Wilderness Survival with Druid System

In the heavy rain, Chen Wen enjoyed a thorough and refreshing bath.

The rain not only washed away the exhaustion from Chen Wen’s body but also provided him with immense psychological relief.

Dennis and the others felt the same way.

The long-standing survival pressure was swept away by the downpour.

However, the heavy rain brought some advantages and quite a few disadvantages.

As the torrential rain poured down, the surface water rose at a visibly fast pace.

After about thirty minutes, the water on the ground was already reaching Chen Wen’s calves.

After an hour, the water had reached knee level.

Watching the continuously rising water, Adam then realized how wise it was to build a shelter in the trees.

If they had camped on the ground, he didn’t dare to imagine what would have happened.

The rain came quickly and fiercely, but it also left quickly.

After about an hour and a bit more, the rain gradually weakened and turned into a light drizzle.

Seeing the rain subside, Chen Wen called everyone to get ready to make a fire.

After wading through the water to reach the others, Chen Wen said, ”We’ve just had some fun with water, now we must light a fire to ward off the cold, drink some hot tea, and also dry our clothes.”

Hearing this, everyone nodded in agreement.

They hadn’t felt it while playing, but as time passed, they began to feel a slight chill.

Thanks to the dry seed capsules and cotton fibers of the kapok tree, along with the pre-stored dry wood,

making a fire wasn’t difficult.

Chen Wen picked up a firestarter and aimed it at the cotton fibers.

With a swift strike of the knife, sparks flew onto the cotton, instantly igniting it and setting it ablaze.

”Wow! It’s so flammable?”

Chen Wen said in surprise, suddenly considering taking some cotton along for making fires later.

The others thought the same.

As they laid the dry wood onto the burning cotton, the bonfire immediately blazed up.

Once the bonfire was lit, Dennis began preparing a meat stew.

There was still leftover emu meat, just enough for them to cook up a pot of stew.

While the stew was cooking, Adam glanced at the waterlogged ground with some anxiety, ”This water shouldn’t affect us, right?”

”No, it won’t.”

Chen Wen confidently assured, ”By tomorrow morning, the water will seep through the ground and disappear. By the time we continue our journey in the morning, the water will be nearly gone, and with the sun shining, it’ll evaporate completely.”

Hearing this, Adam stopped worrying.

After the stew was ready, everyone drank it heartily, driving away their internal chill.

Soon, Chen Wen was able to dry his clothes and change into warm, dry attire, staving off any chance of colds or fevers.

Chen Wen leaned comfortably against a tree and sighed contentedly, ”Ah, this is nice!”

As his fatigue faded, a heavy drowsiness washed over him.

Nonetheless, he didn’t forget his important task.

After plucking some kapok tree leaves, Chen Wen popped them into his mouth.

The taste was astringent, with a slight bitterness, yet it left a vaguely vanilla aftertaste.

It wasn’t too bad; hopefully, it wasn’t toxic, and the potential entry would be beneficial.

Chen Wen mused silently.

After about ten seconds, the system responded.

He glanced at the entry provided by the kapok flower. Though it didn’t offer a healing entry, it did present a pretty good mindset-related one.

[Upward (Purple): When your height exceeds 1.8 meters, you’ll have a more positive and proactive mindset, easily feeling motivated under sunlight, enhancing your stress tolerance]

[Note: To get more sunlight, you must keep growing upward! — Kapok Flower]

Chen Wen’s height definitely exceeded 1.8 meters.

He couldn’t help but remark, ”So entries have height requirements now, huh!”

After choosing the entry, Chen Wen observed his body to see if the kapok leaves were toxic.

Squinting his eyes, he waited to confirm there was no discomfort before contently closing his eyes, allowing the beast named drowsiness to drag him into the abyss of sleep.

Whoo~ Whoo~

Accompanied by gentle and steady breathing, Chen Wen leaned against the tree and enjoyed the most comfortable sleep during this survival.

...

Night deepened.

Following the rotation for night watch, Dennis approached, intending to wake Chen Wen.

At that moment, a Taipan Snake coiled around Chen Wen’s body, alertly raised its head, with its dark eyes glimmering slightly in the lamplight as it glanced at Dennis.

Dennis shivered, not daring to make any further moves.

As he pondered whether to wake Chen Wen,

an eagle descended from the tree top.

Fully aware that Chen Wen was completely unguarded and sleeping soundly, the eagle decided to take up the watch for him.

It settled beside Dennis, emitting low calls.

Dennis, startled, bent down and asked, ”Are you planning to replace Chen Wen for the watch?”

While the eagle didn’t understand Dennis’s words, it conveyed its intention with gestures toward Dennis’s torch.

Dennis understood; this fire eagle indeed intended to stand in for Chen Wen on watch!

What an amazing creature!

Dennis nodded and left with the eagle.

It truly made little difference this night whether anyone kept watch or not.

After the rain, the ground was heavily waterlogged; should anything approach, they would hear it immediately.

The continued night watch was partly out of caution against unexpected events but mostly out of habit.

After taking the eagle back, Dennis planted the torch into the ground and then confidently went to rest as well.

The eagle hovered around Chen Wen and the others, dutifully keeping watch.

...

The next morning.

Chen Wen woke up comfortably and stretched with satisfaction.

This was the most peaceful sleep he’d had during this survival journey!

The vast moisture evaporating and seeping away absorbed heat, turning the temperature noticeably cooler.

Though the humidity was high, it hardly bothered Chen Wen.

Thus, he felt he had slept remarkably well last night!

Seeing Chen Wen awake, Dennis immediately called him for breakfast and relayed the events of last night to him.

Learning that the eagle kept watch in his stead and the Taipan Snake coiled around him to guard the surroundings,

Chen Wen felt quite touched.

Even without their vigilance, Chen Wen had activated the [Insect Repellent] entry before sleeping.

It not only repelled any approaching insects but also confused scent-and-pheromone-hunting animals into mistaking him for a tree.

After some brief conversation with Dennis, the others gradually woke up too.

Seeing the water had receded, everyone’s spirits lifted.

The weather wasn’t as hot as before, so they decided to seize the opportunity and favorable conditions to quickly cross the unshielded plains and reach the next survival area.

However, before leaving, Hua Yun stopped Chen Wen: ”Yesterday while you were playing over there, I noticed a fig tree on the cliff wall that seemed to bear fruit. Want to check it out?”

Fig tree?

Chen Wen clapped his hands, ”Absolutely, let’s have a look!”
