System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

”But if I can really perform this kind of surgery, it’s no problem to get a certificate from a training course. The rest is like the spleen repair surgery...”

Wu Xiang’s facial bones protruded distinctly, his jaw moving quickly, he took a deep breath: ”You mean, if I don’t go along with you, you’ll operate on me?”

Oh, Lu Cheng, you’re that bold?

If I don’t cooperate, you’ll bypass me? Build the stage yourself?

Lu Cheng laughed: ”But I know you’re not like that, Director Wu. From how you shared simple fracture reductions with our trauma center, I knew you were a respectable elder.”

”I haven’t prepared for this, but since you asked, I think I can do it. This is the path I can take.”

Did Lu Cheng get approval from the State People’s Hospital’s general surgery department when he obtained the spleen repair and preservation surgery permissions?

Not at all. Lu Cheng first got such permissions at the Long County People’s Hospital and County Health Bureau, then smoothly extended it to the State People’s Hospital and State Health and Health Commission.

With the patronage of Professor Chen Song and signatures from the expert committee, unless the health committee of a prefecture-level city were out of its mind, they wouldn’t reject Lu Cheng’s application for permissions!

Surgical authorization is an entry system, a pass system, not a competition-based one.

”You’re quite something!” Wu Xiang was both crying and laughing.

”Director Wu, I’m just an ordinary person, with a bit of luck, coming across some opportunities.”

”Otherwise, you might have noticed me years ago, Director Wu.” Lu Cheng brought the topic back again.

”Hmm, no matter how you see it, at least what you’re doing now solves my urgent problem.”

”However, whether this surgery is successful can’t be determined right now. If we want to conclude, we still need someone to verify.”

”It must be done this way.” Wu Xiang said, squeezing with his right hand.

He gestured: ”Xiao Lu, do you think you should invite someone, or should I?”

Lu Cheng quickly replied: ”If you are willing, Director Wu, it would be best if you invite them.”

This was the second sentence conveying the meaning that if you won’t do it, I will do it myself!

Anyway, it means either you jump in, or you stay on the bank, watching me operate or being helpless.

Wu Xiang’s face changed unpredictably: ”Honestly, I feel like hitting you. I’ve never heard someone your age talk to me this way.”

In all of Xiangzhou, there are only three people who would dare subtly suggest such a thing to him.

Associate Professor Huang Jianjun, Ji City People’s Hospital, and the Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, the two old rivals.

But they’re not Lu Cheng’s age.

Lu Cheng quickly replied: ”Director Wu, maybe you misunderstood. If you don’t do it, then I have no choice but to do it myself. I’m helpless here.”

”Mutilating injury, limb preservation surgery.”

”Amputation.”

Wu Xiang nodded: ”With this surgery as a base point, indeed no one can pry away your position.”

”Of course, with a spleen repair surgery added, the leaders can also suppress complaints from many below.”

”You certainly don’t need my help anymore.”

”Hiss~~” Wu Xiang took a deep breath: ”Lu Cheng, strictly speaking, limb preservation surgery is a sub-specialty of both trauma surgery and hand surgery. You’re this young?”

”How can you straddle both sub-specialties?”

Lu Cheng responded calmly: ”Director Wu, in the county, I was forced to change fields. I used to focus solely on trauma surgery, then I went to the emergency department, switched to tendons, and then experimented...”

This is the path Lu Cheng came along, and he wasn’t shy about it.

Whether Wu Xiang acknowledged it didn’t matter; with witnesses observing, Wu didn’t need to question how Lu Cheng became so exceptional.

What’s it to you? Is this your concern...

Wu Xiang strolled a hundred meters outside the hospital, feeling that wearing only scrubs was a bit chilly.

Checking the group messages, after he finished the most difficult surgery, the remaining scheduled surgeries were being led by associate chief physicians.

No need to return to the operating room, Wu Xiang went to the dressing room, changed his clothes, and rode the elevator to the ward.

Wu Xiang didn’t intend to find today’s on-duty doctor Liang Shuhao; he only wanted to go to the director’s office to consider today’s events.

But at the door, Liang Shuhao, upon seeing Wu Xiang, actively approached to report: ”Director Wu, today I convinced Dr. Lu from the emergency department to assist with an amputation surgery.”

Liang Shuhao wasn’t much older than Lu Cheng, having graduated six years ago from Hengda University with a master’s degree.

Currently in his third year as an attending, during his first year, he underestimated the theoretical exam, thinking he was prepared due to his master’s degree, but had to retake and passed the second time...

People of the same age, different fates, Wu Xiang laughed bitterly: ”So, next time you’re on duty, will you still ask him to do amputations?”

Liang Shuhao scratched his chin: ”Not necessarily, Director Wu, mainly because I agreed with Director Lu that from our trauma department, we’d assign him five or six cases a month at most.”

”These surgeries, if done too much, actually...”

”Anyway, five or six slots, several brothers in the team can share them.”

”You always say, we’re a big family; the better we get along, the better the department will develop.”

Wu Xiang nodded, agreeing with Liang Shuhao’s words: ”Then keep it, give more to others to switch over. Today’s slot, Director Lu didn’t use.”
