System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

Of course, a specialization level of 20/20 is sufficient. In the entire Xiangzhou People’s Hospital’s surgical system, there are few who reach this standard, though there are some.

No one dares to find fault with Lu Cheng, simply saying the work is poorly done.

Liu Nongqiu’s expression slightly froze; during his residency training, he hadn’t heard of these things. His eyelids lifted slightly, seemingly revealing a glimmer.

Dai Linfang naturally noticed Lu Cheng, but seeing Lu Cheng’s attentive expression in class, he appeared a bit reserved and explained, ”Xiao Liu’s operational details are somewhat unconventional. I’m just guiding him.”

Lu Cheng moved closer and sat down: ”I just heard, and I also feel I have some unconventional methods. Go on.”

”Brother Dai, I’ve always said that I’m not as good as you in theoretical refinement. It’s a truth, not just flattery.”

Dai Linfang wasn’t pretentious either: ”So, Liu Nongqiu, you still need to watch more educational videos. These materials, I spent time and effort gathering.”

”If uploaded online, they could be sold for money.”

”You don’t need to absorb everything at once. Take it step by step. First follow the rules rigidly; the more strictly you adhere to them, the more flexible you’ll be once you understand them thoroughly.”

”Now, let’s talk about your suturing skill...”

Liu Nongqiu just graduated from residency training. His qualifications are not even up to Lu Cheng’s level, who didn’t have a ’guiding tutor.’ He’s still quite young, just a little over twenty-five, and has much to learn.

In the midst of an engaging discussion, Lu Cheng couldn’t help but contribute a few words.

Half an hour later, Liu Nongqiu was prodded by Dai Linfang: ”Hey, are you just listening and forgetting? Tell me, what did I just talk about?”

Only then did Liu Nongqiu realize he forgot to take notes. He quickly took out a new notebook and asked Dai Linfang for key points.

This is a matter of learning attitude, which is influenced by personal habits and the surrounding environment.

A good environment may not elevate you instantly but will certainly correct your learning attitude.

Lu Cheng likes to take notes… Dai Linfang is the same… both believe that a good memory can’t trump a writing hand.

...

At noon, in the lounge.

”Did Professor Dong also go to the lab?” Dai Linfang opened the lunchbox lid and began devouring his meal like a ravenous dog, using the opportunity to save time as he spoke.

Dai Linfang had said that the trauma center class should be treated like a residency shift in a teaching hospital; efficiency must be pursued in solving all problems, otherwise, forget about eating, eliminating waste, or drinking.

Patients won’t wait for you to resolve personal matters.

”With the hospital leadership’s support, the trauma center just opened today and the patients being sent in are primarily minor injuries and dislocations.”

”Administrators aren’t all bad; they want the trauma center to succeed, not for us to perish here.”

”After confirming this over the phone, Professor Dong left. He wants to practice a few more animal models to avoid spending more money on them when he returns to Sha City.” Lu Cheng replied.

Dai Linfang nodded slightly, a hint of a smile on his face: ”The larger the hospital, the more the administrative roles revert to their essential functions.”

”In the top-tier hospitals, clinical professors can nominate replacements for administrative positions.”

The best hospital Lu Cheng had previously worked at was Zhongnan Hospital, though he hadn’t been involved deeply. However, Dai Linfang probably knew something about it.

Lu Cheng nodded gently: ”That’s best. If we encounter good administrators, they should be respected as their work isn’t easy!”

Regardless of what happened at Long County People’s Hospital, at Xiangzhou People’s Hospital, Lu Cheng truly felt some concern from the administration.

Liu Nongqiu suddenly rushed in: ”Brother Dai, Director Lu, a trauma case just came in with a vascular injury.”

Upon hearing this, Dai Linfang immediately put down his chopsticks: ”Let’s go! Time to get to work.”

Liu Nongqiu glanced at Lu Cheng, remembering that Lu Cheng had mentioned vascular injuries should be prioritized for him. Although Dai Linfang had privately instructed to call him first, Liu Nongqiu still felt Lu Cheng was more reliable.

”You all go; if Dai Linfang can’t manage, he’ll call me.” Lu Cheng waved, ”Finish quickly and come back early to eat.”

One person can’t manage a patient alone. Although Dai Linfang’s vascular suturing technique hasn’t reached his level yet, it’s better than over 90% of people.

Others can operate on the patient. There’s no reason Dai Linfang can’t.

Dai Linfang isn’t like the Young Master Kun Lu Cheng encountered at Long County People’s Hospital, relying solely on recklessness for opportunities.

”Alright, Director Lu, I’ll report to you anytime!” Liu Nongqiu turned and walked away.

Lu Cheng continued to sit firmly; at this moment, his mindset began to shift slightly.

Perhaps some leaders don’t neglect tasks not because they don’t want to, but because they don’t want to handle everything themselves.

The priority is for a task to have broader completion capabilities over higher completion quality.

...

Right after lunch, Lu Cheng promptly stepped in for the shift.

Deng Duanniu hurriedly approached: ”Lu Cheng, the ER’s gone crazy today, with a line of tendon injury patients.”

”Our hospital’s hand surgery department really can’t handle it anymore. The operating room is also fully booked, with a total of five surgeries lined up!”

”Dr. Jiang Liechao from the hand surgery department recommended you to medical affairs. What’s your take?”

The hand surgery department hasn’t completely handed over the tendon injury cases to the trauma center but has indicated that the trauma center can perform tendon suturing surgeries, yet the priority should belong to the hand surgery department.

The hand surgery department at the State People’s Hospital sustains itself on these types of cases.

”Send them over once the preoperative exams are done!” Lu Cheng quickly replied.

The newly established trauma center desperately needs surgical volume, regardless of what type of surgery it is, just focus on the numbers first.

Surgeries are the way to make a living.

”Okay!”

”Can you really perform tendon sutures?” Deng Duanniu nodded, his tone particularly surprised.

Lu Cheng nodded: ”Brother Deng, I did it for a while when I was working in Long County!”

”The patient can walk themselves, right? We don’t need to help push them?”

Deng Duanniu walked away: ”No need. I just came to relay a message. The emergency volume for tendon injuries today is a bit insane!”

”I’m heading back.”

As Deng Duanniu walked off, Lu Cheng quickly found the corresponding blank templates for tendon sutures, printed them out, ready for signing consent anytime.

In the Xiangzhou People’s Hospital’s hand surgery department, patient volume is neither too much nor too little.

However, if a patient comes in, rather than referring them to another hospital, they will still prioritize the hospital’s other doctors.

Keep the benefits within the family, so to speak.

The incoming case was indeed not difficult—just a simple single extensor tendon injury, something Lu Cheng had done at least dozens of times.

After quickly and stably completing the patient briefing and obtaining consent, Lu Cheng proceeded to perform the procedure with a nurse assisting as his aide.

After Lu Cheng finished the tendon suture operation, Dai Linfang next door was still dealing with the previous patient!

”Director Lu, you really are quick.” The young nurse from the hospital wasn’t very old, just around twenty-four or twenty-five, and seemed eager to improve.

Dai Linfang and Liu Nongqiu had opened the surgery first and were still ongoing, comparatively slower in speed.

”Surgery is about precision, not speed. Ensure quality before seeking pace.”

Lu Cheng smiled, ”Luo Yuan, how many years have you been graduated?”

”I’m in my third year since graduation, and it’s also my third year working.” Luo Yuan was a standard four-year undergraduate who found a good job with a position immediately after graduation.

Lu Cheng nodded: ”Ah, you were also in the emergency department before? I can tell you’ve experienced emergency training.”

”But I still can’t match Director Lu’s rich experience. Director Lu, you truly are amazing.” Luo Yuan smiled brightly, her eyes sparkling, sending flirtatious signals.

Lu Cheng is handsome, skilled, and currently holds the position of one of the ”Deputy Directors” of the emergency department, and he’s still young!

Those who adore the tall and handsome type in surgery almost find their dream scenario fulfilled with him.

The key is that he’s not married yet!

Engagement or not, as long as it’s not marriage, it doesn’t count as disrupting a family.

Lu Cheng shook his head: ”I’m merely mimicking the masters and teachers, fumbling my way through, hardly remarkable.”

”Do prepare some more debridement suture packs, okay? Much appreciated.”

”I’ll treat you to bubble tea later.”

The trauma center is staffed with a nursing department, and ten nurses take turns on duty. Whether they can manage to have enough work depends on the patient volume that Lu Cheng and others handle.

”Thank you, Director Lu!~” Luo Yuan shed her amorous gaze, her demeanor gradually becoming reserved. She realized that Lu Cheng perhaps didn’t fancy flirtatiousness.

Lu Cheng’s thoughts remained undisturbed, but holding this position, even just on the first day, he became increasingly aware of the challenges and pressures once faced by the likes of Lin Qianlong, Du Qiang, and other directors.

Not in position, one should not meddle in affairs!

Just follow the examples of the masters, tread the ground steadily and surely.

A tendon suture, although simple, has a surgery fee of almost two thousand yuan.

Compared to the average person’s salary, it’s quite expensive.

Yet, what reaches Lu Cheng’s hands is less than ten percent!
