System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

”What would you do if you encountered a ruptured liver? What if you faced an abdominal destroy injury or a crush injury? What if you encountered...”

Chen Song listed many types of diseases for Lu Cheng.

”Lu Cheng, this is no joke. There are no jokes in clinical practice. When a patient arrives, and you’re in that position, you can’t shirk responsibility!”

”Clinical practice isn’t a game you can play by choosing whichever direction you like.” Chen Song said.

”I can learn.” Lu Cheng replied.

Chen Song’s voice was icy cold: ”No one tolerates a trauma center doctor slowly learning techniques, neither the patients nor the leaders will allow it!”

”In our hospital, if there isn’t a professor leading the team, the trauma center will dissolve and be shut down by the next day!”

”However, in a specialized department, even without tall individuals, the associate chief physician can reluctantly lead the team, albeit treating fewer types of diseases.”

Lu Cheng laughed: ”Isn’t that so? Plus we have professors from the Provincial People’s Hospital to oversee and provide guidance.”

”Your reasoning is untenable. They’ve only been here a few months, how much can you learn in those months?” Chen Song had a look as if Lu Cheng was making a fool out of him.

Lu Cheng squinted, his voice ethereal: ”Teacher Chen, didn’t you say that once you understand one thing, you can understand many things?”

”Basic skills can elevate a person’s absolute level.”

”Surgical techniques are just the relative level of a surgeon.”

Lu Cheng was referring to his basic skills reaching level 4, allowing him to forcibly enhance a series of surgical skills.

This is not an unspoken secret in teaching hospitals but is fundamental to their educational system.

Teaching hospitals prioritize the learning of fundamental skills, all students work on their basics because once these are proficient, learning specialized skills becomes very, very fast.

For comparison, it’s like saying a top math genius transitioning to physics would find it not very difficult.

It doesn’t work the other way around.

A math genius can overshadow talents from other science-based fields.

Upon hearing this, Chen Song suddenly realized something and immediately said: ”Come with me! Fatty Tong’s Training Room hasn’t been closed yet.”

Chen Song pulled Lu Cheng to prove a point.

Lu Cheng waved his hand slightly, his body stood still, smiling: ”Teacher Chen, we’ve been together for so long, you know my temperament, no need for proving.”

”I’ll just tell you directly.”

Chen Song knew Lu Cheng had at least reached ’Expert Level’ proficiency in the two most basic and hardest-to-improve skills, Suturing Skill and Hemostasis Technique, though the term was different among Professor Chen Song and his peers.

Last time, after Lu Cheng sent Chen Song a video, Chen Song was devastated, and he shouted in WeChat that Lu Cheng shouldn’t contact him anymore to avoid turning him into a ’socially withdrawn’ like Tong Yuan’an.

Professor Chen Song’s body trembled lightly; after releasing Lu Cheng, even his motion of picking up the cigarette pack was shaky from the sympathetic nervous system’s excessive tension, as if possessed by a Parkinson’s patient.

”Snap,” he lit a cigarette: ”Then tell me.”

”Incision, debridement, suturing, puncture, hemostasis.” Lu Cheng quickly listed five basic skills.

No extra embellishments were added.

Chen Song immediately staggered and couldn’t stand properly, shocked, he leaned on the table with his hand feeling somewhat weak.

”Do you know what you’re talking about?”

”Dad?” Chen Song’s mind was ethereal, even more confused than when shaken afterward.

As a result, Chen Song directly called Lu Cheng a ’wrong title’ that didn’t fit his identity!

Lu Cheng stepped forward and supported Professor Chen Song.

From Dai Linfang, Lu Cheng roughly understood what a genius and an ultimate genius might look like.

In their thirties, possessing two basic skills at the Expert Level was already ”virtually unseen.” At a normal age, achieving Expert Level in two basic skills typically happens in one’s late thirties.

People like this are invariably the treasures and pillars of their specialized departments, such as Chen Song and Tong Yuan’an.

Going further, at the professor level of this age, in their forties, if conditions permit, they might break through one more outside core fundamental skills in their specialization, achieving ’Expert Level’ proficiency in three basic skills.

No one can envision having four or five at once in one person’s body; Dai Linfang never mentioned it, only saying no one would be so nonsensical!

Those with such talent wouldn’t waste time on such things.

Medicine should emphasize specialization, not ’being overly knowledgeable!’

A cook who knows how to fasten screws can be a master at it and also a top chef, but no chef is simultaneously a top chef, top engineer, top technician, top singer, top pilot, and such chaotic identities.

Lu Cheng said: ”Teacher Chen, I’ve only told you this, whether you believe it or find it credible, it’s the truth.”

”Just like the answer I gave Teacher Tong when he asked if I could step back, no, I definitely can’t step back.”

”I’ve studied rather broadly.”

Chen Song’s mouth slightly opened, the cigarette butt fell from his mouth like a plane crash: ”Studying broadly lets you break convention?”

”Hey, isn’t it?”

”Who told you to learn this way?”

Lu Cheng shook his head: ”No one.”

”I!~” Chen Song started pacing in the office!

He swung his arms and moved like a woman preparing for a quarrel.

He stepped with strength, resembling a student practicing marching during military training.

After a while, Chen Song relented: ”Alright, with someone like you, it’s ultimately impossible to reason.”

”If conventional logic could bind someone like you, then the word genius wouldn’t exist.”

”Really?” Chen Song couldn’t believe it, he asked again.

Lu Cheng nodded: ”Teacher Chen, which is why I think, if I now just need to learn some conventional surgeries to a barely sufficient level, it wouldn’t take much time.”

”If I’ve read two million literary works, writing a four-thousand-word essay would be easy.”

”Incision, debridement, suturing, knotting, hemostasis… how flexible can your hands be, how extreme is your precision control?” Chen Song took Lu Cheng’s hand, showing the same greedy look Peng Kun had once had.

”Teacher Chen, there’s no knotting, it’s puncture. Let’s be fair and square.” Lu Cheng retorted.

”Shut up!” Chen Song seriously caressed Lu Cheng’s hand, seeming like a pervert.

In reality, Chen Song’s gaze was unusually sincere, even somewhat eager, earnestly saying: ”You must protect this pair of hands well, absolutely cannot hurt them; they are absolute treasures!!”

”Treasure, indeed.” After regaining his composure, Chen Song’s expression became complex and envious.

Lu Cheng sensed the timing was right, playfully said: ”Teacher Chen, can I still report and discuss with you in the future?”

Initially, you asked me not to send you videos and messages; well, I listened to avoid upsetting you.

Based on my understanding, I’ve made the right choice, so you can’t blame me, can you?

Chen Song’s face turned cautious, hesitated for a moment before slowly nodding: ”Ca-can…”

”Not quite right, in the future? More likely, I’ll be reporting to you.” Chen Song quickly changed his tone, retracting all contempt.

Lu Cheng responded: ”Teacher Chen, you’re too courteous.”

”It’s not courtesy, friendship is friendship, identity is identity, professionalism is professionalism; if I want to improve and surprise Director Xiang and their generation, consulting you would be invaluable.”

”Oh, by the way, since your basic skills are so good, you’ll handle the next surgery entirely, I truly want to see how wonderfully someone with your Inner Strength as a surgeon can perform the operation.”

”No, I want to film it!”

”I want to make a video, make Director Xiang and my teacher turn into versions of me too!!” For some reason, Chen Song suddenly became somewhat playful.

Perhaps Chen Song’s pride and arrogance were merely his facade in front of Lu Cheng; removing the allure and mask, he too was just a young man from the 85-era timeline, an 85-born man.

He was young once, and in some people’s eyes, he still was young and immature.

For example, when interacting with Tong Yuan’an, or in front of his teacher...
