System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

Zhang Tiesheng pushed his glasses up and walked forward immediately, whispering, ”Such a big move, going to the trauma center, why didn’t you think of discussing with Professor Chen first?”

”When Professor Chen found out, he was furious for a long time but couldn’t blow up. He asked us to send a consultation to you immediately, but you didn’t respond.”

”Hurry up and go apologize; there are many pitfalls in the trauma center.”

Zeng Huanqi realized he had missed the best time to network with Lu Cheng and now just showed goodwill towards him.

”Where is Director Du?” Lu Cheng didn’t see Du Qiang, so he asked.

”Director Du went to the ICU to see Tian Zhuang; it might take a while for him to come.” Zhang Tiesheng replied.

Lu Cheng stopped and turned his head sideways: ”Tian Zhuang? ICU?”

Zhang Tiesheng replied helplessly: ”They had a brawl among the brothers!”

Lu Cheng pursed his lips, squinting before reluctantly turning around.

”Teacher Chen!” Lu Cheng couldn’t manage the outside affairs and headed to the director’s office, pushing the door open.

Chen Song was doing ’nebulization,’ raising his head slightly: ”Why don’t you just call me Chen Song? You have quite the nerve anyway.”

Lu Cheng closed the door, sat in front of Chen Song, and spoke warmly: ”Teacher Chen, are you still angry?”

Chen Song glanced at Lu Cheng disdainfully, his tone cold and realistic: ”I’m not your father or mother; how much does your life or death concern me?”

”Can’t you see the trauma center is using you?”

Chen Song was still upset: ”Huang Haibo just arrived in Xiangzhou and needs to make achievements. The former hospital leaders need to clean up the mess...”

Lu Cheng explained: ”Teacher Chen, I know all this, but if everything goes step by step, how can I apply for the associate senior position at the first opportunity?”

Chen Song crossed his arms, naturally analyzing Lu Cheng’s reasons for making his choice: ”So you must make it to clinical associate senior this year?”

”Is this something your character is supposed to do, capable of doing?”

In Chen Song’s view, Lu Cheng being able to rise to associate chief physician at thirty-five or thirty-six is already fast.

So why does Lu Cheng need to ’lick the knife-edge’ like before now?

Promotion to associate senior is queued; Lu Cheng can be very capable and excellent.

But he’s not a child of destiny or the protagonist in others’ eyes, with everyone revolving around Lu Cheng.

Wherever he goes, glory surrounds him; waiting a year or two for promotion isn’t normal?

How many can actually get promoted just by seniority?

At Xiangya Second Hospital and Xiangya Hospital, there are a bunch of long-term attending physicians…

Lu Cheng said: ”Teacher Chen, without being at associate senior, the limitations are many.”

”Oh, right, without you, patients can’t survive.” Chen Song sneered sarcastically.

”Xiangzhou People’s Hospital relies on you, Lu Cheng, to operate normally. Without you, the department would collapse.”

”What is your task and focus? It’s conducting research, doing projects, getting that coveted academic certification sooner.”

”I’ve already told you, as long as your research is good, our Zhongnan University has long had precedents for promoting undergraduates directly to professor.”

”What are you doing?”

Chen Song was deeply concerned and thus scolded harshly.

Chen Song wasn’t Dong Chang, who sees only the glamour of being the head of the trauma center.

”It’s also for conducting projects, to perform projects better.” Lu Cheng calmly replied.

”For solo liver preservation surgery?” Chen Song’s emotions had calmed quite a bit.

Lu Cheng, currently, can barely perform spleen suturing, an aspect of spleen preservation surgery, but patients can live without a spleen.

Compared to liver preservation surgery, spleen preservation surgery doesn’t have as significant a real-world impact.

At Lu Cheng’s age, as a surgeon, wanting to quickly take charge in surgeries and having a craving for surgery is understandable.

Only a surgeon like that can truly excel in surgical work.

”Yes, but not entirely.” Lu Cheng cautiously answered.

”Go on.” Chen Song wasn’t merely calling Lu Cheng down to scold him harshly.

”Teacher Chen, after rising to clinical associate senior, I don’t need to explain the clinical authority and freedom to you.” Lu Cheng replied.

Chen Song interrupted: ”Don’t talk nonsense; in this society, rights and duties are basically equal. Responsibility and risk, you’re ignoring them, aren’t you?”

Lu Cheng nodded, saying: ”Teacher Chen, to be frank, I feel restricted.”

”See, you’re still speaking candidly, you’re anxious.” Chen Song looked at him knowingly.

”Teacher Chen, it’s not that I’m anxious, but…”

”Seeing some patients who obviously could have better handling but must be ignored, I feel frustrated.”

”Once you can be calm, twice you can overlook, ten or twenty times, I really can’t remain cold and indifferent.”

”But I just can’t help, don’t you understand…”

Lu Cheng said: ”Teacher Chen, I don’t know if you know, but I know limb preservation is possible without amputation. My training hospital Zhongnan’s trauma surgery already offers advanced programs for limb preservation in damage trauma.”

”However, at my current hospital, hardly anyone thinks to do this.”

”When I’m not on duty, patients do come to the department, there are patients, but when I’m not on duty, I have no task, others are handling the treatment work.”

”Teacher Chen, ask yourself, can you really bear, time and again, to see a patient you can save but have no way of helping, walk away?”

”Have you never felt even a slight twinge of compassion at any point?”

Professor Chen Song’s expression flickered, then continued: ”Fine, even if you can stand firm on moral grounds, can you hold your ground professionally?”

”In the trauma center, are you just handling emergency cases?”
