System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

Dr. Dai Linfang politely asked, ”So, regardless of personnel changes, everything that can be done now in the rescue and operating rooms will still be possible in the future?”

”Can work reports also continue to be written?”

These words immediately made Xiang Kun’s brows furrow.

To be honest, he hadn’t really thought through this aspect deeply. His current intention was just to first place Dong Chang in this position.

Dr. Dai continued, ”Currently, most surgeries in the emergency surgical room are led by Director Tian and Director Zhu Yuanzhou.”

”If Director Tian truly goes to the Trauma Center, then who will be responsible for these routine surgeries?”

”Emergency surgery can’t just be about transferring patients, right?”

Dr. Dai spoke, and Dong Chang remained silent.

Although he specialized in general surgery, he had always worked in the gastrointestinal surgery department. Emergency surgery rarely involved gastrointestinal procedures.

The rest, he could learn over time, but it would require a significant investment of time.

”My view is that if Tian Zhiliang is removed from emergency surgery, and our task volume drastically decreases, who will review and be responsible for the reports then?”

Under the hospital’s new performance model, both work volume and task volume are assessment criteria, directly affecting everyone’s income. It will impact more than just Tian Zhiliang.

Xiang Kun said, ”Dr. Dai, are you suggesting that Director Tian’s position should remain unchanged for now?”

Dai Linfang responded, ”After Director Xiao left the emergency department, our workload in emergency surgery dropped by nearly a sixth.”

”The surgical techniques Director Xiao could perform are irreplaceable!”

”Of course, if hospital leadership can find a suitable replacement for Director Tian, then that would be seamless. ”

”Otherwise, I feel I need to apply for a transfer. I can’t stay in emergency surgery under these conditions,” Dai Linfang said with a subtly intriguing smile.

The position of deputy director in emergency surgery was acquired without dispute.

A doctoral degree, approved by the dean and agreed upon by the emergency department head, with agreement from the leaders of surgical management, inherently represented Dai Linfang as rather unique.

Dai Linfang continued, ”The Trauma Center is newly reestablished, everything is starting over. There’s no established standard.”

”I do think a better option is for the original emergency team to remain unchanged, and for everyone from the Trauma Center to be reassigned or apply.”

”This would allow the patient load and workload in emergency surgery to remain unchanged, and for the Trauma Center to be smoothly built.”

”It would also allow Director Dong to showcase his talents.”

Dai Linfang first unveiled the current obscure situation.

Xiang Kun wasn’t concerned about if, once Dong Chang took the position, subordinates would comply superficially but secretly resist. That type of person might exist in State People’s Hospital, but not many.

Joking with patients or work attitudes happens once and it’s ruinous; no one is that foolish.

However, he only considered Tian Zhiliang working with Lu Cheng at the Trauma Center, without considering the impact their departure would have on the operating room’s workload.

When emergency cases aren’t fatal, but the mortality rate for sub-emergency cases rises, then things become interesting.

”Dr. Lu, do you have any good suggestions?” Xiang Kun asked, turning to Lu Cheng.

Lu Cheng shook his head, smiling modestly: ”Dean Xiang, I’m not a leader, I don’t understand administrative arrangements, nor have I ever been a leader, so I won’t interfere where I’m not knowledgeable!”

Lu Cheng’s words were low-key and humble, yet carried a sharp tone.

And who are you, Xiang Kun, with purely an administrative background, meddling in emergency department personnel arrangements?

Xiang Kun, being clever, said, ”Dr. Lu, actually, it’s apparent that both Director Dong and Director Tian highly value you, Dr. Lu.”

”As the saying goes, under great fame, there are no ordinary people. Your suggestions are significant too.”

”For example, could we possibly adjust things like this?”

”Director Tian remains in his position, with Director Dong and Dr. Lu going to the Trauma Center?” Xiang Kun twisted the topic around, pulling the situation back.

Retreating in order to advance, returning to the core.

Lu Cheng shook his head, expression solemn: ”I don’t know. I’m just someone who works with technology plainly, reasoning simply and bluntly.”

”If a teacher more capable than me is to lead, I have no objections.”

Lu Cheng did not utter another word, but everyone understood what he meant; a random, incompetent person leading? I would simply say, ’go to hell’ or something of that sort.

Lu Cheng spoke so directly in such a situation, taking some by surprise.

Having been addressed, Dong Chang’s face flushed red: ”Who do you think you are? Do you believe the hospital would cease to operate normally without you?”

Lu Cheng sincerely replied, ”No, I’ve never thought like that.”

”I respect and admire countless teachers.”

”But there are also a few teachers I do not respect or admire. Even so, I continue to work, eat, sleep, drink, and socialize normally.”

”The hospital would function even without me, and I could eat and drink without those few people. Isn’t that a reasonable logic?”

From the moment Dong Chang came through the door, not regarding Lu Cheng as a person, from that point, Lu Cheng did not count him as one, and there was no need to politely accommodate him.

Lu Cheng demonstrated logic as he used the method of ’an eye for an eye,’ with considerable aggression.

Dong Chang’s face turned even redder, but he dared not act. Lu Cheng was joyful; if Dong Chang sulked here, he would be foolish.

It would only make people laugh, not make them think he saved face.

Everyone has teachers they like or dislike, respect or don’t respect.

But what exactly can one do about those teachers they don’t respect?

They are just people outside one’s circle.

Xiang Kun took a deep breath: ”Dr. Lu, saying this way, you seem to have a large objection to this personnel arrangement by the hospital leadership?”

Lu Cheng hurriedly shook his head: ”Dean Xiang, please don’t place a laurel upon me nor set any conversational traps for me.”

”Hospital leadership is concerned with major matters, the big picture. I’m merely an individual; personal thoughts don’t affect the larger scheme.”

”I am willing to comply with the arrangements of the hospital leadership!”

Xiang Kun, seizing the moment, made his stand clear: ”So given this, in this meeting...”

Yao Xin interrupted: ”Dean Xiang, this matter still needs further discussion.”

”Didn’t Lu Cheng say he agreed with the leadership’s arrangement? Isn’t the agenda then concluded?” Xiang Kun argued.

Yao Xin gave a detached smile: ”Then will Director Xiang be signing the report, responsible for all subsequent consequences?”

”If Dean Xiang dares to sign it and submit the report, I won’t say another word!” Yao Xin’s smile was a bit cold.

Xiang Kun immediately fell silent.

The meeting ended, not happily.

...

After the meeting, Dong Chang was somewhat irritated, searching out Lu Cheng, he lowered his voice as he faced Lu Cheng: ”Lu Cheng, is there some grudge between us that makes you target me time and again?”

Lu Cheng looked up slightly: ”Director Dong, I’m not targeting you, I’m just a surgeon. I only believe in competence.”

Dong Chang’s voice turned somewhat absurd: ”So, should those lacking skills not live? Are those of insufficient talent guilty for even breathing?”

”By what right?”

Lu Cheng’s response was calm: ”Because the industry we’re in is about risking lives!”

”No one’s life is more valuable than another’s.”

”The depth of skill is the only measure for the high or low cost of trial and error.”

”And not resorting to any tactics.”

Lu Cheng took a deep breath: ”Moreover, Director Dong, your tactics are simply disgusting.”

”Thus, I won’t adhere to any rules with you!”

Witnessing this, Dai Linfang, who understood Lu Cheng’s meaning, added a sharp remark: ”Exactly, finding someone’s family could be understandable, but what’s the point in finding someone’s girlfriend’s family?”

Hearing Dai Linfang’s words, even Xiang Kun’s expression changed instantly.

In the world, the principle of not involving spouses and children in grievances is upheld. Within the system, even foes at most use others’ weaknesses, personal morals, or violations against them.

Dong Chang even visited Lu Cheng’s girlfriend’s family, which was particularly egregious.

After changing moods for a while, Xiang Kun coughed, responding formally: ”Director Dong, weren’t you going to report to me?”

”Let’s go.”

Dong Chang gave Lu Cheng a resentful glance and left gloomily.

He could sense Lu Cheng’s utter lack of fear. He had no further tactics to employ.

Dong Chang simply could not understand why Lu Cheng dared to be so defiant, wasn’t he afraid of his abilities falling short?
