System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

Zhou Lü then went out to speak a few words with the patient experiencing joint dislocation.

In fact, most patients are considered the ”vulnerable group” in the hospital, and they generally have strong adherence to medical advice, with only a few exceptions who don’t follow instructions.

The reason doctors frequently encounter them is due to the large number of patients they come into contact with.

A one percent chance means daily encounters.

A one in a thousand chance means meeting several people each month, which can be overwhelming, prompting caution.

…

After the patient agreed, he went by himself to the specialist department, while Lu Cheng deliberately explained to Zhou Lü the categorization of cases assigned to the trauma center by the hospital leadership.

”Teacher Zhou, that’s roughly all; if there’s any ambiguity, we can discuss it together at that time.”

”We really appreciate the hard work from you, Teacher Chen, and Teacher Lin.” Lu Cheng’s tone was polite.

The establishment of the trauma center and the emergency surgery duty room has nothing to do with those few people; it was purely Yellow Haibo and the hospital leadership creating a new area to boost the hospital’s reputation.

Lu Cheng is a beneficiary, but the work procedures for people like Zhou Lü will become more complicated in the future.

”The decisions of the hospital leadership are something we have to respect.”

”Anyway, the three of us only have a few days left.” Zhou Lü and his group only need to rotate through the emergency department for three months; more complex procedures from April will affect the next three individuals.

Lu Cheng: ”Well, you still deserve credit for your hard work, Teacher Zhou.”

No matter how long Zhou Lü is inconvenienced, the fact remains he has been troubles by others.

With no emergencies in the resuscitation room and no patients, Lu Cheng stayed to chat more with Zhou Lü.

Unexpectedly, after only half an hour, the patient with the earlier dislocation came back again.

”Dr. Zhou, Dr. Lan wants me to undergo surgery, otherwise I’ll have to go to another hospital.” The middle-aged man’s left hand clutched his right, looking bewildered.

Zhou Lü was not an orthopedic specialist, so he naturally trusted Lan Yuan’s judgment: ”Did Dr. Lan suggest you undergo surgery?”

”Then you should proceed; it’s definitely a dislocation that can’t be reduced easily, so surgery is recommended.”

”I just slipped and fell, and you want to operate?” The patient found it difficult to comprehend.

Zhou Lü said, ”Alternatively, you can visit the Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital and see if their doctors can realign it for you.”

”Dr. Lan is a professional trauma surgeon, and his assessment must be very professional.”

The patient’s face showed some disappointment, but after pondering for a moment, he stepped forward: ”Dr. Zhou, please have a careful look again; the idea of surgery seems too outrageous.”

Zhou Lü helplessly said, ”I can’t interpret orthopedic films; Dr. Lan is the one who specializes in reading them.”

”Doctor, could you take a look? If it doesn’t work, I’ll just go to the Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital.” The middle-aged man flashed a sincere smile.

Seeing his expression, Zhou Lü found it hard to refuse too bluntly, so he pulled up the imaging system and accessed the film: ”See, it’s dislocated and needs reduction; that’s all I can discern.”

”I work with gastrointestinal issues.”

This patient wasn’t under Lu Cheng’s care, so naturally, he wouldn’t have reviewed the film in advance.

Now, after looking at it, Lu Cheng also thought this patient was quite unlucky, as it was a rare posterior inferior dislocation.

This is one type of a difficult-to-reduce joint dislocation, and Lan Yuan’s choice not to attempt manual reduction was intended to benefit the patient, not to shirk responsibility.

”So you’re saying surgery is a necessity?” The patient asked.

Lu Cheng scratched his head: ”Due to the complexity of your dislocation, you could first consult a professional trauma doctor at the Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital over there. If they can attempt a manual reduction, you might choose treatment there.”

”If they also recommend surgery, then proceeding with surgery would be advisable.”

”So it seems surgery is imminent. Sigh…” The patient softly sighed, his face showing bitterness.

Lu Cheng carefully contemplated before saying again: ”Actually, there is an alternative solution; you could try a trial reduction.”

”If the reduction is successful, then that’s good; if not, you can still continue attempts at reduction at the Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital.”

”If the reduction isn’t successful, you can opt for surgical treatment.” Lu Cheng clearly laid out the options.

Lu Cheng previously handled cases where reduction failed in an external facility, so he wasn’t perturbed if his reduction attempt failed as well and the patient was referred elsewhere.

Lu Cheng wasn’t guaranteed of success, nor did he need to label himself a perfectionist.

”Doctor, is there still a chance for reduction?” The middle-aged man’s eyes immediately lit up.

Lu Cheng replied: ”There is a certain chance, but the probability isn’t high; your dislocation is quite unique. Our most common shoulder dislocation is an anterior inferior dislocation, whereas yours is posterior.”

”Just a single word makes the difficulty of reduction vastly different, so you should keep your expectations modest.”

”Also, if you attempt a reduction, expect additional pain.”

Zhou Lü watched Lu Cheng with arms crossed; he noticed today’s Lu Cheng seemed transformed.

Since the hospital enabled Lu Cheng’s permissions, he appeared renewed — as if this was the correct way to unlock Lu Cheng.

”Fees will be charged as usual.” Lu Cheng added.

The middle-aged man’s expression turned apprehensive: ”That’s still better than surgery!~”

”I just slipped and fell, and you’re talking about surgery; I really can’t accept it for now.”

Many people share this mindset.

”Then come with me.” Lu Cheng led the way out.

…

Twenty minutes later, outside the door, Zhou Lü heard the middle-aged man expressing deep gratitude to Lu Cheng with bows.

Lu Cheng’s voice was clear: ”You need to go find Dr. Zhou, get the X-ray re-checked.”

”I believe it’s likely realigned, but objective evidence for verification is most rigorous.”

The middle-aged man hesitated over the expense: ”Is it necessary?”

Lu Cheng joked: ”If you don’t do it, I won’t let you leave. Unless you call the police, and we explain things in front of them.”

The middle-aged man quickly nodded: ”Alright, better to do it.”

”Thank you, Dr. Lu, I definitely trust you.”

The patient came in, and Zhou Lü helped him order a flat X-ray recheck; the patient left with the test order.

Zhou Lü stroked his chin in amazement, pondering for a good while.

Once the patient returned and showed the post-reduction film to Lu Cheng, then left the emergency department, Zhou Lü proactively sent the post-reduction X-ray picture to the trauma surgery on-call doctor, Lan Yuan.

Lan Yuan promptly called back, sounding incredulous: ”Brother Lü? The photo you sent me just now — was it the patient who came to see me?”

”Yes, it was done by Lu Cheng.” Zhou Lü replied calmly.

”Wow… Can he actually do this?” Lan Yuan’s shock burst through the phone line:

”Does this mean all along he’s been so low-key?”

Zhou Lü’s voice remained calm, with eyes subtly expressive: ”So, Lu Cheng simply kept a low profile. He’s quite the remarkable person…”

People with ability, generally at Lu Cheng’s age, find it hard to endure solitude.

Lu Cheng is different.

It seems only someone who has suffered setbacks can compose themselves this stablely.
