System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

”In the evening, the specialist doctors are all off duty, and our workload at the trauma center might increase.”

Liu Nongqiu quickly nodded, lowering his head to start eating.

At this moment, Lu Cheng’s phone rang, the caller ID showed it was Xiang Kai from the emergency surgery team in the resuscitation room. Lu Cheng answered: ”Xiang Kai.”

”Hey, Brother Lu, here’s the situation. I’m on duty in the resuscitation room and we’ve got a case of lower limb crush injury.”

”The trauma surgery department is asking if you’d like to take it.” Xiang Kai sounded quite cheerful.

”Crush injury? Our trauma center never said we would take such cases.” Lu Cheng’s brows furrowed instantly.

”Dr. Chen from trauma surgery mentioned, after all, it’s just an amputation, and the trauma center can handle amputations too. Brother Lu, you’re from trauma surgery, so performing this shouldn’t be difficult.” Xiang Kai replied.

”The trauma center does not measure ’amputation rate.’

Lu Cheng’s eyes rolled two circles: ”But managing a patient post-amputation is quite troublesome. Our trauma center is also an emergency unit; not all cases should be thrown at us, right?”

Xiang Kai said: ”Brother Lu, Chen Hedong from trauma surgery is quite familiar with me, and I actually think what he said makes sense.”

”The trauma center is newly established and lacks variety in cases. Amputation for crush injuries is simple, and it’s also considered part of the workload.”

”Moreover, since it’s not calculated as ’amputation rate,’ it can be seen as killing two birds with one stone.”

Training the trauma center in amputation as such a terminal procedure increases surgical volume, which indeed seems like a win-win situation.

Lu Cheng gritted his teeth: ”If they want us to handle crush injuries, they should’ve told us earlier so we could prepare.”

”Right now I can’t take it; I won’t accept it. Let trauma surgery find a way themselves!” Lu Cheng refused clearly.

”Alright, Brother Lu, actually Dong-ge was really meaning to ask if you could occasionally lend a hand? So their department’s amputation count can be slightly reduced.”

”And it would help with their numbers.” Xiang Kai seemed to have had many discussions with Chen Hedong from trauma surgery, choosing to settle for the next best option.

Lu Cheng ended the call one-sidedly: ”We’ll see.”

Even though Lu Cheng didn’t use the speakerphone, Dai Linfang sat close enough to catch the gist of it: ”I actually think Xiang Kai and Chen Hedong’s suggestion makes sense. Our trauma center calculates only mortality rate.”

”No matter where the amputation occurs, helping trauma surgery with their numbers could also alleviate their pressure.”

”The entry threshold for limb preservation surgery for crush injuries is quite high; not everyone can learn it easily.”

Dai Linfang had researched crush injuries and knew that currently, Zhongnan Hospital in Han City is doing well in limb preservation surgery for crush injuries.

There are many good things in the world; it’s not a given that one can learn them.

Lu Cheng nodded, agreeing with Dai Linfang’s viewpoint: ”Actually, thinking of it from another perspective, when I was in the trauma center, I was also troubled by the hospital’s amputation rate limitations.”

”If trauma surgery had mentioned it earlier, my run last month would’ve been to Zhongnan Hospital, not Huaxi.”

”Being suddenly hit with this, unprepared as I am.”

Everyone in the hospital is trying to get by; the pressures aren’t small for anyone. The suggestion wasn’t to bully Lu Cheng, but genuinely to find a way that works for both sides.

”Do you want to learn limb preservation surgery for crush injuries?” Dai Linfang asked, slightly surprised.

”But with your current technical skills, you’ve reached the entry threshold.”

Lu Cheng said: ”It’s not that I want to learn; it’s just in this situation, if I don’t learn, who will handle this?”

”Let me think of a solution.”

”Whether it’s to earn more money or to prevent patients from becoming disabled due to amputation, it’s worth considering a solution.”

Lu Cheng first thought about the reality of income while considering patient needs.

An amputation operation costs three thousand, which is affordable for the patient too, but anyone sane wouldn’t willingly save this money.

Missing a leg or even just a foot drastically impacts quality of life.

Limb preservation surgery for crush injuries starts at least ten to twenty thousand; despite the difference being several times, anyone would choose preservation over amputation.

”How will you devise a solution?” Dai Linfang asked.

Lu Cheng gave Dai Linfang a look and laughed: ”Brother Dai, are you playing tricks on me?”

”While it’s your freedom to like Xie Yuan’an, in my view, she’s also one of my networking resources. I’m thinking of asking her to invite a trauma surgery expert from Union Hospital to teach for a period.”

Technical entries need to appear first before skill points can be used to enhance them.

The entry for limb preservation surgery for crush injuries hasn’t appeared on the panel; it belongs to newly developed techniques.

With existing techniques, Lu Cheng wouldn’t be so aloof as to insist on creating his own before learning.

Dai Linfang didn’t doubt the hospital would be willing to fund this, but will Union Hospital send someone over: ”Are you sure you can invite someone?”

”I’ll try Union Hospital first; if that doesn’t work, I’ll approach Zhongnan Hospital.”

”I trained there before and know classmates from the same cohort. If I can’t invite anyone, I can at least get a standard teaching video.”

During his training period, Lu Cheng had a master’s and professional degree cohort. Their relationships aren’t exemplary but cordial—polite and respectful when meeting again.

Though now pursuing different paths, the camaraderie from shared struggles remains reliable.

”Give it a try. I think it’s worth trying.” Dai Linfang nodded.

Lu Cheng quickly finished his meal and immediately sent a message to Xie Yuan’an.

Xie Yuan’an, presumably occupied with follow-up for a tendon suturing project, didn’t reply immediately but did so after half an hour.

Xie Yuan’an provided a direct answer: ”Lu Cheng, I asked my dad around; none of our hospital’s associate professors wish to travel at the moment.”

”Mainly because it crosses provinces, making the procedures and paperwork complicated.”

”However, Professor Qi from trauma surgery mentioned that if you’re willing to come to Han City to study, he can set up a special advanced class for you alone, free of charge.”

In the eyes of Professor Xie Xiao and Research Associate Xie Yuan’an, Lu Cheng is already seen as half a Union staffer, with Xiangzhou People’s Hospital merely as his stepping stone to associate professorship.

The current investment in Lu Cheng is undoubtedly worthwhile.

As long as Mu Nanshu doesn’t raise the topic of resignation, this foundation won’t crumble.

”The hospital has just talked to me about this. I’m currently in the trauma center, so there’s no time to go out.”

”No problem, I’ll think of other solutions. Thank you for your help.” Lu Cheng responded.

Xie Yuan’an: ”Thank you? Lu Cheng, are you serious?”

Professor Xie Xiao and Research Associate Xie Yuan’an are currently in the same major research group as Lu Cheng, part of a united front.

Lu Cheng chuckled lightly: ”Well, it’s still troublesome for you.”

After Xie Yuan’an’s conversation ended, Lu Cheng opened his contact list, finding Hu Cong, who studied through undergraduate to postdoctoral studies at Zhongnan Hospital before staying on.

Lu Cheng reached out: ”Brother Hu, are you busy? It’s Lu Cheng; do you remember me?”

”Brother Lu... Good evening, I’m in a clinic appointment.” Hu Cong was Lu Cheng’s classmate.

The difference is, Hu Cong is exceptionally academically gifted, excelling without needing to take postgraduate exams, directly guaranteed—a postgraduate guaranteed candidate.

Later, Hu Cong followed Lan Hualuo through to his doctorate, climbing the ladder all the way!

However, when Hu Cong was guaranteed for postgraduate studies, Lan Hualuo wasn’t yet a master’s advisor, only a chief resident. During his master’s, he followed another professor in trauma surgery.

Han City University’s medical department dormitory housed 11 people per room, with two forming a larger dormitory: ”Brother Hu, here’s the thing...”

”Is it convenient?”

”It is convenient. Professor Lan mentioned that these teaching videos are open; joining in-house advanced classes requires fees.”

”Since you’re a student of our hospital and school, and also my classmate, I’ll pass you some exclusive insights.”

”Brother Lu, you should be nearing associate professorship now, right?” Hu Cong asked.

During his undergraduate studies, Lu Cheng was diligent yet frivolous. Aside from that intense year of preparation for postgraduate exams, most of his time was spent ’dating’!

During training, Lu Cheng’s level lagged behind Hu Cong’s, but not enough for Hu Cong to look down on him arrogantly; their rapport remained decent.

”Almost there, but I don’t know if I’ll smoothly be promoted.”

”Brother Hu, thank you. Next time I’m in Han City, I’ll definitely treat you to drinks,” Lu Cheng replied promptly.

”The link and password have been given to you. After retrieving, don’t pass it along lightly.”

”Although it’s open, during the previous opening, quite a few messes occurred, leading to people learning improperly... My master’s advice is not to pass it lightly and cause harm...”

Learning techniques is a private matter, lacking genuine knowledge becomes a hazard.

”Rest assured, Brother Hu, I won’t pass it along lightly...”

After Lu Cheng clicked to save, he began downloading. With membership, the download speed wasn’t too slow.

The teaching videos that Hu Cong provided to Lu Cheng were truly exclusive insights, broken down thoroughly with clear learning steps…
