System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

April in Han City is like a misty Jiangnan.

Zhongnan Hospital by Twin Lakes is particularly so; with no scorching sun, the mist rises, and the hidden, blurry view is the best visual trait.

Zhongnan Hospital has its own dedicated ’skills training room’ for clinical practice. Although the orthopedic inpatient building is separate from the medical building, the orthopedic ’skills training room’ is still integrated within the main skills training floor.

At ten in the morning, the east sun shines bright but begrudges shedding a single ray, leaving the training room fully illuminated by its white lights.

Hu Cong set up a tripod and camera in a corner of the orthopedic lab, adjusted the recording angle, and then turned around.

”Lu Cheng, my mentor is quite busy and can’t come himself. He asked me to record a video and send it to him; it’s basically the same thing.”

”Our hospital’s damaged animal models are self-produced, and I have a lot of practice quotas every month, feel free to use them.”

”No charge for you.” Hu Cong, Lu Cheng’s classmate and big dorm roommate, was very accommodating.

The formal surgery and operational training for limb preservation surgery require an assistant. After stepping back from the camera, Hu Cong didn’t idle, donning gloves and approaching the operating table to stand opposite Lu Cheng, eagerly volunteering as an assistant.

”Isn’t it a bit embarrassing?”

”I am already working now, and the hospital reimburses for surgery practice outside.” Lu Cheng responded seriously.

Hu Cong pointed at the practice area: ”Hospital reimbursement is hospital reimbursement, friendship is friendship. With so many in our class ending up in orthopedics, it’s a kind of fate.”

”It’s just a few rabbits’ business, no need to be so rigid.”

”Let’s start.”

”Of course, don’t expect me to go easy on you. On the contrary, I’ll be stricter with you than others.”

”If others embarrass themselves, it only affects their supervisor’s reputation, but if you mess up, it affects our hospital’s face.”

Hu Cong has always been an interesting person; during his undergraduate, single since birth, his quirks were on display to all.

If not for being roommates, Hu Cong would barely notice that Lu Cheng was equally interesting, except Lu Cheng invested his humor and thoughts into love relationships.

How did Hu Cong discover this?

In Hu Cong’s cohort, there were twelve small clinical medicine classes, totaling three hundred and nine people, roughly twenty per class.

Lu Cheng didn’t spend much time reading, yet his exam scores were consistently in the top four of his class.

This was top five in Han City University’s small class, not primary or junior high class top five.

Bear in mind, at Han City University’s medical branch, the top few scores were incredibly close...

”Congye, have you got into the habit of checking the earphone battery now?” Lu Cheng suddenly asked.

Hu Cong’s older face instantly blushed with a soft red.

During his undergraduate years, although single, he was a normal adult male, occasionally listening to teachers like ”Teacher Cang, Teacher Bo” before sleep...

One night, his Bluetooth earphones ran out of battery, yet the teachers’ ”instructions” went on, loud and engaging, awakening everyone in the three adjoining dorm rooms.

From then on, Hu Cong gained instant fame, forever dubbed ’Brother Self-Control’ and ’Congye’.

Of course, only eleven people total in the dorm, excluding Hu Cong himself, moving on after graduation, so hardly anyone mentions it now.

The only classmate still in the hospital is in frequent haste, barely mentioning these matters.

”Now I live alone.” Hu Cong replied calmly, his eyes darting among Lu Cheng’s specific actions.

Those with some reading talent usually have a mild skill of multitasking, such as conversing while operating without disruption.

Hu Cong was among the best at multitasking; he might even be thinking about the teachers’ postures on the side.

Lu Cheng continued his operation: ”Still no girlfriend?”

”You haven’t really become a monk, have you?”

Hu Cong was a quirky fellow, having spent many summer breaks at temples and Taoist monasteries for ’mindfulness’; these playful acts were something Lu Cheng wouldn’t even dare imagine.

Aside from not seeing Hu Cong get a girlfriend, he didn’t seem to learn much from the temples either.

”The fire in the incision is slightly off, and the local detail handling in the debridement isn’t sufficient, yet it’s barely adequate.”

Hu Cong initially assessed Lu Cheng’s basic skills: ”Haven’t met the right one, nor do I want to toy with romance like some veteran in our group, so I’d rather stay single.”

”Thinking back, I believe Brother Lu’s awareness surpasses mine.”

”Youthful ignorance is the best age to enjoy love.”

”In terms of physical strength and energy, they’re at their peak.”

Lu Cheng’s movements paused slightly, he looked up stunned: ”What do you mean by physical strength and energy? You’re not saying what I think you’re saying.”

Hu Cong wore a mask, his gaze plaintive: ”I mean literally, hey, does it have to be interpreted that way?”

Lu Cheng realized he wasn’t being innocent.

Indeed, physical strength and energy are truly formidable in youth.

If Lu Cheng were to travel by train for over ten hours now, he could endure; however, he’d find it not cost-effective in time, hence wouldn’t choose that.

Conversely, during university, without academic, financial, or objective pressures, Lu Cheng frequently traveled to Shanghai by train.

Whether he ended up eating or not, looking back from his current age, requires no explanations.

”My basic skills are probably weaker than yours.” Lu Cheng nodded, refocusing on professionalism.
