Chapter 577: Chapter 65: Konoha Village’s Pursuers

Inside the laboratory, Su Xiao suddenly opened his eyes from a deep sleep, sat up, and checked the time with a watch.

”I’ve been asleep for six hours. How did the village leader discover my whereabouts? Is it because of Orochimaru?”

Shaking his head, Su Xiao nudged Bubu Wang beside him.

”Get up, the enemy has arrived.”

”Ow~”

Bubu Wang’s paw moved, but its eyes remained closed, continuing to sleep.

Su Xiao took something out from the storage space and pried open Bubu Wang’s mouth to stuff it in.

Three seconds later.

”Awooo!!”

After a scream, Bubu Wang was energized, wide awake, its tongue stretching out long while its eyes rolled back.

A small piece of chili fell out of Bubu Wang’s mouth—it was a piece of Devil’s Chili, and Bubu Wang was nearly brought to tears by the spiciness.

Bubu Wang looked at Su Xiao, its tear-filled big eyes seeming to say: ’Master, how could you do this to me in my sleep? I’m dying from the spiciness.’

”The enemy has arrived, and you’re still sleeping.”

Bubu Wang retracted its tongue, listening to the nearby sounds.

”Woof.”

Bubu Wang barked, meaning the enemy was approaching from the left side.

”This is not a friendly visit.”

Su Xiao walked out of the laboratory, with Bubu Wang following behind and gradually vanished...

Bubu Wang didn’t turn invisible; instead, it activated the divine skill ’You Can’t See Me’ to disguise itself. In any case, Su Xiao truly couldn’t see the goof.

Su Xiao walked out of the underground laboratory, really wondering why Orochimaru always liked to build labs underground.

An old man stood not far from the laboratory entrance, leaning on a wooden cane.

”A member of Akatsuki.”

Danzo always had an expression as if his eyes were closed, and his face was emotionless, giving off a gloomy feeling.

”What’s the matter?”

Su Xiao glanced at Danzo and then looked around. At least a dozen root members were hidden around.

From the original work, Su Xiao had a preliminary understanding of Danzo. Although this guy’s rhetoric was quite inciting, his nature as a politician could not be changed.

Danzo was like a double-edged sword; used properly, he could kill enemies, but left unchecked, he would backfire, and he was intensely keen on power.

Only the Second and Third Hokage could suppress Danzo. During the Third Hokage’s rule, the Third was the overt leader, while Danzo handled the covert, doing things that couldn’t see the light of day.

But with the Third’s death, Danzo, this dark snake, revealed his true nature. If Su Xiao were the ruler of Konoha, the day the Third died, Danzo would have to be buried with him at any cost, or the consequences would be endless.

The Third, as Danzo’s childhood playmate and rival, could have Danzo do his bidding, only occasionally pulling some small stunts.

It was impossible for others to be the Hokage; whoever became Hokage, Danzo would try to kill them and replace them.

Though he failed in the elections for village leader, one must admit, Brother Danzo was always very stable.

When he couldn’t become the Fourth Hokage, he aimed for the Fifth; when that failed, he aimed for the Sixth. A snake hidden underground—this description suited Danzo perfectly.

”An Akatsuki member appearing near Konoha, I can consider this a threat.”

Danzo’s tone was slow and deliberate, with a hint of killing intent in his half-closed single eye.

”Think whatever you want.”

Su Xiao drew the Dragon Slash from his waist; today’s matter couldn’t end peacefully. He had a feeling that Danzo had set his sights on him, but the specific reason was unknown.

The Dragon Slash unsheathed, its bright blade reflecting in Danzo’s single eye.

”Hand over the First Generation cells and research results on your body, and I’ll spare your life. These belong to Konoha.”

Su Xiao was momentarily stunned by Danzo’s words, but then understood what was going on, glancing at Danzo’s right arm.

The other had transplanted Hashirama Cells in his body. He had previously experimented with Original Hashirama Cells, which this snake might have sensed. With the Hashirama Cells’ activity, it wasn’t impossible.

This was something Su Xiao hadn’t expected. Luckily, it wasn’t a big problem; only a dozen root members were dispatched, plus Danzo. While Su Xiao indeed wasn’t a match, it would be hard for them to make Su Xiao stay.

Under the pressure of the Fifth Hokage Tsunade, Danzo didn’t dare make too big a move, only bringing a dozen people.

Su Xiao stomped on the ground, seemingly charging toward Danzo.

Danzo’s pupils constricted; he had heard something about Su Xiao’s close combat ability.

Two figures blocked Danzo’s front—Yama no Kaze and Aburame Shibi.

As the two assumed fighting stances, ready to confront Su Xiao, Su Xiao suddenly stopped his forward charge, raising his left arm.

Zi-

The sound of metal wires retracting came, a barely noticeable wire tied to a distant tree trunk, pulling Su Xiao back swiftly.

”Lord Danzo,”

Zhongshan Feng looked at Danzo, meaning to ask if they should pursue.

Danzo hesitated for a moment, released the wooden cane, and drew his right arm from within his clothes.

”Stall him. Buy me time. We must obtain Hashirama cells.”

”Understood.”

Zhongshan Feng and Aburame Shibi pursued Su Xiao, along with the root members hidden within the forest.

Danzo’s right arm was wrapped in bandages. Not only that, but there were three shackles on his arm, meant to suppress the activity of the First Generation cells. The Hashirama cells Orochimaru helped Danzo transplant were not perfect; using this arm for too long would subject Danzo to the erosion of Hashirama cells.

Because of this, upon discovering Su Xiao carrying Hashirama cells nearby, Danzo immediately came after confirming Su Xiao’s position.

Danzo had his subordinates research the Hashirama cells, but unfortunately, geniuses like Orochimaru were rare; his subordinates found nothing substantial.

As Danzo was unlocking the second seal, a rapid sound of footsteps approached.

”Elder Danzo, why did you deploy the root unit without permission?”

Danzo’s actions had already stopped; he couldn’t expose that right arm to the light, or it would reveal a lot, unless he could eliminate witnesses.

The one who came was obviously not someone he could eliminate. If he dared to eliminate the Fifth Hokage Tsunade, he would have to defect.

”Protecting Konoha’s safety is root’s responsibility. What is the Fifth Hokage’s business here?”

”Protecting Konoha...”

Tsunade chuckled lightly, saying no more.

The root organization was what Tsunade most wanted to eradicate. They were never seen when Konoha was under attack, yet always showed up to stir things up during peacetime.

”Where is the enemy from, and which Ninja Village do they belong to?”

Tsunade’s question made Danzo’s face change slightly. He thought there might be a traitor within the root, but this idea quickly vanished.

”An Akatsuki member, Bai Ye.”

Danzo didn’t hide Su Xiao’s identity. Tsunade could also capture Su Xiao; his goal was the Hashirama cells and research data.

”An Akatsuki member!? Bai Ye!”

Tsunade’s forehead veins popped with rage, her amber eyes glaring wide, while light yellow Chakra surged all around.

”Where is he now?”

Tsunade uttered each word with extreme anger, which made Danzo somewhat surprised and slightly displeased. He believed a Hokage should not show emotions so visibly.

The Akatsuki had just killed Jiraiya, whose remains couldn’t even be found, with only a string of code left behind.

With Jiraiya’s body still warm, an Akatsuki member appeared near Konoha. Tsunade’s anger was completely understandable.

”Fifth, I have already sent people to chase...”

Before Danzo could finish, Tsunade’s furious eyes turned to him, causing Danzo to feel a slight anger.

”In the direction of 30 degrees.”

Danzo left this sentence and turned towards Konoha. As he turned his head, his gaze grew incredibly gloomy.

As Danzo left, Tsunade’s furious expression disappeared. Shizune came running out of the forest beside them with small steps, followed by several Konoha Ninja.

”Lady Tsunade, I have gathered the Jonin squads not currently on missions. For now, I’ve only found Yuhi Kurenai’s squad. The other Jonin squads will arrive within five minutes, and the Anbu have already gone to pursue.”
