Chapter 589: Chapter 77: Frontal Assault

Konoha Village.

This is a peaceful and bustling ninja village, with clean streets where playful children occasionally run across.

A gentle breeze lifts a few green leaves; Konoha only seems to experience summer, with other seasons barely noticeable.

Occasionally, small groups of ninjas can be seen gathered along Konoha’s streets. These ninjas are responsible for the village’s safety, but it’s been peaceful for so long that their routine mostly involves chatting and playing cards.

”Konoha-Maru, wait for me.” 𝑓𝑟ℯℴ𝓂

A little girl with orange hair runs across the street, holding a skewer of dumplings in her hand.

The overall sense of Konoha is one of peace, but under this peace, darkness is about to fall. In a few minutes, a group will turn this place into a human hell!

At the edge of Konoha Village, in front of a temporary base.

A few ninjas wearing dark green vests are standing or sitting in front of the base, discussing something amongst themselves, occasionally laughing.

”Just like usual, all is well. It’s truly great to live in peaceful times.”

A Jonin sighs. Having participated in the Third Ninja World War, he is well aware of the cruelty of war.

Whoosh, whoosh~

Two scouting ninjas appear.

”Reconnaissance complete, no suspicious individuals found, just like before.”

A Chunin reports to the team’s Jonin.

”Hmm, it’s about time. Let’s head back, the weather’s nice today, perfect for fishing.”

”Captain, there’s a new tavern recently opened, and it’s quite good.”

”Is that so? Shall we meet there tonight?”

The Jonin looks around at his companions.

”No objections.”

”Of course I’ll go.”

”Uh... Captain, I...”

A young Chunin smiles brightly and scratches his head.

”This guy, just got married and already afraid of his wife, living in hell.”

”It’s not fear, it’s... that...”

The surrounding group laughs heartily, making the young Chunin blush.

As laughter fills the air, a swift wind noise arises, sweeping up fallen leaves.

Clang!

A light blue blade aura slices through, cutting the airborne leaves. The Chunin afraid of his wife suddenly stands frozen, a red line appearing around his neck.

His head falls to the ground, as a figure appears among the ninjas, moving with such speed that it seems they appeared out of nowhere.

”Good morning, everyone.”

Blades flash, almost forming a web of sharp edges.

Splatter, splatter, blood sprays. Two heads fly up, their expressions frozen in shock.

”Enemy attack!”

A Konoha ninja shouts, instinctively jumping back and forming seals with his hands. Despite being just an ordinary Konoha ninja, this action shows the high caliber of Konoha’s ninjas.

Unfortunately, he was closed in on by a Soul Reaper, who can instantly kill Shadow Level ninjas.

Su Xiao charges forward, closing the distance with the retreating ninja, his Dragon Slash slicing forward.

The bright blade light causes the ninja’s pupils to shrink, his last sight being a blood-stained long knife.

Splatter.

Another head flies up, leaving only two surviving ninjas out of the six present.

This is not over yet; Su Xiao pushes off the ground. With 50 points in agility, to the enemy he appears as just an afterimage.

Splatter, blood splashes; a still-responding Chunin is decapitated.

”Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu.”

Roaring flames emerge from the mouth of the last Jonin, forming a big fireball rushing towards Su Xiao.

Su Xiao generates a 50-strength energy shield in front of him. As the flames incinerate, the energy shield begins to crack.

Pressing on against the fireball, Su Xiao takes a few steps forward, reaching the Jonin.

”Withstood it? Impossible!”

The Jonin is shocked that Su Xiao seemingly ignored his jutsu.

Su Xiao retracts the energy shield and holds his knife with one hand, raising it high and unleashing a powerful strike at the Konoha Jonin.

The Konoha Jonin forms seals with his hands, preparing to use the Substitution Technique.

The long knife descends, leaving behind a shadow in the air.

With a snap, two arms fall to the ground; the Konoha Jonin is decapitated before completing his seals.

The Konoha Jonin stumbles backward, bleeding profusely from his severed arms. The pain causes him to break out in a cold sweat; this is without Su Xiao activating the Blue Steel Shadow, otherwise, he would know the meaning of a fate worse than death.

”Akatsuki Organization scum!”

The Konoha Jonin slumps to the ground in despair. His full potential unutilized, his arms severed, unable to form seals or use ninjutsu. He’s done for.

Su Xiao pays no attention to the Konoha Jonin’s words, slowly approaching, seemingly unaffected by any pleas to halt his assassination.

The despair felt by the Konoha Jonin is palpable, Konoha has been peaceful for so long that some of its ninjas have lost their former bravado and fortitude.

During the First, Second, and Third Wars, Konoha was mighty, occupying the most fertile lands and being at the center of the Four Great Countries without losing any territory.

But now, Konoha’s ninjas begin to prioritize bonds and comrades, weakening with each generation unless they can ’break the mold’, becoming progressively weaker.

”Wait...”

The long knife severs, and the Konoha Jonin’s throat is sliced open.

Su Xiao doesn’t need to extract information from his enemies; he has no habit of engaging in unnecessary dialogue. Most villains die because they talk too much, and he doesn’t intend to die such a foolish death.

Having killed these six Konoha ninjas without obtaining World Source, Su Xiao realizes that attacking Konoha might be similar to capturing the One Tail, being a plot event with rewards distributed at the end.

In less than a minute, six bodies lie scattered near Su Xiao, the blood dyeing the nearby grass red.

Six Pains and Konan emerge from the dense forest.

The patrol ninja in Konoha have been dealt with, and it’s time to attack Konoha.

”Prepare to begin. We’ll divide into two groups: the lure group and the reconnaissance group. First, determine personnel.”

Nagato, controlling Heavenly Dao, speaks after a moment of thought: ”The lure group will be Shurado, Chikushodo, and Gakido. The reconnaissance group will be Heavenly Dao, Ningendo, and Jigokudo. Bai Ye, you’ll also search for the Nine-tails.”

As he speaks, Heavenly Dao’s Rinnegan opens slightly wider, and a barrier appears.

”As expected, Konoha has placed a spherical barrier both underground and above the village. Execute the original plan, having Chikushodo thrown in from above to confuse the enemy regarding our numbers, causing chaos. Then wait for Chikushodo to summon, avoiding contact with the barrier.”

With the plan set, Shurado holds Chikushodo’s leg.

Shurado appears rugged, while Chikushodo is crafted from a petite female ninja.

”From now on, let the world feel the pain.”

As soon as Heavenly Dao finishes speaking, Shurado throws Chikushodo with all his might. Like a cannonball, Chikushodo flies towards Konoha,

high in the air, Chikushodo swiftly forms seals, completing them just as she crashes into a soft barrier.

Chikushodo penetrates the barrier, which serves only for detection and lacks actual defense capabilities.

Quietly landing on a rooftop, Chikushodo places her hand on the ground.

Bam.

White smoke rises, and the remaining five Pains are summoned within the barrier.

Konoha’s side has detected the intrusion, but their intelligence is incorrect, assuming only one enemy.

All six Pains gather, Heavenly Dao surveying the surroundings. There are no nearby threats; the plan was successful.

”Disperse.”

With a swish, the six Pains split into six shadows, racing in different directions.

Ten seconds later.

Boom, boom, boom...

The village is filled with the sound of explosions. Flames and black smoke rise as buildings collapse, screams spreading from all directions. Shurado is causing chaos.

”Roar!”

Three gigantic centipedes roar towards the sky, crushing buildings beneath them, causing massive casualties among the civilians; this is Chikushodo’s work.

The other Pains also spring into action; within a minute, Konoha descends into chaos, filled with unending screams and cries.
