System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

People who struggle academically don’t know the specific difficulties of the top students solving complex problems, the difficulty of setting up equations, or the apparent length of symbols, right?

Half an hour... one hour... an hour and a half. Lu Cheng is performing wound cleaning.

The time for the tourniquet is up.

Lu Cheng takes a break, and then he has to continue preparing for more wound cleaning.

Fifteen minutes later, the tourniquet is applied again.

Another half an hour, one hour, an hour and a half pass by as Lu Cheng continues with the wound cleaning.

The time for the tourniquet is up again, and Lu Cheng and Dai Linfang take a break, still preparing to continue the wound cleaning.

If it were an amputation, five operations would have been completed by now.

But with limb preservation surgery, the wound cleaning is still not finished.

If you were to compare the damage, it’s like a rotten, completely decayed piece of wood, but you have to find a way to identify the parts that still have life in them and replant them into soil so they can grow again.

Moreover, the rotten part of this piece of wood is highly toxic, and if not cleaned thoroughly, the part that still has life will die within minutes.

Finally, after reopening the operating table, another hour past.

Lu Cheng announced, ”Director Wu, why don’t you go have a meal first? Dr. Dai and I will continue with the blood circulation reconstruction, and you and Dr. Dai can take turns later?”

Actually, Wu Xiang and Dai Linfang are just manpower, and all three could easily go eat together.

However, because the patient is not under full anesthesia, this cannot be done.

All the surgeons stepping away and leaving the patient in the operating room would be setting up for ”complaint” issues.

”Alright!~” Wu Xiang nodded, still looking like just a tool.

Dai Linfang gave Lu Cheng a glance, with a tinge of fear in his gaze.

The destruction injury is not only in the limbs, there are destruction injuries in the abdomen. Organs can also have destruction injuries.

In general surgery, if the liver is destructed, it’s a waiting game for death.

If the pancreas is destructed, most likely wait for death.

If the spleen is destructed, remove it.

If the intestines are destructed, remove it!

For non-general surgery destruction injuries, they are almost either waiting for death or removal...

Originally, destruction injuries in orthopedics were also about removal.

Until Professor Lan Hualuo from Zhongnan Hospital gave a glimmer of hope.

This glimmer of hope is a miracle in the current medical world; it’s inconceivable to outsiders.

”Gulp, gulp!” Dai Linfang swallowed a few times, his Adam’s apple bobbing: ”Tired?”

Lu Cheng seized the moment to massage his hands, relaxing his hand tendons and wrist joints while rolling his eyes: ”If anyone dares say they’re not tired, I’ll give them a cut.”

”Doctor, is it not done yet?” The woman is still anxious.

Lu Cheng replied: ”Your situation is very complex, the destruction injury is no joke!~ It must be handled with caution, we have to perform thorough wound cleaning.”

”If the surgery was truly easy, why would we need to talk so much before the operation?”

”Hmm... thank you for your hard work.” The woman hasn’t slept and knows Lu Cheng and others haven’t had a meal.

”Let’s continue for a while more, when Director Wu returns, you can go eat.” Lu Cheng lowered his head, taking a brief rest but not wanting to waste too much time.

Dai Linfang turned back into manpower.

Then, Dai Linfang watched as Lu Cheng, after completing wound cleaning, began the reconstruction of the soft tissues amid the chaos.

This was based on the various suturing skills in orthopedics and joint reconstruction, rebuilding the balance of the patient’s soft tissues.

Of course, Dai Linfang couldn’t see the details clearly, so he lumped vascular and circulatory system reconstruction, and nerve reconstruction, into it as well.

Finally, Dai Linfang found something he could do: ”Why don’t you mark the places where vasculature and nerves need to be sutured?”

Dai Linfang meant that when Lu Cheng went for a meal, he could help out a bit, easing some of Lu Cheng’s pressure.

”You can only deal with nerves, this blood circulation reconstruction isn’t just simple vasculature suturing.”

”Moreover, you can only handle major nerves, the reconstruction of the smaller nerves isn’t within your grasp...” Lu Cheng detailedly briefed him.

Dai Linfang had studied vascular and nerve suturing techniques, but suturing techniques and vascular and nerve reconstructions are two entirely different things.

”Alright!~” Dai Linfang nodded in agreement.

Time flowed like water, and another full three hours passed.

All in all, from the time the patient entered the operating room until now, a full seven hours have passed.

This time would be enough for three surgeons to complete the dissection of a cadaver.

Yet, it’s still not enough for Lu Cheng and the others to complete the ”preservation of foot” operation as part of limb preservation surgery, they’re just nearing the end.

Lu Cheng held a syringe needle in his left hand, gently piercing the skin on multiple parts of the patient’s foot.

This technique was even more vicious than those seen in TV dramas.

Moreover, every puncture drew blood.

The patient in an anesthetized state would naturally not feel pain, and compared to incision and wound areas, this kind of pain wouldn’t be felt even post-anesthesia.

Or to put it this way, given that the patient has destruction injury, feeling pain post-surgery would be a relief.

Wherever Lu Cheng pricked, blood trickled shyly like a bashful little girl, slowly emerging, half-concealed, timid and shamed.

But this scene, to Lu Cheng, was like being bathed in spring breezes.

Behind the mask, his mouth stretched into a grin, as cheerful as ”Xiong Er” laughing.

This scene, to Dai Linfang, was unbelievable, and hard to comprehend.

This scene, to Wu Xiang, meant something else entirely.

The reason destruction injuries can’t preserve limbs is fundamentally because blood circulation reconstruction is extremely challenging.

In places without circulation, necrosis is inevitable, not preserving the limb would preserve the patient’s death, which contradicts the basic principles of medicine.
