Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 407: Chapter 33 Idea_1

Watching the emotional outpouring between the man and the beast in front of him, Wen Yu felt a bit awkward.

From what he could tell, Claus and Night Daemon Smilodon—no, it should be with Victor,—shared deep feelings. Strictly speaking, I’m the third wheel.

So, Wen Yu wisely decided to excuse himself. ”You two go ahead and chat. I’m going back to my room.”

Claus nodded at Wen Yu, his demeanor no longer showing the subservient respect he had previously displayed.

”Thank you, Wen Yu.”

The real Claus was not only a competent leader but also a proud warrior.

Wen Yu nodded, turned around, and walked into the Red Stone Hotel.

...

As the cheers outside gradually faded, Wen Yu sat silently by the bed, first observing the recovery progress of Cyclops’s and the Night Daemon Smiloden’s injuries.

Cyclops’s wounds were never that deep, and with the healing effect of the Soul Realm space, most of them had already healed.

However, the Night Daemon Smilodon’s condition was still grim.

The spiritual confrontation between Earth’s Will and the Dominator had torn apart most of his soul. Even with the Soul Realm space’s healing ability, such extensive injuries would take time to fully heal.

Fortunately, such injuries didn’t require any Heavenly Materials and Earthly Treasures to accelerate healing. Moreover, even within the Soul Realm space, the Night Daemon Smilodon could still provide Wen Yu with significant assistance.

Seeing the Night Daemon Smilodon blink his eyes slightly in the Soul Realm space, Wen Yu pondered for a moment before asking, ”You haven’t told me yet, what does Earth’s Will want to discuss with me?”

Night Daemon Smilodon shook his head.

”I only created the Dreamland and built the bridge. I don’t know what you two would discuss. And now, the Dominator has detected Earth’s Will’s little trick; I don’t know when you will be able to communicate again.”

Wen Yu sighed deeply. His intuition told him that Earth’s Will had a lot to say, and it was very important. Judging by the Dominator’s reaction, these matters inevitably involved secrets of the Dominator and the Demon Realm. It was a shame the Dominator was not easy to fool.

Wen Yu said to Night Daemon Smilodon, ”Rest well,” then prepared to withdraw his consciousness from the Soul Realm space.

”Wait.” Night Daemon Smilodon gently stopped Wen Yu and then calmly spoke. ”From now on, please call me Victor. I like that name.”

...

Wen Yu calmly stood by the window, looking at the cheering crowd below and at Victor’s carbon copy in the crowd, playfully showing off from time to time. A slight smile lingered on his lips.

Since the beginning of the apocalypse, I can’t exactly evaluate my actions thus far, but one point is without doubt: even at the end of the world, light will still emerge.

Just like Sun Ruixing before, as well as William, and now, the cheering crowd below...Wen Yu remembered Victor’s request.

”Please, help me protect this city, my hometown. The people here, they are all my friends, my comrades, and my beautiful memories...”

This was Victor’s condition, as well as the price Wen Yu had to pay for making a contract with a divine beast.

But...

If they truly rely on each other and strive to survive together, then this condition isn’t too much.

While I myself may not be wonderful, that doesn’t prevent me from liking wonderful things—friendship, the bonds between comrades, every beautiful aspect of human nature...

Unfortunately, I offered my heart to the bright moon, but the moon chose to shine upon a lowly ditch.

Originally, Wen Yu had been cooperating well with the military, but now, everything was destroyed! It was all ruined by the military’s selfishness and conspiracy, and by my own consuming rage, completely destroyed!

Thinking of this, Wen Yu summoned Cyclops and Star from the Soul Realm space and put them on the bed. Then he entered a battle state, invoking the Netherworld.

In the main world, Wen Yu’s figure gradually faded until it disappeared. In the blink of an eye, he appeared in the Netherworld.

...

The Netherworld was always shrouded in a scene of hazy mist. Standing in the fog-enveloped Red Stone Hotel, Wen Yu slowly closed his eyes, sensing everything in the Netherworld.

After a while, Wen Yu opened his eyes.

”Found them.”

Then, Wen Yu used the Realm Lord’s ability and directly teleported to the target location.

There, Kuangliu and Claire stood woodenly, frozen in place.

...

Wen Yu gazed with a complex expression at Kuangliu, who had been transformed into a Netherworld Warrior. After a long pause, he softly said, ”Do you remember the first time we met? On the video call...”

However, the Netherworld Warrior Kuangliu showed no reaction or emotional fluctuation at all—he was just a puppet.

Wen Yu managed a bitter smile, remained silent for a while, then said lightly, ”Never mind, it’s useless to say more. You probably don’t understand anyway. I’m just getting sentimental.”

”Actually, the longer I interacted with you all, the more I learned. Just like this time, you all gave me a lot of inspiration and insight...”

”Thank you for reminding me that interests always come before emotions, that friendship is as flimsy as waste paper, and that people are unpredictable...”

”To be honest, the more I interact with you Humans, the more I like mutant beasts.”

After saying this, Wen Yu left the Netherworld directly.

He didn’t notice, however, that a complex emotion had surfaced in the eyes of the Netherworld Warrior Kuangliu...

A deep sigh resonated, seeming to pervade the entire Netherworld.

Lin Haifeng conspired against Wen Yu, with Kuangliu joining in, then Wen Yu killed Kuangliu...

Right and wrong intertwined. Who could clearly say who was right or wrong? Who could criticize the actions of either side?

However, with Kuangliu’s death, all of this had essentially vanished into thin air...

...

Wen Yu’s figure slowly materialized in the main world.

The Netherworld ability, though incredibly powerful from every perspective—as the creator of a world, however small, the power it granted him was far beyond anyone’s imagination—also had limitations.

For example, returning from the Netherworld to the real world required coordinates. Victor had used his and Anna’s ashes, an item Wen Yu now wore around his neck. Wen Yu, on the other hand, needed to rely on Cyclops, Star, or other items with a significant personal connection as his coordinates.

This means that hiding all my life and wealth in the Netherworld is an unrealistic move.If I go in and can’t come out, I’ll be trapped in the Netherworld! What’s the difference between that and death?Besides, there doesn’t seem to be any solution to this problem in the short term.

Thinking of this, Wen Yu decided to ponder this complex issue later.

Subsequently, Wen Yu thought about everything that had happened since he came to Las Vegas.

...

Why are there so many conspiracies in the world? Why, even knowing my temper and power, would the military dare to make such an assassination attempt against me?

I can’t understand Lin Haifeng’s intentions. Maybe he thinks I’m a threat, or maybe he simply covets my power. But I know I need some countermeasures!

What countermeasures...?

Establish a force of my own? So that when something like this happens, people will stand on my side, creating a deterrent to those who want to harm me?

No, no, no, Humans are the most untrustworthy, most fickle creatures; there’s no such thing as loyalty to speak of.

Then, use the power of a contract to secure loyalty?

Thinking of this, Wen Yu couldn’t help but laugh.

The weak might resort to this, but truly powerful experts, the kind I admire, would never submit to the power of a contract!

He thought for a long time without any ideas. Moreover, unless something unexpected happened, Wen Yu doubted he could come up with a good solution.

...

Just then, a knock came from outside the door.

”Come in,” Wen Yu said, interrupting his thoughts.

Outside the door, Yang Hong entered, carrying a large amount of food.

”You must be hungry. Eat something,” Yang Hong said to Wen Yu with a benevolent smile.

Wen Yu nodded.

Through the memory fragments Victor transmitted to me, I know Yang Hong is a trustworthy person.

Then, Wen Yu’s eyes brightened.

...

Sometimes, inspiration comes just that suddenly.

Wen Yu had just been thinking about how to deepen others’ trust and have more powerful experts stand by his side. Yang Hong’s appearance had undoubtedly brought him inspiration.

He ate while pondering these issues.

After a while, the meal was over. Wen Yu casually wiped his mouth and said to Yang Hong, ”I heard from Claus that you’re Sequence Number 36, right?”

”I used to be. Four of the Sequences ahead of me died, so now I’m Sequence Number 32.”

Wen Yu nodded in understanding.

Although the power of a Sequence is strong, no one can guarantee they’ll still be alive the next second. I can’t, and not even Sequence Number 1—a divine beast of the Human Race, endowed with three foundational abilities—can.

Then, Wen Yu continued to ask, ”So, hasn’t the American military tried to recruit you?”

”They did, but I refused. I don’t like the feeling of being constrained,” Yang Hong replied.

Wen Yu nodded in understanding.

No independently grown powerful expert enjoys being constrained. I, for example, particularly disliked joining the military—a sentiment that was true in the past and even more so now.

”They never tried any special measures against you?”

Hearing Wen Yu’s question, Yang Hong was silent for a moment, then nodded lightly.

”Before, I had three subordinates who were killed by the military. I also nearly died in that attack. But after that, they didn’t make any more moves. Maybe they focused all their energy on you and Victor instead.”

”Mm,” Wen Yu responded lightly, then said casually, ”I’m thinking of organizing a team—a team composed entirely of powerful experts who don’t want to be restrained. Normally, we wouldn’t interfere in each other’s affairs; we’d each do our own thing. But when a situation like this occurs, if one of us is in trouble, everyone else provides support. Even if we can’t provide support in time, we must make the military pay. This would be to prevent us Independents, those of us who exist outside the system, from being threatened and framed by the world’s militaries again. What do you think?”

Hearing Wen Yu’s words, Yang Hong’s eyes lit up.
