Wilderness Survival with Druid System

In fact, most of the snake repellents on the market don’t really work.

Not even realgar.

Most of the realgar you can buy now isn’t the real stuff that can repel snakes; its effect is far inferior.

Other methods like snake repellent powder, sulfur, and plant ash are also quite limited in their effectiveness.

Because snakes are not as afraid of chemical smells as they are of high temperatures.

Many times, clearing the surrounding grass and lighting a bonfire can avoid most venomous snakes.

If there’s a snake-repellent device that emits continuous vibrations, that could be used too.

Snakes are also very sensitive to vibrations.

Finally, handling kitchen waste properly, by throwing trash as far away from the camp as possible, helps.

This way, the trash won’t attract small mammals like mice to the camp, and without food, snakes naturally won’t come.

Of course, this excludes setting up camp right at the entrance of a snake’s den.

According to Chen Wen’s method for repelling snakes, everyone quickly set up the camp.

Chen Wen activated the entry [Insect Repellent], and an intermittent aura emanated from his body, causing the nearby insects to instinctively stay away.

A curious Taipan Snake looked at Chen Wen, thinking: Humans are at it again, every day at this time he turns into the smell of a tree, so weird!

Dennis also searched around in the surrounding shrubs for a while.

Before long, he found some insect-repelling plants and threw them into the bonfire to burn.

The smoke produced from the burning can also repel insects.

Under such precautions, if any venomous snakes or insects entered the camp, Chen Wen would accept it.

Such venomous creatures in the human world, like Chen Wen and his team, are adventurers specialized in venturing into dangerous places.

Letting a fellow adventurer inspect the situation, Chen Wen had nothing to say.

As long as this companion doesn’t get carried away and bite him.

...

They tidied up the camp.

Everyone sat together, chatting leisurely.

Dennis mentioned, ”Guys, we’re running low on food.”

What he referred to wasn’t the canned or staple food, but meat.

Since crossing the desert, they had eaten a lot of camel jerky along the way, and some had gone bad due to the weather.

They discarded what couldn’t be eaten and consumed quite a bit of what was edible.

So, upon checking the food supplies, Dennis found they didn’t have much meat left.

Chen Wen looked at the remaining jerky, and indeed, there wasn’t much left.

”It’s okay, as long as we can reach the Kimberley Plateau next, there are plenty of animals there. As long as we hunt, we can get enough food,” Chen Wen said confidently.

On the Kimberley Plateau, besides the ubiquitous kangaroos, there were also small numbers of camels migrating with the seasons, and feral cattle and horses brought to the island and gone wild.

These animals could all be hunted.

One friendly aspect of Australia for survivors is that there are almost no restrictions on hunting large herbivores.

Because of lacking top predators, these large herbivores have become quite the plague.

Adam nodded: ”That’s right, if we spot kangaroos or similar animals, we can hunt.”

Most of the time in the desert was spent traveling, leaving them little opportunity to showcase their hunting skills.

Now it’s different.

Upon reaching the Kimberley Plateau, food storage becomes more difficult, requiring them to hunt continuously for fresh food.

After Chen Wen and the others discussed the food issue.

Dinner was ready too.

Hua Yun served snake stew into tins, distributing it to everyone.

Besides providing them with enough vitamins, the tins Jens had previously gifted them also served as tableware.

After distributing the snake stew, Chen Wen immediately placed a brown tree snake, cooked to a tender state, into his mouth, chewing and swallowing it.

”The taste is alright, no peculiar flavor,” Chen Wen commented briefly, then immediately checked the entries.

From the brown tree snake’s provided entries, there was only one good entry.

No choice.

[Climbing (Purple): You are better at climbing, having improved effectiveness when climbing trees, and your body will be more stable]

For Chen Wen, this entry was somewhat useful but not overly so.

After all, Chen Wen had already followed China’s top rock climbing coaches to systematically learn climbing techniques.

Ordinary rock faces and trees couldn’t stop him at all.

However, the stability brought by this entry was still useful.

After choosing the entry, Chen Wen opened his eyes and chatted with the others about the taste of tonight’s dish.

...

Early the next morning.

Everyone got up early, packed their things, and kept moving forward.

Riding on camels and using sticks to tap the ground in front of and around them, they didn’t encounter much danger along the way.

Soon it was noon.

Chen Wen noticed it was very hot, so he suggested finding a place to rest and continue their journey after the hottest part of the day had passed.

The group readily agreed.

And just as they were setting up camp, Adam, who had been keeping watch from a distance, seemed to spot something.

He came over to Chen Wen, motioning for him to look at the woods on the east side of the camp.

”Do you see it?”

Adam asked.

Chen Wen squinted his eyes, and soon he nodded slightly: ”I see it, looks like a red kangaroo.”

Hearing Chen Wen’s voice, Dennis immediately came over.

However, he looked for a while but didn’t see anything.

Chen Wen pointed to the woods on the east side of the camp and said, ”About four hundred meters away in that wooded area, you can see a brownish-yellow kangaroo head through the gaps in the underbrush below the forest.”

Dennis gritted his teeth: ”Damn, are you guys eagles or something?”

But as he spoke, the red kangaroo behind the bushes stood up and hopped deeper into the forest.

This time Dennis saw it clearly.

”Red kangaroo, huh, definitely huntable.”

Dennis muttered, ”Remember what I mentioned yesterday?”

Chen Wen nodded.

They didn’t have much meat left.

And red kangaroo meat would be the best source of meat.

They are the largest marsupials in the world.

Male kangaroos are usually 150 centimeters long, with a weight of 70 to 80 kilograms.

Furthermore, kangaroo meat is rich in cholesterol and protein, making it an excellent supplementary food when paired with staple foods.

”But kangaroo meat is quite gamey and doesn’t taste very good, are you sure?”

Fred reminded them.

When he came to Australia, he had specifically gone to a supermarket to buy kangaroo meat to try it out.

But the taste...

Fred still felt uncomfortable thinking about it now.

”Come on, we’re survivors, who cares about taste?”

Chen Wen smirked, ”I think it’s just right, these red kangaroos seem to be resting in that forest. Once we’ve eaten, we can surround them from all sides, using bows, arrows, and the long spear, get as many as we can, what do you think?”

This simple and direct method really suited everyone’s thoughts.

Hua Yun picked up his long-unused bow and arrow, his eyes gleaming with eagerness.

Hunting kangaroos was an experience many hunters didn’t have.

Hua Yun certainly didn’t want to miss it.

But just as everyone was getting excited, Dennis dampened the mood.

He seriously said, ”Guys, red kangaroos aren’t that easy to hunt. If we rashly surround them, they might discover us before we even get in range to attack.”

Hearing this, Chen Wen was a bit stunned.

After a moment, he nodded, ”Dennis is right, red kangaroos are naturally vigilant and timid. Although they rest in the forest during the day, one kangaroo always acts as a ’sentry,’ constantly on alert for any danger. With the forest being vast, they will likely spot us before we even approach.”

Hearing this, everyone frowned.
