System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

When Lu Cheng arrived at the Emergency Department, the on-duty Xiang Kai instructed him to go to the Director’s office in the Internal Medicine area.

After Lu Cheng thanked him and turned to leave, he opened the door of the Director’s office, where nine people were formally seated inside.

Director Huang Haibo, Deputy Directors Wu Yuxiang and Zhou Zhaofu from Internal Medicine; Tian Zhiliang and Dai Linfang from Surgery.

Vice Deans Yao Xin, Xiang Kun, Director of the Medical Department Chen Zhong, and Dong Chang, with whom Lu Cheng had met a few times.

When Lu Cheng opened the door and entered, the meeting had already started. He found the last seat, carefully took and placed a chair, and listened intently to Yao Xin’s speech.

The responsibilities of the two Vice Deans were also different. Vice Dean Yao Xin was in charge of surgical affairs, while Vice Dean Xiang Kun was in charge of administrative duties.

In principle, surgical matters were handled by Yao Xin, but the appointment of personnel to various departments required the signature of Vice Dean Xiang Kun for submission to Dean Huang Chunhai of the hospital.

Yao Xin was explaining the essence of this meeting: ”The construction of the Trauma Center and the Intensive Care Unit of the Emergency Department is a major plan for our hospital this year and is a matter of life and death for millions of people across the state.”

”Leaders from the State Health Commission and the state committee are extremely concerned about this matter. Currently, we have also made some preparations and overcome some difficulties, including but not limited to the insufficient manpower and equipment in the Emergency Department.”

”For this purpose, Dean Huang, the Medical Department, and several administrative departments have held multiple meetings, conducting an in-depth analysis of the feasibility of the Trauma Center construction, and have made relatively sufficient preparations.”

”The main purpose of this visit to the Emergency Department is to hear the opinions from this side.”

”Director Huang, what are your views?”

Huang Haibo stated clearly: ”I firmly support the decisions made by the hospital leadership for the development of the Emergency Department. The construction of the Trauma Center is an important matter that cannot be delayed.”

”However, I come from an Internal Medicine background, and my experience as a Department Director is limited, so my understanding of the Trauma Center construction is quite superficial. I can only facilitate everything within my personal scope.”

Huang Haibo smirked without smiling genuinely: ”For the rest, I am unable to do much and can only follow the leadership’s arrangements.”

”Director Tian, how about you?” Yao Xin looked at Tian Zhiliang.

Currently, Tian Zhiliang is the Director in charge of Surgery and is the ’representative’!

Huang Haibo is not Xiao Zhaoxi and cannot bear the responsibilities of both sides alone, hence the power has been delegated.

Tian Zhiliang slyly glanced at both Dong Chang and Xiang Kun, and his attitude was firm: ”Dean Yao, my previous stance remains unchanged. I am unable to take the leadership position at the Trauma Center.”

”If the leadership insists on making such an arrangement, I will have to consider not renewing my contract, and we part on good terms.”

Dong Chang’s scheme to become the head of the Trauma Center failed, so he aimed indirectly and further targeted Tian Zhiliang’s position.

Having Tian Zhiliang go with Lu Cheng to ’compete,’ but Tian Zhiliang was not foolish. If he agreed, and Lu Cheng chose not to proceed, it would be like putting his neck on the line for someone to chop.

Although, Tian Zhiliang could negotiate with Lu Cheng, and everyone could work well together.

But this is placing all hopes on Lu Cheng, and as an adult, how could Tian Zhiliang be willing to place all reliance on someone else?

Yao Xin’s tone became displeased, turning cold: ”Tian Zhiliang, are you threatening?”

”Dean Yao, can you force a cow to drink water by pushing its head down?”

”I am capable, so I am duty-bound. I know my capabilities are insufficient. If I go to that position, it would be reckless, disrespecting the patients.”

”This is something I cannot do.” Tian Zhiliang was still clear in his stance.

You can revoke my position and give it to Dong Chang, but even then, I will not go to the Trauma Center.

It seems that Yao Xin is pressing Tian Zhiliang, but Tian Zhiliang knows very well that Yao Xin is putting on a show for Xiang Kun.

For Tian Zhiliang to reach his current Deputy Director position, he does have some background, which may not be as strong as Xiang Kun supporting Dong Chang, but if Xiang Kun insists on pushing hard, a confrontation is possible.

Currently, it’s just in the discussion phase, so there’s no need to be too rigid with words.

Retreating to advance. If I don’t want to be involved, is leaving not an option?

Xiang Kun clasped his hands together, speaking kindly: ”Director Tian, assigning personnel to the Emergency Department is a normal work arrangement in the hospital.”

Tian Zhiliang said: ”Dean Xiang, constructing the Trauma Center is not as simple as deciding what to eat today.”

”This arrangement must be mutual. I need to have a thorough understanding of myself.”

”I am limited in my capabilities, and I can’t handle it!~”

”Not only am I saying this now, but I will also report to the hospital leadership, the Human Resources Department, and the Medical Department leadership!~”

”The Trauma Center is a matter of life and death for emergency patients, not child’s play, and cannot be treated as such.”

Xiang Kun continued: ”Director Tian, the Trauma Center is not just for you to manage alone, you can take people with you.”

”Once you’ve selected your team, we will certainly work on their mental readiness.”

If the situation with Lu Cheng doesn’t open up, there are naturally other ways.

Tian Zhiliang has a friendly relationship with Lu Cheng, so he won’t refuse so bluntly, leaving room for negotiation.

At this point, Dai Linfang suddenly said: ”Dean Xiang, I am also unfamiliar with the Emergency Department, but won’t too many personnel changes affect the normal treatment order?”

Before coming, Xiang Kun also conducted a detailed understanding of the Emergency Department’s personnel and knew that Dai Linfang was also one of the hospital-appointed Deputy Directors, so he was quite courteous: ”Dr. Dai, the personnel arrangement must not undergo major changes, minor adjustments are fine.”

”In the surgery area, most people still need to remain in their original positions. We’ve also talked to colleagues in Surgery about this.”
