System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

Lu Cheng bent over and entered: ”Professor Dong, you’re still at work?”

”Chen Fang is really tactless.” Lu Cheng complained.

Chen Fang quickly checked the time and immediately said in a panic: ”I’m sorry, Professor Dong, I forgot to check the time. It’s already past seven, you should go home and rest.”

Generally speaking, it’s never the guest’s fault; it’s always the host’s poor hospitality.

Dong Liumeng came to support the trauma center, not to be a workhorse for the trauma center!

Chen Fang immediately responded: ”Director Lu, I will definitely pay attention to time next time.”

Dong Liumeng pursed his lips and then said: ”Alright, alright, I’m leaving now, no need to make it difficult for you.”

”Just right, Professor Qu has mentioned that I should visit him tonight.”

Lu Cheng and Chen Fang hurriedly saw Professor Dong Liumeng off together, escorting him all the way to the entrance of the emergency department, before turning back.

At around seven in Ji City, shadows were already cast everywhere. Lu Cheng stood on the right, taller than Chen Fang, his elongated shadow completely covering Chen Fang.

Chen Fang’s expression became increasingly courteous: ”Director Lu, before Professor Dong and the others, I was really too casual.”

Lu Cheng quickly said: ”Brother Fang, there’s no need.”

”We’ve long agreed that we’re the same age, each do our own thing, and it’s best to separate friendship and clinical practice organically.”

”I don’t wish to bring the old generational hierarchy into the workplace here.”

Chen Fang was tall and thin, but his height was relative. Being thin made him appear taller, and he adjusted his glasses, contemplating for a moment.

He nodded and agreed with Lu Cheng’s statement: ”Brother Lu, actually, I don’t want too many formalities either. It’s just that your accomplishments really are...”

”I think, comparing you to a book, the more I read, the less I understand, is the most fitting.”

”Silently, or rather, before I actually opened this book, I didn’t understand its background, I didn’t understand the words, how could I understand its content?”

Lu Cheng said: ”Didn’t you open it and read anyway?”

”A book is meant to be read, distilling the text inside is what matters. To truly study the author’s background, creative process, and creative history, that is the job of researchers.”

Lu Cheng knew that Professor Dong and Chen Fang had talked in-depth about Lu Cheng’s research prowess: ”Put another way, I’ve only just stepped on this path, a complete newbie.”

”It’s just that I’ve taken a few more steps.”

”If we’re really talking about paper output, Brother Dai could lift me up and beat me; we ought to kneel before him.”

Dai Linfang claims to be a loser, yet this ’loser’ has authored papers with an impact factor of 8 in top-tier journals.

The 8-point impact factor paper this ’loser’ achieved was gifted by his teacher, allowing him to graduate.

Lu Cheng didn’t have such high-quality papers, wouldn’t he have to kneel and grovel before the likes of Professor Huang?

This kind of statement is, of course, inaccurate.

Chen Fang, realizing he couldn’t win against Lu Cheng, changed the topic and entered the emergency department, heading directly to the trauma center corridor while speaking: ”Director Huang came by this afternoon.”

”I told him about yesterday’s surgery, he said he knew and that he came just for this matter.”

”Director Huang checked our trauma center’s medical records, conversation signatures, and many details, pointed out some loopholes to us.”

”I wrote them down in my notes.”

Upon hearing this, Lu Cheng’s gaze sharpened, immediately saying: ”Let me see.”

The two walked side by side towards the trauma center.

In the operating room of the trauma center, Zhang Zixu, who was not tall but with a muscular build, was attentively cleaning and suturing a patient. Upon hearing Lu Cheng and Chen Fang enter the trauma center, he purposely raised his voice while operating to communicate with the patient!

This was quite student-like behavior, as he hadn’t fully shed the immaturity of a surgical student.

However, Lu Cheng and Chen Fang didn’t correct him.

For a medical student to mature, it takes not only the judgment of a superior but also self-assessment of their own abilities.

When they reach that level of maturity, they naturally become concise in speech, communicate efficiently, and soothe patient emotions with minimal words.

Before reaching this level, one can only do more talking.

Zhang Zixu wasn’t as aggressive as Tian Zhuang; he had the ability and opportunity to adjust himself.

Chen Fang’s notes were handwritten with a black pen on paper.

There was Chen Fang’s handwriting, as well as Huang Haibo’s, distinctly different from each other.

Lu Cheng read them carefully and said: ”Even though some parts are hard to understand, we must respect Director Huang’s expertise.”

”Chen Fang, take a trip out, I’ll cover your shift.”

”Take some fruit to the internal medicine, surgical wards, and emergency room, just say it’s from me.”

Chen Fang had no doubts: ”Okay, I’ll go right away.”

Chen Fang took a few steps away, then turned back to ask: ”Should I ask my supplier to deliver them? I have contacts on several suppliers’ WeChats, there’d be no shortage, and the presentation would look better if I ask.”

Lu Cheng was a bit surprised: ”That’s even better!”

Chen Fang laughed and immediately sent a voice message: ”Hey, Auntie, send some fruit platters to my place, pick the ones that taste good and look nice...”

”Uh-huh, it’s for personal use. I’m giving them away.”

Lu Cheng: ”...”

Well, Chen Fang was taking care of family business, and in a way, managed to get more done with money.

As Chen Fang made the call, two names silently entered Lu Cheng’s mind.

Huang Haibo, Yao Xin.

These two were seniors who Lu Cheng rarely interacted with normally, but when things got tricky, they were the first to stand behind Lu Cheng and offer guidance.

Adding flowers to a brocade is not as valuable as providing charcoal in the snow.

Lu Cheng knew that up until now, he was relatively confident in having secured a firm standing at State People’s Hospital.

No one would see him as a newbie, a temp, or a pushover.

Director Wu Xiang of the trauma surgery department was another elder Lu Cheng remembered well.

This was an elder with sentiments, age, and ideas.

...

After finishing the call, Chen Fang, with some apprehension, took the initiative to say: ”Brother Lu, maybe I should deliver the fruit platters this time since I often do it, it wouldn’t be out of place.”

”Director Huang would surely understand what it means, we are a team after all.”

Lu Cheng thought for a moment, then suddenly asked: ”What’s the price of the fruit platters from your aunt? If it’s good, maybe we could reward ourselves a bit too?”

Chen Fang replied naturally: ”I’ve already sent the message. My third uncle will deliver the ones for us; he actually deals in wholesale fruit sourcing.”

”The fruits are fresh, cheaper, and in larger quantity, but the presentation is a bit rough, not as pretty on the dish.”

One aunt, one third uncle.

Is Chen Fang’s family in the fruit wholesale business dynasty!

Just then, Zhang Zixu, instructing a patient as he approached: ”Yes, go to the nurse station for a tetanus shot, it’s absolutely essential.”

”Don’t skip it, I’ve already issued the medical order, just go over and scan it for payment on site.”

After speaking, Zhang Zixu removed his blue surgical cap, revealing a buzz cut. His already somewhat goofy look became even more endearing as he grinned: ”Teacher Chen, Director Lu.”

”Do you guys drink coffee? I have a few vouchers here...”

Although not holding a master’s degree or being officially employed by the hospital, Zhang Zixu was more socially adept than Liu Nongqiu and Du Hua’an, commonly known as having high emotional intelligence.

Lu Cheng said: ”We’ve already ordered, and we’ve ordered one for you as well. What’s your usual favorite?”

”I don’t know if it’s correct.”

Zhang Zixu, no match for the likes of experienced Lu Cheng, blurted out: ”Mascarpone Cheese Latte, I’m okay with it, Director Lu.”

”What about you?” Lu Cheng looked at Chen Fang.

Chen Fang, being much more experienced, watched as Zhang Zixu got tricked and didn’t expose it: ”I have a broad palate, whatever you order, Director Lu, I’ll drink.”

”Okay, I’ll order first!”

”Zhang Zixu, take my laptop down, and I’ll send you a few of my treasured study notes and teaching videos, they can save you a lot of detours.”

”Right now, you need to primarily improve your basic skills, and there are more precise approaches to mastering these basics.” Lu Cheng said.

”Thank you, Director Lu.” Zhang Zixu quickly dashed to the locker in the break room.

Chen Fang also cast an expectant look.

Lu Cheng sighed: ”Brother Chen, at your level now, there are no other shortcuts, you can only grind and practice hard.”

Chen Fang was somewhat talented, with various basic skills all at a specialization level, making it difficult to improve significantly through mere guidance.

At this timely moment, Director Wu Xiang of the trauma surgery department appeared from the corner with his hands behind his back...
