Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Under Hua Yun’s guidance, the two of them arrived at the bottom of the cliff where the fig tree was located.

Looking at the lushly growing fig tree, Chen Wen turned back towards the camp: ”How did you see it from such a distance? Especially in such darkness?”

Feeling a bit embarrassed, Hua Yun tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear and explained, ”My grandfather’s house had a garden with several fig trees. I used to pick figs frequently when I was a kid, so I’m quite familiar with them and recognized it almost immediately.”

”Wow, is this the power of a foodie?”

Chen Wen remarked with amazement.

Hua Yun gritted her teeth, wishing she could punch Chen Wen. She just knew he was going to say something like that.

After teasing Hua Yun, Chen Wen also started thinking about how to pick those figs.

The fig tree, despite being called a tree, is actually more like a shrub or a small tree.

The plant has many branches, making picking them not too difficult.

In fact, figs do have flowers, but they form a special inflorescence called an enclosed inflorescence where the flowers are hidden inside the fruit, and the part we usually eat is mainly the fig’s flowers.

Wild fig trees can only be pollinated by their symbiotic insect, the fig wasp.

Chen Wen and Hua Yun stood on opposite sides of the fig plant and began picking.

While picking, Chen Wen deliberately squeezed open a fig and tasted it carefully.

The taste was quite nice, slightly sweet with a hint of sourness, a very rich flavor.

After eating one, Chen Wen eagerly peeled open a second fig.

Unable to resist, Hua Yun also started peeling the fig skin and eating the flowers and flesh inside.

Delicious!

With her eyes squinting in delight, Hua Yun felt like she was back in her childhood.

As the two of them picked and ate, Adam and the others suddenly discovered that Chen Wen and Hua Yun were missing.

Looking perplexed, Adam spotted the two who were busy picking fruit.

The others also came over to help pick figs.

They didn’t pick too many, about two-thirds of the ripe figs, before stopping.

With the figs in tow, they returned to camp and began packing their belongings.

Chen Wen also gained a new trait about figs.

[Clears Heat and Reduces Fire (Purple): Activates the trait to lower body temperature, eliminate inflammation, and restore body balance. Suitable for treating real heat conditions like fever, throat swelling, etc. PS: Active trait, requires ten days of recovery time after each use. The effectiveness depends on the severity of the current condition—the more severe, the better the effect.]

[Note: For clearing heat and reducing fire, choose figs! — Fig]

Great trait!

This trait made Chen Wen quite satisfied. He really liked traits with medicinal effects now.

After all, the longer they survived, the more imbalanced their nutrition became.

In previous survival experiences, issues like excretion and inflammation became quite severe in later stages.

This trait could actively eliminate inflammation and even had the added effect of treating fever, which was quite good overall.

Chen Wen was quite fond of such traits.

Additionally, eating a lot of figs this time also helped Chen Wen achieve more balanced nutrition.

After all, figs have very high and rich nutritional value.

According to modern scientific research, figs contain abundant protein, dietary fiber, various vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids, especially containing higher levels of calcium, magnesium, and saturated fatty acids.

And these nutrients are exactly what they lacked in long-term survival.

Perfect!

After packing up, Chen Wen and the others continued their journey.

Seizing this period when it wasn’t too hot, they sped up their pace and quickly crossed the plain they were on.

Soon, at the end of the plain, they climbed over a small hill.

Beyond the hill was a second plain.

However, this plain was different from the previous one; the vegetation here was more lush.

Just the baobab trees visible along the way were in quite abundant numbers.

The direct sunlight here was weakened, making the path easier to walk.

But before reaching the second plain, there was a checkpoint blocking Chen Wen and the others.

And that was descending from the mountain right in front of them.

...

”This mountain is really steep!”

Looking at the valley and cliffs in front of them, Chen Wen couldn’t help but remark.

Erosion from rain and wind had formed a stone forest resembling karst topography on this mountain.

”These are canyons formed by rainwater and river erosion, it’s not easy for us to go down this way!”

Adam leaned out and took a glance.

Even though he didn’t have a fear of heights, Adam still felt dizzy after glancing down.

Dennis threw a rock down, judging the approximate height of the canyon based on the sound.

He shook his head and told Chen Wen, ”And even if we use ropes to go down, the ropes aren’t long enough. The height here is estimated to be between eighty to one hundred meters!”

Chen Wen nodded.

Besides the height, he also saw the sharp rock walls.

If they accidentally slipped, these sharp rock walls would cause serious external injuries to them.

”Let’s go around, we’ll split up and look for suitable places to descend. Everyone be careful and use walking sticks to ensure the ground ahead is stable.”

Chen Wen said, ”The probing task is not something Xiao Yuan can help with. Let’s set a time and regroup here in two hours to see what paths we’ve found.”

The task of scouting wasn’t suitable for Xiao Yuan to do. As a bird, Xiao Yuan couldn’t understand how terrain impacts terrestrial creatures.

Therefore, finding a suitable path for them to descend could only depend on themselves.

Xiao Yuan and the Taipan Snake, meanwhile, planned to find some prey to fill their bellies.

Compared to the jerky Chen Wen provided, the Taipan Snake and Xiao Yuan still preferred fresh meat.

...

Holding a long spear, Chen Wen began his search for a suitable path in the mountains.

But before Chen Wen could find a route, he encountered kangaroos.

The mountain had little vegetation, giving Chen Wen a wide view.

Using his [Far Sight], he could see even further.

Therefore, before the kangaroos noticed Chen Wen, he had already spotted them ahead of time.

A group of kangaroos was active on the rocks, seizing the not-too-hot time to forage.

They occasionally lowered their heads, searching for plants in the rock crevices.

These kangaroos were different from the red kangaroos seen earlier; they were much smaller in size.

Additionally, their fur was mainly black and gray-blue.

They looked similar in color to the rocks.

Chen Wen recalled the kangaroo information he’d seen, and quickly realized these kangaroos were likely rock kangaroos, also known as rock-wallabies.

Rock-wallabies mainly inhabit rocky, relatively arid hillside areas.

They prefer to be active on bare rock slopes with little vegetation.

Their size is smaller than red kangaroos, and they’re much lighter, but they are very skilled at darting among rocks.

Chen Wen crouched down, hiding behind a rock.

He scanned the rock-wallabies with a particularly predatory gaze.

The long spear was raring to go!

Chen Wen couldn’t resist pulling out the long spear.

Rock-wallabies were a great source of food, even if their meat might taste similar to that of red kangaroos.

But regardless, meat was meat!

Chen Wen and the group were still rather short on meat.

Besides, rock-wallabies were also a good source of potential traits.

If he could obtain a trait from them that aids in movement through rocky areas, that would be even better!
