System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

The caller was Yao Xin, who chuckled and said, ”Your rhetorical question makes it hard for me to respond.”

”To sum it up, he wants you to be a bit more understanding and offer you something in return that he can provide.”

Upon hearing this, Lu Cheng realized that the person making the request was still at Yao Xin’s home, and Yao Xin didn’t want to be too explicit: ”Dean Yao, if other instructors can uphold the Trauma Center, naturally it’s not my turn to make a fool of myself.”

”I’m still young and can afford to wait.”

Yao Xin said, ”I see, well, now I know.”

——

In the Century Shanshui District, after Yao Xin hung up the phone, the person sitting across from him quickly asked, ”Dean Yao, what did Lu Cheng say?”

Yao Xin’s expression was slightly embarrassed: ”Lu Cheng didn’t agree.”

”He said that if others go to the Trauma Center, he can continue to maintain his current position.”

Dong Chang’s face suddenly changed, but he still asked shamelessly, ”Isn’t Lu Cheng too young and didn’t quite understand what you meant?”

”Dean Yao, you also seemed a bit unclear... Do you want to say it again?”

Yao Xin crossed his legs, his tone pale and distant: ”Dong Chang, these things you mentioned, Lu Cheng doesn’t lack them, and what he wants, you can’t give.”

Dong Chang was stunned, retreated slightly, his eyes bulging: ”Dean Yao, is this still not enough to satisfy him?”

Yao Xin said, ”The problem is, he doesn’t need them...”

”To my knowledge, professors from both Xiangya Second Hospital and Xiangya Hospital have kindly invited him several times, only to be refused by Lu Cheng.”

”And yet, they haven’t gotten angry.”

Hearing Yao Xin emphasize the word ’not angry,’ Dong Chang’s eyes rolled as he swallowed down various emotions with a gulp and then took his leave.

Both purely technical circles and purely administrative circles have their own operating rules, and Dong Chang, only in a ’half-mixed circle,’ wouldn’t dare to easily break these rules.

...

After returning home with Mu Nanshu, Mu Nanshu went into the study while Lu Cheng sat in the living room, casually flipping through books.

Meanwhile, he took notes: ”Since it’s the Trauma Center, non-trauma related diseases and surgeries like appendicitis, cholecystitis, and pancreatitis in acute abdomen cases can be excluded.”

”Surgeries such as arterial dissection won’t be sent to the Trauma Center either.”

”More cases to be dealt with include limb trauma, vascular rupture, traumatic hematoma, parenchymal organ contusion, intestinal rupture, etc.”

”Intracranial hematomas still belong to neurosurgery!”

”...”

After roughly sorting out the possible cases to be encountered at the Trauma Center, Lu Cheng turned back a few pages in the notebook.

Death Case Records (Xiangzhou): Intraperitoneal hematoma, retroperitoneal hematoma, liver rupture, splenic rupture, pancreatic rupture, extensive soft tissue contusion, crush injury…

These cases were ones that Lu Cheng had personally taken on but couldn’t get into the operating room.

The highest mortality rates were intraperitoneal hematoma and retroperitoneal hematoma, liver rupture.

Lu Cheng’s current skills, combined with the ’Blind Hemostasis Skill,’ in emergency treatment, are indeed stronger than many associate chief physicians or chief physicians in most city-level hospitals, but it’s not an invincible stance either.

There are plenty of doctors nationwide with abilities comparable to Lu Cheng’s current level.

Lu Cheng has been able to maneuver in front of professors like Zhong Junyun by relying on skill refinement and research breakthroughs.

Skill refinement and research breakthroughs focus on outthinking the competition in unconventional ways, enabling a singular ability to overtake the competition, for instance, Lu Cheng achieves higher quality in hemostasis of tendons, vessels, and nerves than others.

Therefore, the basic proficiency in Hemostasis Technique still needs to be improved, it’s still not enough—

[Current Skill Points Balance: 105 points.]

[Hemostasis Technique (Expert 0/200) (Skill Points -20), guidance effective, opportunities aligned, Hemostasis Technique upgraded to Expert Level, Hemostasis Series Skills passively enhanced, see specific display for enhancement details]

[Hemostasis Series Skills: Manual Hemostasis Skill (Specialization 20/20) (+3), Instrumental Hemostasis Skill (Specialization 18/20) (+2), Pressure Hemostasis Skill (Specialization 14/20) (+11), Electric Coagulation Hemostasis Skill (Specialization 16/20) (+4), Theoretical Hemostasis Skill (Specialization 1/20) (+31) (New)]

”Theoretical Hemostasis Skill?” Seeing the newly emerged entry, Lu Cheng felt a stir within.

After carefully studying the knowledge brought by this entry, Lu Cheng came to realize.

Theoretical Hemostasis Skill is not a traditional hemostasis technique, but rather a process of integrating all applicable technologies encountered during a bleeding incident to achieve hemostasis.

There is no specific constant, no specific application object.

With not many skill points left, Lu Cheng temporarily set it aside for future use.

...

March 10, in the afternoon, Lu Cheng’s evening shift rotation in the ward!

The evening shift doesn’t require writing medical records; after making rounds to check the rooms, Lu Cheng made minor adjustments to the medical advice for inpatient patients, upgraded pain medication for those experiencing significant pain, and then could take a temporary rest, waiting for inpatients to transfer over.

As expected.

Dai Linfang and Tian Zhiliang walked in together from the office door.

Tian Zhiliang was humbly asking for advice: ”Dr. Dai, the case we just handled, was it managed well?”

Dai Linfang spoke calmly: ”Managing a ruptured spleen is fairly routine. But when I was with my mentor before, I didn’t have much exposure to this.”

”Mostly, the attending and resident doctors handled these emergencies. Whether good or not, that’s about it.”

”Director Song, you called me so I came.”

”Brother Lu!” Dai Linfang greeted Lu Cheng upon seeing him.

Dai Linfang was assigned to the Emergency Department this month as one of the deputy directors of surgery.

Even with a doctoral degree, he was just promoted to attending physician, having just joined the Emergency Department, with very limited surgical authorization, mostly following the two deputy attending physicians.
