System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

Want to find an outsider, to view this matter from an observer’s perspective.

Dai Linfang didn’t dwell, didn’t stay long, and left proactively after the conversation.

...

February 26th, Friday, seventeenth day of the first lunar month. The last working day of February.

Emergency Department, Doctor’s Office.

Xiao Zhaoxi had issued a group announcement earlier, saying that there would be a major handover today, so all medical staff, except those on duty in the emergency rescue room, were present.

Xiao Zhaoxi dressed smartly, wearing a suit shirt, his voice loud: ”Today is the last working day of February, but not the last for our emergency department, so we can’t be complacent like other specialties.”

”Work that needs to be done must be meticulously implemented, materials that need supplementing, files that need archiving - in these last few days, I will accompany everyone in the department for the most detailed sorting.”

”We aim to complete today’s work today, everyone, let’s all work overtime these days.”

Xiao Zhaoxi was leaving in March, so in February, he needed to consolidate all the details during his tenure to avoid being called back for materials at other units afterward.

As a director, Xiao Zhaoxi understood the nuances involved.

Only by settling debts can you part ways without attachment.

Of course, Xiao Zhaoxi wouldn’t personally write medical records, so he needed to call people to work overtime.

Everyone knew this was Xiao Zhaoxi’s last request before leaving, so naturally, no one refuted.

However, Lu Cheng raised his hand to interrupt, smiling: ”Director Xiao, I need to request leave starting this afternoon, tomorrow, I have very important business.”

”This had been arranged a long time ago, but today I am on day duty in the ward, and I will archive all the medical records for my patients.”

Tomorrow is the eighteen of the first lunar month, and Lu Cheng, one of the engagements, hasn’t done anything, so he couldn’t dare to be absent on the day of the engagement.

Xiao Zhaoxi smiled: ”Lu Cheng can certainly take leave; engagements and weddings are significant matters and are the most legitimate reasons.”

”Others, no leave is allowed.”

After smiling away, Xiao Zhaoxi continued: ”I’ll mention two things now. First, next month, Director Huang Haibo will take over as our emergency department director. Director Huang is from internal medicine, so the surgical group’s related businesses will be jointly managed by Deputy Directors Tian Zhiliang and Zhu Yuanzhou.”

”The internal medicine group will be entirely handed over to Director Huang Haibo.”

”This matter is very important, Director Huang is technically solid, theoretically solid, and has a strong sense of legal governance.”

Others in the department had certainly inquired about Huang Haibo’s performance, so roughly knew his achievements.

For the small fry like Lu Cheng, such concerns were unnecessary.

Regardless of who becomes director, it will not affect their status as workhorses.

”The second thing is that this year, our emergency department’s work has been particularly outstanding, and relevant leaders from the State Health and Health Commission have commended our hospital’s emergency department task load and performance.”

”Certainly, everyone can see the increasing banners our emergency department is receiving, and more emergency patients are willing to come to our hospital for treatment.”

”This isn’t due to any promotions, publications, or networking, but due to genuinely established reputation through our abilities.”

”Thus, our hospital’s emergency department naturally becomes the emergency center for the whole state and the convergence point for referrals.”

”Hospital leaders, surgical leaders, and colleagues in surgery have also highly affirmed our emergency department’s work, which is the result of everyone’s concerted efforts.”

”We should continue to uphold such ideals, engage more clinically, and solidly do more for patients, which is also the duty of us as doctors...”

Though Xiao Zhaoxi was talking boastfully, everyone almost naturally looked in the direction of Lu Cheng.

Between Lu Cheng’s coming and going, there were no other personnel changes in the department, but the ”performance” of the emergency department suddenly improved.

There wasn’t a significant change in the type of diseases; everyone knew the root reason.

Although Lu Cheng’s personal abilities couldn’t be replicated, the honors Lu Cheng earned for the department belonged to everyone.

Xiao Zhaoxi continued: ”According to such momentum, our emergency department is likely to be rated as an advanced department this quarter, and we would get the bonus performance rewards allocated to other departments by the hospital.”

”So, we still need to work solidly, and sincerely do well ourselves to gain recognition from others.”

”Recognition from patients, recognition from leaders.”

”People who do real things will not always be overshadowed, even if not outstanding, nor understood; someone will eventually understand you...”

”Medicine is a major matter, emergency is life-and-death relevant major matter.”

After finishing the guiding remarks, Xiao Zhaoxi arranged some specific affairs, assigning tasks to individuals.

Upon completion, the handover dispersed, and Xiao Zhaoxi began comforting other colleagues in the internal medicine group.

Initially, the rumor in the department was that after Xiao Zhaoxi’s departure, the deputy director of the internal medicine group would succeed as director; now, an external appointment certainly stirred some emotions.

As the current leader, Xiao Zhaoxi needs to carry out some appeasement tasks.

...

While Lu Cheng was writing medical records, Tian Zhiliang sorted his task allocation, supplementing some administrative-related materials.

Glancing at Director Xiao Zhaoxi and the departure of internal medicine’s Wu Yuxiang, Zhou Zhaofu, before lowering his voice to ask: ”Xiao Lu, I’ve heard that Director Huang Haibo is from your Long County People’s Hospital; you should be familiar with him.”

”What’s his background?”

Lu Cheng shook his head: ”Director Tian, honestly, I’m not familiar with Director Huang; I didn’t stay long in Long County’s emergency department, and at that time, Director Huang was the head of internal medicine, always keeping a low profile.”

”I can count the times I’ve spoken to him on my fingers.”

What Lu Cheng said was not false; he was genuinely unfamiliar with Huang Haibo.

Even if Huang Haibo had approached him, they weren’t acquainted.

”This Director Huang is no ordinary person, from internal medicine head in County Hospital to being appointed as our hospital’s emergency department director,” Tian Zhiliang’s tone was cautious.

Liang Jianhong replied: ”Director Tian, if Director Huang didn’t have any surgical experience before, he likely wouldn’t manage our surgical affairs, right?”

”We’ll continue as we are?”

Tian Zhiliang glanced at Liang Jianhong, saying: ”I’m not worried about Director Huang managing us; I’m wary of him competing for personnel.”

”Director Huang stoked the fires of internals’ EICU and surgery’s trauma center, and both have deep ties with Xiao Lu here.”

Tian Zhiliang said, glancing at Lu Cheng.

Because Lu Cheng had attended an advanced training program for ”ECMO” at Xiangya Second Hospital before New Year.

Tian Zhiliang suspected Lu Cheng having old acquaintance with Huang Haibo, hence pre-planned cultivation by Huang Haibo.

Liang Jianhong had thought of this too, smiling awkwardly: ”Well, Brother Lu is a good brother to our surgical team.”

Lu Cheng knew the more he explained, the messier it got, so he said: ”Director Tian, all of this is simply coincidental; I chose ECMO further study just to learn about this equipment, which could be used in the rescue room if possible.”

”No other intentions.”

Tian Zhiliang swiftly changed his tone: ”Oh, Lu Cheng, why are you being so serious? All the bigwigs aren’t here; I just asked casually.”

”Today, we’ll all be working overtime together, I’ll treat everyone to coffee, everyone is included, no need for courtesy.”

With Xiao Zhaoxi departing and the new director having an internal medicine background, Tian Zhiliang, as the deputy director and actual head of the surgical group, naturally needed to show leadership style.

Having the leader treat and pay, everyone was delighted, gathering around Tian Zhiliang to order until suddenly an elder colleague wearing a white coat walked in, breaking the joyful atmosphere—

Upon entering, loudly shouting: ”Who among you is Dr. Lu Cheng from the emergency department?”
