System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

The night sky was bright, dotted with stars.

At 10:40 p.m., Lu Cheng drove out of the parking lot of Ji City’s high-speed train station, with his phone’s GPS on and connected to the car’s phone system, while watching the flow of traffic.

”Director Wu, yes, I’ve just returned, just got off the train, planning to drive home to rest.” Lu Cheng replied.

Lu Cheng applied to go to Han City to study Limb Preservation Surgery without needing to report to Wu Xiang from the Trauma Department, only needing to inform Director Huang Haibo, who would then submit a report to the hospital’s medical department.

Compared to the study funds applied for by the trauma center, Lu Cheng’s investment here is highly rewarding, and the staff answering the phone in the medical department immediately decided that the reimbursement procedures from the finance department could be handled directly by him personally.

”You went to Han City? Why? To find a partner?” Wu Xiang didn’t think deeply.

”Went to Zhongnan Hospital, although I didn’t find Professor Lan Hualuo at Zhongnan Hospital, I found his student to continue consolidating Limb Preservation Surgery.”

Lu Cheng laughed lightly, ”Sharpening the knife doesn’t delay the chopping of wood, but Director Wu, I’ve been busy all day, I’m exhausted, really not fit to do another surgery now.”

Learning to perform surgery requires much more mental effort than completing a surgery that takes the same amount of time.

Creating new memory synapses, extracting knowledge reserves requires brain operation, inference, energy consumption and exhaustion are considerable...

Lu Cheng is made of flesh and blood, not iron, and doesn’t have the stamina potions from TV dramas and fantasies, really can’t withstand it.

”Haha? You went to learn surgery again?” Wu Xiang was quite surprised.

The more he understood Lu Cheng, the actions Lu Cheng had taken slowly emerged within Wu Xiang’s view.

After Lu Cheng passed the selection exam and went to Xiangzhou People’s Hospital, he went to four places.

Kyoto, Sha City, Rongcheng, Han City.

He went to Sha City to learn ECMO, a reserve established by the emergency department for life-saving pathways.

He went to Rongcheng to familiarize himself with the trauma center’s establishment process.

This time going to Han City was definitely to deal with damage situations.

Irrespective of other things, this learning attitude alone deserves appreciation and recognition from superiors.

”Director Wu, having many things I don’t know compels me to learn. For this surgery, I hope you can find another way.”

”To be responsible for the patients, for you, Director Wu, and for myself, I really can’t come.” Lu Cheng’s tone also seemed a bit tired.

”Okay, then you should head home early and get some rest.” Wu Xiang replied, putting down the phone, with a distant voice coming through —

”Look at Lu Cheng, even being so busy he finds the time to go out and learn, what about you all… one…”

With that, Director Wu Xiang hung up the phone, and Lu Cheng didn’t hear anyone else speak.

After hanging up, Lu Cheng immediately used voice dialing to call Mu Nanshu: ”You can take a taxi now, we’re going out for skewers.”

”I saw in the group, Dai Linfang and Brother Zhang Xibei have already arrived.”

Lu Cheng didn’t feel any mental pressure.

Having skewers only requires movement of the mouth, not thinking or manual work, they are entirely different things.

The damage situations can’t be completed as a one-hour surgery; after six or seven hours of meticulous operation.

With Lu Cheng’s current condition to do such a long surgery again, the result will either be the patient becomes deformed or Lu Cheng becomes deformed.

”Yes, yes. Can leave soon!~”

”I was just waiting for your news.” Mu Nanshu had participated in a group meal previously, she was already eager this time.

Being a researcher, most often working diligently on precise research work, the occasional gatherings bring a delightful change to life.

Unlike surgery, which used to be uncontrolled, drinking and feasting every day, gatherings were just an accompaniment to the surgery’s aftertaste.

Although it’s now managed, the phenomenon of private gatherings cannot be completely eradicated.

...

When Lu Cheng got out of the car, Mu Nanshu was already waiting by the roadside, waving to signal where Lu Cheng could park, while saying, ”I’ve asked here, the owner said it’s okay to park.”

”There won’t be any tickets, they’ve already notified the traffic police.”

After parking, Lu Cheng opened the car door, turned to take his phone, got out, and rubbed his eyes: ”Have you ordered yet?”

”Already ordered, they’ve started chatting.”

Mu Nanshu’s expression was quite serious: ”You better go over, the news Xie Yuan’an brought this time has something to do with you.”

Lu Cheng held Mu Nanshu’s left hand, feeling it soft as if boneless, his mind clear, ”What does it have to do with me?”

”You’ll know after listening, I’m here to pick you up.” Mu Nanshu hadn’t listened in detail either.

When Lu Cheng and Mu Nanshu approached, Xie Yuan’an was at the climax of the discussion: ”This time at the Asia-Pacific Hand Surgery Conference, the matter, according to my dad, that’s slightly related to us is this trivial matter.”

”The Japanese team dissected Lu Cheng’s Tendon Suturing Technique, found traces of Professor Tsuge’s suturing technique within it, and brought it up at the conference, stating that the technique should be attributed to Professor Tsuge.”

”Of course, knowledgeable hand surgeons dismissed this notion, that all suturing techniques, although varied, originate from the simple interrupted suture. If merely seeing traces requires attribution, then the research world can’t function.”

Dai Linfang glanced at Lu Cheng, eyes shifting methodically to Xie Yuan’an, playing along: ”Did Professor Tsuge himself attend?”

Xie Yuan’an shook his head: ”Professor Tsuge is older than Professor Tang who developed the Tang method, and he rarely attends such international academic conferences anymore.”
