Super Gene Hunting Ground

Luo Meng returned to the base and reported his investigation to David.

”Station Chief, I asked the fish people, and indeed there is a cave connecting the mine tunnel and the pool. Yang Xiao and the others really did escape through digging tunnels.”

David nodded,

”Alright, it’s a miracle that Yang Xiao survived, but from now on, pay more attention to the other miners at the mine site, and prevent any accidents.”

For David, if Yang Xiao and his group had any tricks up their sleeves, he didn’t care much, because their power was too weak; in front of an Emperor Level Evolver, they couldn’t make any significant impact, so turning a blind eye was enough.

”Okay, I understand.”

Luo Meng replied.

Luo Meng didn’t want to tell David that Yang Xiao and others had escaped from the mine a few days earlier, he had his reasons.

As the captain of the mine site, who deals with the miners at the grassroots level all year round, he could naturally understand the hardships of the miners.

One could say, every miner harbored thoughts, even plans and actions of escape, which is a common human sentiment.

According to Luo Meng’s estimation, the escape tunnel built by Yang Xiao and others must have been ready a long time ago, just waiting for the right time to escape; it just happened that they encountered a savage attack and had to use it prematurely.

Luo Meng internally found it funny, no matter where you dig your tunnels to, it’s all within the mountains, surrounded by high-level monsters, where could you possibly escape to?

Once Yang Xiao and others enter the jungle, it would be difficult for them to survive.

”Thinking you can escape, that’s never going to happen in this lifetime.”

Although Luo Meng didn’t care about the minor actions of Yang Xiao and others, this matter, however, could not be disclosed to David, as it might affect the currently stable relationship between David and Yang Xiao.

Luo Meng’s greatest wish was to be able to return to the base after work every day and play a game of chess with Yang Xiao, to enhance his spiritual power.

For Luo Meng, after evolving to the Emperor Level, he had reached the ceiling of his genetic evolution, the only thing that could still be improved was his spiritual power.

For all Evolvers, spiritual power is a weak point, and if suitable conditions can be found, it is also the easiest to improve.

Luo Meng had now found the right condition, so he did not want some minor issue to disrupt the current balance.

...

Three days quickly passed by, Du Tianxing, Gu Beifeng and others returned to the mine to continue mining.

The three temporary identity card slots applied by David were drawn by Du Tianxing, Chi Lin, and Feng Ming.

Yang Xiao rested for two days, and on the third day, he went to play chess with David and Luo Meng.

David wrote a report about the duel between Yang Xiao and Li Kan, describing it as during the duel, Li Kan was injured severely and unfortunately died. Yang Xiao expressed great regret and sorrow, etc., and hoped to help Yang Xiao with the application for a temporary identity card.

The mining accident and the duel with Li Kan gradually settled down, and the wild person Ah Bao temporarily stopped harassing the mining site. David focused on the chess tournament a month later, practicing chess with Yang Xiao every day to continuously improve his chess skills and spiritual power.

Luo Meng also managed to get two opportunities to play chess with Yang Xiao every day, significantly improving both his spiritual power and chess skills.

During a chess game, Luo Meng intentionally sidelined Leia, closed the door, and said to Yang Xiao:

”Station Chief Dai sent me to check the entrance of the pool’s cave. I told him that you guys indeed escaped through digging that day and didn’t mention anything about earlier.”

The last five words ”didn’t mention anything about earlier,” Luo Meng emphasized heavily.

Yang Xiao’s heart sank.

Luo Meng chuckled and continued,

”Everything is past now, you don’t need to think about anything, just continue living your life as usual, no one will know.”

Even Yang Xiao could understand the implication in Luo Meng’s words.

”Thank you, Captain Luo, for your understanding.”

”Ah, it’s human nature, there’s nothing to thank for. If I were a miner, I would do the same, but these kinds of things should not happen again, they are pointless.”

Yang Xiao nodded.

Since then, Yang Xiao put a lot of effort into guiding Luo Meng in chess, and Luo Meng’s chess skills indeed improved significantly. Occasionally, when they visited the entertainment hall of the base, if Luo Meng found someone obnoxious, he would beat them thoroughly.

As for Yuri, who used to be under Luo Meng, now he would lower his head and avoid Luo Meng, not daring to provoke him anymore.

Many people wanted to learn Go from Yang Xiao through Luo Meng’s introduction.

”Don’t even think about taking up Master Yang’s time, his time is precious. Station Chief Dai will soon be participating in a competition, spending all day studying chess with Master Yang. Even I don’t dare to bother Master Yang too much. After Station Chief Dai participates in the Go competition, maybe I can arrange one or two matches for you with Master Yang, but no more than that.”

Everyone who needed favors from Luo Meng naturally flattered him excessively.

This was the first time in many years at the base that Luo Meng felt such fervent respect from everyone, and it gave him a great sense of achievement.

More than twenty days later, as the time for the Go competition was approaching, David, along with Yang Xiao and four cloaked men, took a spaceship to Karachi, the largest colonial city on the Purple Origin Planet.

For Witch Star, Purple Origin Planet is a huge mining field, primarily used for producing Purple Origin Crystal Stones.

According to David, there are currently over two thousand bases of various sizes distributed across the Purple Origin Planet.

Because of the convenience of spaceships, there are no roads here; everyone travels by spaceship.

After approximately two hours of flying, Yang Xiao and the others arrived at a large valley.

The valley was surrounded by mountains on three sides and had a plain on one side, with a river flowing through the valley, dividing it into two halves.

David’s spaceship landed on a special spaceship parking square inside the valley.

After getting off the spaceship with David, Yang Xiao looked up at the sky and noticed that the entire valley was enveloped by an orange protective light screen.

The streets were bustling with people.

David explained:

”To defend against monster attacks, the entire valley is covered with an orange protective light screen, which can withstand attacks from Emperor Level Genetic Evolvers. This Defense Light Screen operates on non-discriminatory killing; any monsters or people who intrude into the Defense Light Screen will be killed. One can only safely enter the valley through the ground passage, and every person must be authorized to enter. Every base has a special entry permit,

Besides the Genetic Store, there are also a variety of other everyday shops, pubs, restaurants, inns, mercenaries, specialized blacksmith shops, mining machinery, and tool shops, etc.”

”What are the mercenaries and blacksmith shops for?”

Yang Xiao asked. He understood the purpose of the other shops, but these two were unclear to him.

”Every base faces attacks from savages. Some bases strong enough can fend off savages on their own, while those with weaker defenses might hire mercenaries to help clear the nearby savages or kill some of them.”

”Has our base ever hired mercenaries?”

”Of course, every base hires mercenaries before they begin clearing the land. Only once the entire base is established with adequate security measures can they stop relying on mercenaries.”

”Why didn’t you hire mercenaries to kill Ah Bao and other savages?”

”Hiring mercenaries is extremely expensive, we turn to them only as a last resort.”

”How expensive?”

”The wage for one mercenary per day is 10 kilograms of crystal stones.”

”Ah, that’s indeed very expensive.”

”However, this time I plan to hire a team of mercenaries to eliminate Ah Bao.”

David spoke with hatred, as he harbored deep resentment towards Ah Bao and the escaped miners who had ganged up against him.
