System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

Dai Linfang had some distinctive skills, although his spleen preservation and hemostasis techniques were not as good as Lu Cheng’s; in other areas, he wasn’t far behind Lu Cheng.

In wound cleaning skill, he could even slightly surpass Lu Cheng.

Lu Cheng put down his phone and asked, ”Director Tian, should the newly arrived emergency patient be transferred here?”

”It’s likely for Hepatobiliary Surgery.”

Tian Zhiliang’s gaze swept between Lu Cheng and Dai Linfang: ”Lu Cheng, did Dai Linfang really just start learning the spleen preservation technique from you this month?”

Tian Zhiliang’s tone was somewhat tense.

Lu Cheng was not one to hide his skills, nor did he have the intention of having his students outshine him without guidance; he had long shared the essentials of learning with Tian Zhiliang and others.

Yet, now, Tian Zhiliang’s path was a bit shaken.

”Yes!” Lu Cheng nodded.

”You both are monsters.” Tian Zhiliang clicked his tongue.

”Monsters, go chat privately, and remember to come to the office for tea later!”

Lu Cheng’s night shifts in the emergency rescue room and ward were scheduled to coincide with Tian Zhiliang’s ’second-line shifts,’ intentionally arranged to alleviate his stress to some extent.

The first half of the month was fine; occasionally calling Lu Cheng to the surgery, Tian Zhiliang felt his own abilities were enough to hold the director position.

But during the time Lu Cheng was on leave, it felt like a nightmare took hold, and Tian Zhiliang finally recognized his limits and realized Lu Cheng’s skills were not as calm and effortless as they appeared...

After over a month of interaction, Lu Cheng and Dai Linfang had become acquainted: ”Brother Dai, what have you done again?”

”You moved your spleen preservation technique to the State People’s Hospital, right? I’ve also applied, received surgical authorization, and tried my first case today.”

”Isn’t that perfectly normal?” Dai Linfang replied naturally.

Not to mention Dai Linfang’s background and his mentor Professor Huang Gengwen from Xiangya Hospital, Professor Huang arranged for surgical authorization ’review’ related to spleen surgery, which was relatively straightforward.

It’s estimated that Dai Linfang knew nearly everyone on the professional review committee.

Speaking of which, if not for his own panel, people like Dai Linfang standing in front of Lu Cheng would make Lu Cheng feel quite pressured.

Hence, Lu Cheng couldn’t understand why Dai Linfang considered it normal: ”Brother Dai, if you encounter a hematoma, it’s still advised not to handle it alone.”

With the example of Peng Kun from Long County People’s Hospital before them, Lu Cheng was clear in his suggestion.

Dai Linfang touched his head: ”Brother Lu, rest assured, I have my discretions.”

”The realm of blind operations, my opportunities aren’t sufficient yet. I definitely wouldn’t act rashly until reaching that point.”

”Clinical practice and research differ; the cost of research is just some money, but as a clinician, joking with a patient’s life is impossible.”

Dai Linfang continued: ”Brother Lu, about the matter we discussed earlier, how’s your preparation going?”

Since entering the emergency department, although a deputy director, Dai Linfang only had the title of attending physician, not yet considered ’senior,’ currently just in a following status.

A doctorate is just an educational qualification and doesn’t add much ’experience’ and clinical ’time capital’!

Of course, Dai Linfang also discussed with Lu Cheng what preparation he’d need if Lu Cheng were to take charge of the trauma center.

”Pretty much ready.” Lu Cheng replied.

In a momentary clench of his gluteus maximus, Dai Linfang felt a twinge: ”Ah?”

”Brother?”

”In one minute, complete at least 80 precise electrocautery hemostasis operations with an error rate of less than 4 times. The depth operation is 5 cm, and the hemostasis point diameter is 3 mm?”

Dai Linfang, having gone through formal training, knew how challenging what Lu Cheng described as ’pretty much ready’ was.

Previously, hemostasis technique practice was to complete at least 70 precise electrocautery hemostasis operations in one minute, with an error rate under 4 times. Depth operation was 3 cm, and hemostasis diameter was 2 mm!

Even though it only added 10 operations, 2 cm depth, and 1 mm hemostasis diameter,

the actual operational difficulty increased by at least tenfold!

”Hmm, I’ve already filmed videos and asked Professor Chen Song; Professor Chen identified the issues, and it’s just about enough.”

”Oh... he just replied.” Lu Cheng said.

Lu Cheng added the point last night, filmed the video this morning, edited it at noon, and sent it at two in the afternoon.

Now it’s eight forty-three in the evening.

Professor Chen Song sent a voice message, his voice trembled intensely: ”Xiao Lu, next time let’s have a discussion; please don’t come to me, alright?”

”My mom told me since I was young not to play with perverts, lest I shatter my views.”

This was a serious reply, interspersed with murmurings, unclear—

’Damn, how many people at this age can break through two fundamental techniques to such a level?’

’I can tolerate your excellence, but it’s not for you to crush my conviction.’

”Cough cough!” Lu Cheng coughed twice: ”Professor Chen cursed unreasonably.”

Dai Linfang rolled his eyes: ”You deserve the scolding.”

”In our pancreatic surgery, at my age, having the skill to pack some personal flair just requires talent beyond common understanding.”

”I estimate, Professor Chen and Professor Tong also achieved ’Huashan Sword Discussion’ in their early thirties!”

”Reaching mastery in both seems to exceed understanding.”

”Many top professors, if they invest enough time by the age of around forty, can also achieve it.”

”In my case, I’m barely stepping into the first threshold.”

Expert-level fundamental skills are definitely not common; a few chief physicians can reach it, and top talents by their thirties too, typically with only one.

Lu Cheng understood Dai Linfang was intentionally showing off himself: ”Then Brother Dai, you are a genius too.”

”Isn’t that right?” Dai Linfang self-asked.

But soon he became aware, his expression changed briefly, and he slightly grinned: ”My previous understanding of Brother Lu was too simplistic. I only saw your theoretical organizational ability.”

”In fact, your learning capability far exceeds what I imagined.”

”If you had received proper formal training from the start, I wouldn’t know how exceptional you’d be now.”

”Perhaps, you could become like Wu Mengchao, conducting surgeries globally by your thirties.”

At 38, Wu Mengchao led China’s first liver surgery, successfully removing a liver cancer lesion, breaking China’s previous record of no successful liver surgeries.

To create such a pioneering record at this age!

With earlier pioneers leading the way, few successors followed.

Nowadays, a 38-year-old hepatobiliary surgeon performing liver cancer removal is no longer considered a ’top achievement,’ following routine learning can achieve it.

Times have changed, and superlative standards have become higher and farther...

”How difficult was the spleen preservation surgery?” Lu Cheng shifted the topic.

Dai Linfang yawned: ”Very ordinary difficulty, merely repetitive tasks.”

”Difficult when unknown, easy when understood, true for all surgeries.” Dai Linfang remarked with ease.

Lu Cheng replied: ”Brother Dai, your mentality is too anxious.”

Dai Linfang lowered his outstretched arms, slowly nodding: ”Compared to your personality, I’m definitely a restless monkey.”

”But this is just my personality!~”

Lu Cheng was steady in nature, capable of many things, yet in pursuit of procedural justice, he chose to wait, opting for patience.

Of course, Lu Cheng wasn’t entirely passive, and he would exhibit his male instinct whenever an opening arose.

For instance, in the case of the trauma center leadership, Lu Cheng didn’t back down.

With Dai Linfang by Lu Cheng’s side the whole time, witnessing him cautiously calculate his capacity and sunk cost.

”By the way, Brother Lu, I discovered that Zhang Xibei’s talents are slightly better than Ni Xixin’s, though also hindered.” Dai Linfang said.

Lu Cheng chuckled at this: ”That’s good... it shows our team has great growth potential...”

”I’m going to read some novels... seeking inspiration.” Dai Linfang said.

”Huh? Brother Dai, you look for inspiration in novels?” Lu Cheng was quite surprised.

”Novelists’ imaginative thinking is sometimes more expansive than ours; it’s a skill required for them.”

”Sometimes it’s worth referencing.”

”Want me to recommend some?” Dai Linfang asked.

”Hmm, not now, I need to carefully review regulations, common diseases, management transitions, and other matters for the trauma center.” Lu Cheng won’t just rashly charge forward upon taking over the trauma center.

Learning from predecessors is essential for humility.

Dai Linfang stood: ”Brother Lu... you will soon be able to truly stand on your own, unbound!~”

”The hospital’s lower hierarchy, for operations, is not necessarily a bad thing.”

Lu Cheng understood Dai Linfang’s point but didn’t respond.

If it were Union Hospital or Xiangya Hospital, no center would let Lu Cheng take charge.

But this is remote Xiangzhou, Xiangxi...
