypse.

Unfortunately, after this simple greeting, Kasu immediately flipped open his Bible and began to read it with great interest, as if infinite power were contained within its pages.

This stunned Wen Yu.

Meanwhile, Tang Haofei, who was beside them, chimed in, ”If you want to make small talk, come to me. You’ve picked the wrong person; this fellow doesn’t like to talk.”

Then, Tang Haofei added, ”He really doesn’t like to talk! I once traveled with him for three days, and he spoke to me a grand total of three sentences. That’s an average of one sentence per day: ’I’ve heard much about you,’ ’Thank you, no need,’ and ’Goodbye.’ Can you believe that?”

Wen Yu had no words in response.

「...」

Originally, Wen Yu and Yang Hong were half an hour late.

But now, an hour had passed since the scheduled time, and the meeting still hadn’t started!

Lin Haifeng was still nowhere to be seen.

As for the possibility that Lin Haifeng could have been ousted from the treasure land by a puppet, Wen Yu wouldn’t believe it even if it killed him.

As the person currently holding the highest global authority, it’s laughable to think he couldn’t even defeat a Peak Level 4 puppet.

Wen Yu looked around.

Most of the seats in the meeting room were already filled, except for one – the fifth seat in the first row, for Sequence Number 5, Akad.

He casually asked, ”Has the meeting still not started? Are we still waiting for someone?”

”Yes,” Tang Haofei replied. ”This meeting is for all Sequencers, to discuss some issues and resolve some disputes. The focus of today’s meeting is to resolve matters concerning the three of you—you, Kasu, and Akad. In fact, the dispute between the military and Akad is much, much larger than the dispute with you!”

Tang Haofei grumbled on for a bit, then added at the end, ”Akad will be here soon; the military has already sent someone to fetch him.”

”This Akad seems really influential,” Wen Yu muttered.

Hearing Wen Yu mutter to himself, Tang Haofei smoothly picked up the thread, ”Isn’t that the truth? That fellow’s abilities are terrifying. While his combat strength isn’t great, his self-preservation skills are practically flawless. Plus, he’s ruthless and merciless. You wouldn’t believe it, but not too long ago, he slaughtered hundreds of thousands of people in Britain! Sigh... he’s a madman! An anti-human, anti-social, nearly unkillable madman!”

When speaking of Akad, Tang Haofei’s expression turned a bit grim. Clearly, even he found Akad difficult to handle.

This piqued Wen Yu’s interest in Akad. Anyone who could give a humanoid divine beast like Tang Haofei a headache is by no means an easy opponent.

”I heard about that incident not too long ago,” Kasu interjected.

Upon hearing Tang Haofei discuss Akad, Kasu also showed interest. Unusually, he shifted his attention from his Bible to Wen Yu and Tang Haofei.

”Just as I was coming here, I happened to encounter Sequence Number 5. I could feel tormented spirits clinging to him; the negative emotions within his body are incredibly potent. The man himself seems like an embodiment of sin!”

Then, Kasu looked at Wen Yu and Tang Haofei and said with an extremely serious expression, ”A monster like that shouldn’t exist in this world... He needs to be purified!”

After he finished, Kasu immediately returned his attention to the Bible in his hand, ignoring Tang Haofei, who was struggling to suppress his laughter until his face turned red, and Wen Yu, whose expression grew increasingly dark.

The Independent Sequence Recruitment Plan—that was the name Wen Yu and Yang Hong had conceived for their team.

Among the top ten Sequencers, only Kasu, Akad, and I are Independents. But judging by these two, each is more idiosyncratic than the last. One is a devotee bordering on fanaticism; the other, a lawless madman. The conflict between them seems irreconcilable given the current situation. Then there’s me—I kill without batting an eye, but I still have some bottom lines. The compatibility between three powerful Independents like us is practically nonexistent...

Wen Yu already had a premonition of the difficulties he would face implementing his plan.

Another ten minutes passed. The heavy doors of the conference hall were thrust open, and a figure, nearly 1.9 meters tall yet extraordinarily thin, walked in.

He wore a blood-red windbreaker and a black dress hat. His narrow eyes flickered with a strange, fierce, cold light, and the pungent smell of blood instantly filled the entire conference hall.
