Wilderness Survival with Druid System

After transporting all the baobab fruit to the camp.

Everyone started distributing the fruit.

Each person got one, paired with kangaroo jerky, which would be tonight’s dinner.

Fred took out an axe and instructed everyone to crack open the baobab fruit.

Soon enough, the mysterious interior of the fruit was exposed to everyone.

Under Dennis’s guidance, Chen Wen picked up the edible parts of the baobab fruit.

The baobab fruit reminded Chen Wen a bit of durian, but without the pungent smell.

After touching the amulet hanging around his neck, Chen Wen put the flesh into his mouth.

”How does it taste?”

Hua Yun, who was still hesitant about eating it, asked.

Chen Wen squinted and said, ”Sour! Not the pure fruit flesh kind of sour, more like a fermented sourness, but not too strong. There’s a hint of sweetness aftertaste. It’s gritty and a bit dry—feels kind of like milk powder. Can’t say it’s unpleasant, but definitely not tasty either.”

Hearing this, Dennis nodded, ”Yes, yes, that’s exactly the taste. Very normal. Everyone, give it a try!”

With that, he also began eating heartily.

While eating, he had to wash it down with water.

A bite of baobab fruit flesh paired with a bite of kangaroo jerky.

This dinner finally tasted a bit better.

After eating the baobab fruit, Chen Wen began to anticipate the entries it might offer.

Soon, there was a response from the system.

[Regarding the natural creation - Baobab Tree, proceeding with plundering!]

[Plundering... Plundering completed!]

[Please choose one of the following three entries]

[Loose Wood (Purple): Your bones will become loose]

[Note: To survive in arid places, sacrifices must be made! —Baobab Tree]

[Water Storage (Gold): Your body can store and accommodate more water, but it will appear bloated from the outside]

[Note: Though it may look ugly, you’ll appreciate it in times of drought! —Baobab Tree]

[Longevity (Gold): Break through the current life limit and substantially extend your lifespan. Your physical functions will also adapt to the extended lifespan]

[Note: Five thousand years! —Baobab Tree]

[Please make a choice within a minute or give up! Time-out will automatically select the first entry!]

Woohoo!

One shot, one kill!

Gazing at the baobab tree entries, Chen Wen couldn’t help but want to kiss his lucky charm!

Without any hesitation, Chen Wen resolutely selected the entry [Longevity].

After choosing the entry, he carefully sensed the effect of this entry.

On one hand, the lifespan extension was certain, but how much exactly, Chen Wen wasn’t too sure.

But he guessed it wouldn’t be as much as the baobab tree — several thousand years.

But a few hundred years should be achievable.

Besides that, Chen Wen also felt some changes in his body.

This change corresponded to the latter part of the entry — physical functions would adapt to the lifespan extension.

This adaptation, Chen Wen felt, should be extending his current physical state.

In his youth, Chen Wen might start aging in his thirties.

But now, Chen Wen felt that even at fifty, his physical state would be similar to now!

This entry is quite powerful!

However, regardless of its power, during the cultivation phase, this entry wouldn’t be activated.

By that time, his lifespan might revert to its previous state.

Seems like I should speed up leveling up the Druid rank.

And upon returning, I should also have the animals choose this entry.

Otherwise, in the old wolf’s current condition, it can only barely hang on relying on Greenland shark’s entry [Hibernation].

But with this entry, the old wolf wouldn’t need to sleep for ten months a year with only two months of activity.

Moreover, animals with shorter lifespans like the bobcat and wolf mink could gain much longer lifespans.

This entry is needed not just by the animals, but also by Chen Wen himself.

Seems like my predecessors weren’t very lucky; none of them got the baobab tree entry.

But on second thought, it hasn’t been many years since worlds started connecting to each other. Perhaps many Druid predecessors, upon awakening, had no idea that such a plant as the baobab tree existed.

So naturally, they wouldn’t have obtained such an extraordinary lifespan extension entry.

As for whether they had obtained other types of lifespan extension entries, Chen Wen wasn’t sure.

...

Clearing his scattered thoughts, Chen Wen looked at the others.

Everyone was marveling at how timely the baobab fruit arrived.

After all, pairing with the baobab fruit significantly suppressed the gamy taste of kangaroo jerky, improving the flavor tremendously.

After dinner, everyone patted their stomachs and felt deeply satisfied.

After a brief rest, everyone started to rest, getting ready for the next day’s journey.

The following morning.

After packing up briefly, everyone carried the baobab fruit they picked yesterday and set out on the road.

The weather in the morning wasn’t too hot. Although the humidity was still high, the felt temperature was much more comfortable.

During this time, everyone hurried across a vast plain with very sparse trees.

Otherwise, once the sun rose, crossing this plain would become extremely grueling.

After about two hours, the sun gradually displayed its full power.

With the scorching sunlight, the felt temperature soared.

The surrounding shrubs, under direct sunlight, also began to evaporate to cool down, making the surroundings muggy and humid.

Chen Wen shook his head helplessly.

This plain was just too vast; even with all their effort, they couldn’t get out before the sun was up.

”Put on your headscarves.”

Chen Wen reminded everyone.

Everyone put on headscarves fashioned from clothes, wrapping their heads to stay cool.

At this time, the sweat-drenched Fred took out his water bottle and shook it: ”Almost out of water.”

Upon hearing this, Chen Wen glanced at Fred.

This big guy was already sweating profusely, his hair matted together, and his light-colored clothes soaked with sweat.

”I sent the screaming kite to look, but there’s no progress yet.”

Chen Wen took out his own water bottle, shaking it.

He still had more than half a bottle.

And due to the entry’s existence, Chen Wen’s need for water was much lower than the others.

So, Chen Wen said, ”I’ll share half with you, hang in there.”

Fred knew this wasn’t the time for pride. He carefully poured half, not spilling a drop.

Meanwhile, Chen Wen looked up at the circling water-finding screaming kite, silently hoping it would find a large water source to refill everyone’s bottles.

Otherwise, today would not be easy!

Because Chen Wen noticed that today’s temperature seemed to be rising particularly fast.

And it was still morning, but the temperature was already similar to midday yesterday.

”It’s going to be hot today.”

Dennis also came beside Chen Wen, reminding him, ”I feel like we need to be extra careful today.”

Upon hearing this, Chen Wen nodded.

The hot weather and humid environment made heatstroke more likely.

And they didn’t have much water; the next stretch had no shade, making conditions worse.

Going back to find a place to hide wasn’t realistic, and finding a spot to rest wasn’t feasible either.

They didn’t have enough time to delay further; any unforeseen incident later would make this survival challenge a waste, all previous efforts in vain.

”Just hold on a bit longer.”

Chen Wen wiped the dense sweat off his forehead and said, ”Once we get out of this big plain, things will get better. Everyone, now’s not the time to give up!”

Listening to Chen Wen, everyone took deep breaths, adjusting their bodies.

”Let’s go!”
