System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

A group of people turned their gaze upon hearing the sound, and Tian Zhiliang twisted his body to stand up and greet: ”Director Song, what brings you here?”

As Tian Zhiliang stood up, he casually tugged at Lu Cheng’s sleeve. When Lu Cheng stood up with him, he introduced, ”Director Song, this is Dr. Lu Cheng from our department.”

The visitor, in his fifties, with graying temples and a serious expression, turned around: ”Come with me.”

Lu Cheng and the others were all confused, and Tian Zhiliang quickly followed, quietly asking, ”Director Song, what’s going on? Lu Cheng is on duty today.”

”If he’s on duty, then cover for him for a while. I’m asking you to cover for him for a while, can’t you?” Director Song’s tone was noticeably displeased.

Tian Zhiliang’s mouth opened and closed twice, and he decisively nodded: ”Okay, Director Song.”

”Director Xiao is here today too, I’ll call him later to report.” Tian Zhiliang felt quite powerless in front of Director Song and could only say so.

Director Song had already stepped out of the doctor’s office: ”Arrange it however you like, I’m just in charge of taking him over.”

Lu Cheng rubbed his chin and trotted to catch up, walking alongside Director Song. He quietly asked, ”Teacher Song, I’m on duty today? What important matter do you need me for?”

”Our emergency department regulations state that you cannot be absent without reason.”

Lu Cheng was sure he didn’t know this Director Song, nor had he ever met him.

”Realizing the need for politeness now? Where were you earlier?” Director Song retorted sarcastically.

Lu Cheng stopped in his tracks and, after thinking carefully, said, ”Director Song, if you don’t tell me what it’s about, I’ll go back to my duty.”

”If there are other formalities that need my cooperation, you can go through the Medical Affairs Department.”

It wasn’t that Lu Cheng was paranoid, but he was on duty, even if it was just a ward duty, and if a Medical Affairs Department inspection found him missing from the doctor’s office, it would be a big problem.

Tomorrow is his engagement day, and Lu Cheng has no interest in collaborating with the Medical Affairs Department or the hospital in political ’inspections’ and criticism activities.

Not to deny that Director Song has significant authority in the hospital, but he isn’t Lu Cheng’s direct supervisor and can’t really do anything to him.

”There’s a professor personally requesting to see you. It’s quite an honor,” Director Song said sarcastically.

Lu Cheng replied, ”If he wants to see me, he can come to the emergency department to find me.”

Director Song was momentarily stunned, looking at Lu Cheng in surprise: ”You?”

”Teacher Song, if Director Tian didn’t know you, I wouldn’t have left the doctor’s office with you,” Lu Cheng replied bluntly.

When Lu Cheng doesn’t have time to deal with trivial issues, he handles it decisively, even if it offends ’Director Song’!

But this is the 21st century, and even two healthcare workers with grudges wouldn’t deliberately sabotage each other’s work during duty hours, crossing the line.

Moreover, Lu Cheng has seen many professors, and they have lost some of their mystique in his mind.

Director Song saw Lu Cheng’s serious expression and explained, ”It’s a professor from the Provincial People’s Hospital who wants to see you.”

Lu Cheng insisted on his decision: ”But Director Song, I don’t know anyone at the Provincial People’s Hospital.”

”I need to take leave tomorrow, and I don’t want to be caught by a Medical Affairs Department inspection, so I have to go back to my duty post.”

”If the professor you’re talking about really wants to find me, please kindly ask him to come over. I appreciate the trouble,” Lu Cheng said politely, cupping his hands slightly.

Director Song was at a loss for words for a moment and then had no choice but to walk away silently.

Lu Cheng was unwilling to leave, and Director Song dared not forcibly take Lu Cheng away.

It was not reasonable either legally or emotionally.

...

After Lu Cheng returned to the office, Tian Zhiliang and the others immediately gathered around to ask what happened. After Lu Cheng truthfully recounted the events, Tian Zhiliang nodded.

”It’s just as well. Director Xiao will come over later.”

”With him mediating, the pressure you’re under will be slightly less.”

”This Director Song is the director of the respiratory department and might join the hospital leadership team,” Tian Zhiliang explained.

”I don’t know this Director Song. Director Tian, I’ll go write the medical records first...” Lu Cheng had things to do the next day and didn’t want to explain too much.

...

About half an hour later, Director Song Qihua came in from outside with a slightly chubby middle-aged man who looked younger than him.

This time, Song Qihua had a clearly misunderstood ’sheepish grin’ and was polite: ”Dr. Lu, this is Professor Zhu from the respiratory department of the Provincial People’s Hospital.”

”He has come specially to thank you.”

Song Qihua then hurriedly added, ”Professor Zhu, this is Dr. Lu Cheng from our emergency department, a key young doctor in our emergency surgery department, who is highly valued by our Director Xiao Zhaoxi.”

Song Qihua quickly approached: ”Dr. Lu, hello, hello.”

Lu Cheng, a little confused, was shaken up and down by Song Qihua’s handshake: ”Hello, may I ask who you are?”

”Dr. Lu, you probably don’t recognize me, but you must remember Joo Sangwook from last night, right?”

”The child was so careless, he slipped and fell off the bridge. I rushed over as soon as I got the call and have only just arrived at the hospital.”

”I learned that he’s now out of danger...”

”Dr. Lu, you know the situation back then. If it weren’t for you, my boy would have been gone for nothing.”

”So after settling things there, I immediately thought of coming to find you. But since I don’t know anyone, I thought to take a shortcut.”

”It was my confusion...”

Song Qihua quickly explained, ”Lu Cheng, Professor Zhu didn’t sleep all night and was originally planning to rest a bit.”
