Super Gene Hunting Ground

Base Station Chief David looked at Yang Xiao in surprise.

Indeed, ever since he became the Base Station Chief ten years ago, his spiritual power cultivation had almost come to a standstill despite trying many methods, and even sparing no expense to seek out Go masters for matches, the improvement of his spiritual power remained extremely slow.

He had always felt deep down that something was wrong with himself, but he could never identify the problem.

Now hearing Yang Xiao pinpoint the issue so directly, he was shaken to his core.

Yang Xiao picked up the teacup beside him, which contained a peculiar fruit juice used to restore spiritual power.

He took a small sip,

looked at David across from him, and said with a slight smile:

”Us Earthlings have a saying, ’The sea accepts all rivers; it’s greatness lies in its capacity to embrace.’ Even though I haven’t been cultivating my spiritual power for very long, I have discovered that it is a reflection of one’s mental state. Once a person is in a state of complacency and arrogance, their spiritual power will struggle to improve.”

Yang Xiao said this, then paused, looking at David opposite him.

David’s heart skipped a beat, and his face turned somewhat embarrassed, as he said:

”What does Young Master Yang mean by this?”

”This morning I played a game of Go with you, and I only won by 3 stones. In your mind, you probably thought that our Go skills were similar, and that the win could have been due to luck, so you were not convinced.

After breakfast, you played Go with me again, and again, you lost. With each defeat, you were less convinced and demanded another round. However, with each game, you lost more miserably. At that time, instead of admitting defeat, you felt uncomfortable, ashamed, and even angry. Am I right?”

David looked at Yang Xiao in surprise,

”How did you know?”

”It’s simple, anyone could see it; your words and actions have already explained everything.

Actually, it’s quite normal for you to react this way. You’re the boss of the base. Whether it’s the level of Gene Evolution or spiritual power, your Go skills were rightfully the top in the base.

Over time, this sense of being the number one has gradually solidified. Whenever someone in the base dares to challenge you, your first reaction is to defeat them, suppress them, and consolidate your top position.

However, this mentality has also had a huge negative impact on your cultivation of spiritual power. Without a humble heart, you won’t learn from the strengths and advantages of others. With your spiritual power in a state of self-isolation, how can it possibly improve?”

Yang Xiao bluntly pointed out the cause of David’s stagnation in spiritual power cultivation.

In fact, these words were once said to him by one of his senior sisters.

Yang Xiao had some Go talent; in middle school, he had already beaten all the Go masters in his hometown of Bright Moon City, gradually developing a complacent attitude, much like ’I am the best in the world.’

In the face of various Go manuals and even famous Go matches on the internet, he looked down on them or rather, he lacked the humility to learn them. He thought they were just mediocre and believed that all he needed was enough study time to be great.

It was from this time that Yang Xiao’s Go level hit a bottleneck and couldn’t improve for a long while, until his father took him to the Go Academy in Kongming City and landed him a place as a disciple under Chen Guohua, the proud student of the Go Sage of Xuanming Country, Nie Shuai.

When Yang Xiao had won the championship in the Bright Moon City Youth Go Tournament, Chen Guohua was the head of the jury, and the trophy was personally awarded by the Master himself.

When Yang Xiao became his disciple, Chen Guohua immediately played half a game against him. Yang Xiao was beaten down with no place to hide.

Afterward, Chen Guohua called over a beautiful woman with classical charm, and pointing to Yang Xiao, said:

”This is your younger brother disciple; from now on, you’ll be responsible for teaching him.”

At that moment, seeing this elegant senior sister, Yang Xiao blushed, ”She’s so beautiful!”

Later Yang Xiao found out that this beauty was named Chen Yao, Chen Guohua’s daughter, who at that time was already a member of the national Go team of Xuanming Country and had won multiple awards.

Chen Yao played Go with Yang Xiao once every week. After some time, she noticed that Yang Xiao’s progress was slow. Upon thorough questioning, she said the words that Yang Xiao had just repeated.

Because Chen Yao had also gone through a similar bottleneck period.

The majority of geniuses go through a cycle of learning, impressing, becoming complacent, awakening, learning again, and finally, taking off.

Since then, Yang Xiao completely changed his mindset, (in fact, after entering the Kongming City Go Academy to take a master, his proud and complacent heart had already been shattered), learning modestly and making rapid progress in the art.

Yang Xiao, from the four chess matches with David this morning, saw David’s attitude of not admitting defeat, and immediately associated it with his own initial state, hence making the above inference.

David’s face immediately stiffened, staring blankly at Yang Xiao.

He knew his own matters best. Before, there was no wise person to point out his problems, and now Yang Xiao was like a sharp needle, unceremoniously piercing his overly inflated balloon.

Scenes from the past flashed through his mind,

The pride in David’s heart, like the air in a balloon, was slowly released through that tiny hole.

Indeed, since becoming the base station chief ten years ago, in this relatively isolated base station, his mentality had indeed started to inflate.

Surrounded by forests and barren hills for hundreds of miles around the base station, there were few opportunities to contact the outside world.

As the boss, David would only occasionally go out a few times a month, spending most of his time inside the base station. Here, he was the boss, he was the King, and it was impossible for his mentality not to swell.

Besides, without anyone to challenge him, how could his skills possibly improve?

David’s mouth twitched a few times, took a deep breath, then stood up and bowed deeply to Yang Xiao.

Yang Xiao was startled, and quickly stood up shaking his hands frantically:

”Aiyo, Station Chief, what are you doing, you really flatter me, your subordinate is babbling nonsense, please don’t take it to heart!”

”Master Yang, no, Master Yang, you really understand me, what is called a word that wakes up the dreamer? That’s you!”

”Ah, Station Chief Sir, it’s not that I am very clever, it’s just that your subordinates all fear you, perhaps they saw your problem a long time ago, but they dare not tell you about it.

I am different, though; I have a worthless life, and am young and ignorant, with an uncontrollable mouth. Right, please don’t blame me, that would be best.”

”Master Yang, look at what you’re saying. You pointed out the issue that has troubled me for ten years. Although I am a bit arrogant and tyrannical, I still can discern right from wrong.

Actually, what you just said about my subordinates is only half right, they are indeed afraid of me and dare not point out my shortcomings, but they lack the sophisticated chess skills you have, and they don’t have your vision, so naturally they can’t see the essence of the problem.”

David deeply admired Yang Xiao.

Yang Xiao intentionally won a slight victory over David in the first game this morning, on one hand to respect his face, and on the other to show off his own skills, wanting to leave a profound impression on him.

Honestly, if Yang Xiao now wanted to survive on the Purple Origin Planet and break free from his status as a truant, he needed to demonstrate some real talents and gain David’s recognition.

In the field of Genetic Evolution, his level was too low to earn everyone’s recognition, but fortunately, he had some talent in Go, which came in handy.

He had already gained recognition from Luo Meng in this regard and naturally was not afraid that David would not acknowledge him.

What he did not expect, however, was that David was not as humble as Luo Meng and could not easily obtain his recognition, so in the end, he simply went all out, directly forcing the other party to kneel down, completely defeating his opponent, and making him truly convinced.

Pointing out the obstacle to David’s improvement in chess is actually a common pattern in the Go community. On this point, Yang Xiao, as an Earthling and a citizen of Xuanming Country where Go originated, was naturally very familiar with.

David had become the chief of the base station, so naturally, he was not a foolish person. Upon realizing his shortcomings, he also suddenly came to his senses.

With a master-level expert right in front of him, how could he waste such an opportunity?

With a ”thump”,

David knelt in front of Yang Xiao,

”Master Yang, please take me as your disciple?”

Yang Xiao: ”....”

Crap, is this playing too big?
