System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

At a time like this, if you go invite Zhong Junyun to dinner and he doesn’t beat you up, that just means you’re physically tough enough.

Xie Yuan’an: ”The main thing is, Professor Zuo isn’t afraid of Professor Zhong. Their levels aren’t exactly the same, but they’re close.”

”Even my dad’s still a bit short.”

”But if later on my dad can really get these Suturing Techniques implemented in hand surgery procedures, he should be able to make another step forward.”

”Xiao Mumu, I’ve got to firmly secure my status as the rich young lady now, so I won’t keep thanking you verbally. I’ll remember it all in my heart.”

Whether it’s vascular Suturing Techniques or nerve Suturing Techniques, even though the current project leader is Xiangya Hospital, the true innovator is Lu Cheng.

At Union Hospital, Lu Cheng is the person who understands Suturing Techniques the best, so if in the future any hospital is more likely to apply these techniques in actual clinical work, the odds are still highest for the hospital where Lu Cheng works.

The first crab went to Xiangya Hospital, that’s certainly very poetic, but Union Hospital’s hand surgery has gotten a whole beach and can pick up more crabs.

”I’m really happy too, but not that happy.” It took Mu Nanshu a full two minutes to type those few words.

”Why? You’re still not satisfied with this version of Lu Cheng?” said Xie Yuan’an.

”It’s not that I’m not satisfied, I just feel a bit sorry for him. Who knows what he’s been through in private?”

Mu Nanshu said, ”I’ve looked into it in depth. In private he doesn’t actually have much research accumulation, hasn’t read that many papers, and hasn’t had that many good teachers leading him.”

”Average accumulation, average vision, average support from mentors.”

”Even if he does have some talent, why him? Just because of that hot-blooded passion of his?”

”What I can feel is the brain-burning pain.”

Xie Yuan’an quickly said, ”Bleh bleh bleh, at a time like this, Xiao Mumu, could you stop feeding us dog food already!!!! So sour.”

Mu Nanshu kept doing her own thing: ”Sister Xie, don’t you get it? All this so-called ’special treatment’ is actually a kind of nirvana.”

”The essence of nirvana is breaking down and restructuring. You may be reborn in the flames, but who can actually withstand the pain of the body or soul collapsing?”

”Back then, after I went abroad, because my hand was injured and I couldn’t stay on the professional track, I shut down into silence. At that time I was terrified, I was scared, I regretted it so much…”

”And the facts proved that no matter how hard I tried, I still couldn’t change the reality: I could no longer continue down the clinical path.”

”So during that period I was really withdrawn, withdrawn to the point of almost losing it. I felt that everything was because of them, so I wanted to go crazy and take revenge no matter what…”

”After that, I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to graduate and that I’d be letting down the money my parents had spent.”

”What could I do?”

”Complain to him, far away back in Hua Country? Would complaining help? No. It would only make him worry more and feel even more powerless.”

”But no matter how hard I tried, I still couldn’t get out of it. Even now, I still haven’t.”

”Sister Xie, tell me: do you think it’s harder to keep staying in clinical work after a hand injury, or for someone like Lu Cheng, as a bachelor’s graduate, as a County Hospital doctor, to get to where he is now?”

Xie Yuan’an was silent for a long time: ”They’re both hard.”

”But the former still has hope, while the latter’s hope is especially faint.”

”Even back then, for the late Wu Mengchao, his mentor was also the late Qiu Fazu.”

Mu Nanshu said, ”So yeah, whether you care about Lu Cheng’s aptitude or anything else, what I see is just this.”

”Maybe what you’re talking and thinking about is one part of Professor Zhong Junyun’s field of vision.”

”But I can’t empathize, because in my field of vision, when Lu Cheng was in Han City and chose Professor Zhong, he did it with absolute, all‑out devotion.”

”Even if he was being morally coerced by that old professor’s posthumous notes, he never wavered and went to choose Zhongnan Hospital.”

Suddenly it dawned on Xie Yuan’an: ”Oh right, after that time, it was actually Lu Cheng who took the initiative to go to Professor Zhong and show what he could do.”

”So in fact it’s not that Professor Zhong couldn’t handle the ’moral coercion’, he just wasn’t willing to spend the effort.”

”As for what happened later?”

Mu Nanshu said, ”For me, and for the sake of getting into Union Hospital, Lu Cheng even turned down invitations from Xiangya Hospital and from Chen Song and Professor Tong Yuan’an at Xiangya Second Hospital.”

”He brushed them off like a scoundrel, weaving lies to deal with them.”

”Back then, Lu Cheng had nothing.”

”From that moment on, I decided that within the scope of what I could do, I wouldn’t let him suffer too many grievances anymore.”

”What he doesn’t understand, I do.”

”What he can’t manage, maybe I can.”

”The people he can’t get in touch with, maybe I can.”

”And those he doesn’t dare take revenge on, maybe I can take revenge for him.”

”Union Hospital is far more than just a hand surgery department!~” Right in front of hand surgery’s own Xie Yuan’an, Mu Nanshu tore off all her disguises and laid everything bare.

Xie Yuan’an fell silent.

She stayed silent for a very, very long time.

Then she sent a voice message: ”My old man says that actually, from the perspectives of Lu Cheng and Professor Zhong, neither of them is wrong.”

Mu Nanshu said, ”I know that too, so it’s not like Professor Zhong really lost out on anything!~”

Xie Yuan’an said, ”You two, seriously, if you weren’t made from the same mold, you wouldn’t have ended up in the same house.”

If she put herself in that position, if she were Lu Cheng’s girlfriend, Xie Yuan’an would never be as open and direct as Mu Nanshu is; that had a lot to do with her own identity.

...

Lu Cheng had just driven home. As he was putting away his shoes at the door, he received a message.

The message was very simple: ”?”

Lu Cheng tossed his shoes into the shoe cabinet: ”Teacher Lu, good evening. You’re still up?”

Lu Mang: ”So you really weren’t going to contact me ever again?”

Lu Cheng felt the skin on his face tightening and pulling.
