Chapter 578: Chapter 66: Indirectly Killing Teammates

”Hmm.”

Tsunade looked towards the distant forest, hesitating on whether to join the battle herself. However, as the leader of Konoha, she couldn’t venture too far without arranging proper defenses, as this might be a ploy by the enemy to lure her away.

”Yuhi Kurenai.”

Yuhi Kurenai quickly stepped forward. After a brief conversation with Tsunade, she led Shizune, Kiba Inuzuka, and Hinata Hyuga into the forest to pursue. Tsunade remained still. As the leader, she couldn’t be swayed by personal emotions. She had to protect the whole Ninja Village.

...

Inside the forest.

Su Xiao was leaping between the trees, with over ten Root members giving relentless chase from behind.

After learning the location of the lab from Orochimaru, Su Xiao had anticipated the current situation, so he had already prepared an escape route, although he hadn’t expected to use it.

After leaping between the trees for a while, Su Xiao jumped to the ground, where Bubu Wang burst forth from a bush and caught him.

With this maneuver, Su Xiao’s retreat speed increased significantly, though the pursuing Root members were not slow either.

Riding on Bubu Wang’s back, Su Xiao instructed it to slow down, as he glanced backward. Just as the Root members emerged from the forest, he activated the alchemy bombs he had buried in advance.

Boom!

Flames surged up as several alchemy bombs exploded simultaneously.

These Root members were strong; just a few alchemy bombs couldn’t stop them.

A second after the explosion, screams echoed, and the trees within the blast radius were riddled with holes, with glimpses of iron beads embedded in the trunks.

The Root left behind two injured, but this wasn’t their last casualty; Su Xiao had set up many traps ahead.

The Root members found themselves in a dilemma: continuing the pursuit seemed foolish, yet they couldn’t defy Danzo’s orders.

Sounds of explosions and the sharp clinks of metal hitting metal followed the triggering of traps.

Twenty minutes later, Zhongshan Feng and Aburame Shibi halted, as the Root team was down to just four members, the others too injured to continue the chase.

”Feng, this is...”

”Let’s retreat. The enemy was well-prepared, and further pursuit is meaningless. I’ll apologize to Lord Danzo upon our return.”

The Root members ceased their pursuit, and the Konoha’s Anbu took over, following Su Xiao from afar.

After half an hour of tracking Su Xiao, the Anbu also gave up. Su Xiao was too difficult to pursue. They hadn’t even seen him, and along the way, they triggered at least dozens of traps, each more vicious than the last, most of them poisoned.

This poison had been giving the Anbu a severe headache, and it was also the reason the Root stopped their pursuit — it was a deadly poison gifted by Sasori.

Four hours later, Su Xiao was riding on Bubu Wang, leisurely running across the grasslands. The pursuing forces had been dealt with, and the pre-set traps had played a crucial role.

Just as Su Xiao was preparing to continue his journey and leave Konoha’s controlled area, Bubu Wang’s ears perked up.

”Woof.”

”Still being chased?”

”Woof woof.”

”Konoha’s people just won’t give up.”

After confirming the number and position of the pursuers with Bubu Wang, Su Xiao dashed toward that direction.

Any enemy capable of pursuing him for four hours must have special means. Without dealing with these people, Konoha’s pursuit squads would keep haunting him.

Half a kilometer from Su Xiao, behind a dirt mound.

”Hinata, is the enemy still escaping?”

Yuhi Kurenai was well aware of her team’s strength, so she hadn’t rashly confronted Su Xiao. Kakashi’s miserable condition was fresh in her mind, as he was still bedridden in Konoha Hospital.

”Let me scout.”

Hinata Hyuga felt a bit of pain in her temples, using the White Eye continuously for several hours wasn’t an insignificant burden, so she had to intermittently close her White Eye.

”White Eye, activate.”

Blood vessels surged on Hinata’s cheeks, and her vision turned black and white; now she had a 360° view, with everything within a kilometer in plain sight.

”Not good, the enemy is approaching us!”

Yuhi Kurenai’s heart tightened, how did the enemy find their position?

There was no time to ponder this, as Su Xiao stepped rapidly onto a patch of ground and, using Shave, sped toward Kurenai’s team.

Whoosh~

Su Xiao’s figure appeared not far from Hinata and the others, eyeing them before finally locking his gaze onto Hinata Hyuga.

”White Eye, huh. No wonder they can chase so far.”

Su Xiao drew the Dragon Slash from his waist, activated the Blue Steel Shadow, and charged at the four without a word.

The four-person team was hunting him; if he didn’t take them down, Konoha would hunt him to death.

In battle, Su Xiao never engaged in pointless talk with the enemy; he usually cut first, then spoke.

”Genjutsu: Tree Binding Death.”

Yuhi Kurenai, with her crimson eyes fixed on Su Xiao, was a genjutsu-type ninja.

Su Xiao’s forward advance came to a halt; he stood there dazed.

”Chiwan.”

With a bang, Kiba Inuzuka’s ninja dog Chiwan transformed into another Kiba Inuzuka.

”Fang over Fang.”

The two Kibas spun rapidly towards Su Xiao, like two tornadoes.

”Wait.”

Kurenai shouted, sensing something was wrong; the feedback from using the Genjutsu was rather weak.

But it was too late to call it off; Kiba was already using Fang over Fang to charge at Su Xiao. Given his current speed, if Fang over Fang hit Su Xiao, he wouldn’t be in good shape.

In his stiff position, a glint flashed in Su Xiao’s eyes as an energy shield formed in front of him.

Bang!

The energy shield, with a strength of 200 Mana Value, was enough to block Fang over Fang. After absorbing the impact, Su Xiao promptly moved the energy shield to his side.

A dazzling knife light flashed, so fast it was terrifying; Kiba only felt his eyes blur.

Squelch.

A head flew up; Kiba’s ninja dog Chiwan had its head severed.

”Chiwan!!”

In mid-air, Kiba’s eyes widened, not quite believing the scene unfolding before him.

Countless experiences proved that getting close to Su Xiao didn’t end well, especially for someone with Kiba’s strength.

After beheading Chiwan, Su Xiao swung the second strike toward Kiba.

Buzz.

A mass of small black insects surged toward Su Xiao, who tossed an alchemy bomb.

Boom!

The parasites were blasted apart. This was Shizune covering Kiba’s retreat, but it was too late.

Su Xiao thrust his sword forward. At this moment, Kiba hadn’t even landed.

”Human-Beast Hybrid Transformation·Three-headed Wolf.”

Just as Kiba was about to form seals, he suddenly remembered that his ninja dog Chiwan was already dead, rendering 95% of his jutsus unusable. This was the Inuzuka family’s weakness.

At this moment, Su Xiao’s strike had reached.

Squelch.

The sharp tip of the sword penetrated the body effortlessly, the long blade piercing Kiba’s abdomen as he landed.

”Bagua Vacuum Palm.”

Hinata assumed the Hyuga style’s opening stance, releasing Chakra from her palm, striking toward Su Xiao’s chest.

An energy shield formed on Su Xiao’s chest. With a thud, he was sent flying, with blood splattering, and a few drops stained his face.

”How did it turn out like this...”

Hinata’s mouth opened slightly, her lips trembling. Just a second ago, she indirectly caused Kiba’s death.

A horrific wound appeared on Kiba’s chest and abdomen, with glimpses of broken energy thorns inside the wound.

When Su Xiao thrust the Dragon Slash into Kiba’s body, he used Shadow Sting. The moment Shadow Sting spread inside Kiba, Hinata sent him flying, forcefully dragging those thorns from Kiba’s body, causing extremely gruesome injuries. Over two-thirds of Kiba’s internal organs were shredded.

Su Xiao released the Shadow Sting from the Dragon Slash, flicking the blood off the long knife.
