Super Gene Hunting Ground

”Let me introduce you, this is my Go teacher, Yang Xiao.”

The owner of the Genetic Store looked at Yang Xiao with a gleam in his eyes,

”I’ve been hearing from people at the base these days that Station Chief Dai has taken a master whose Go skills are excellent. Seeing it for myself today, indeed, he’s young and promising. Congratulations Station Chief Dai for finding such a reputable teacher.”

Dai Wei laughed heartily.

Yang Xiao merely nodded slightly and said:

”Owner Gu is overpraising me, I only know a little, and we learn from each other with Station Chief Dai. It’s Station Chief Dai who respects me and insists on giving me the title of a master, but really, playing Go is just about learning and sparring with each other.”

Yang Xiao’s words were extremely pleasing to Dai Wei’s ears, and his appreciation for Yang Xiao’s character deepened.

The store owner then said:

”I’m also very fond of Go, but I’m no match for Station Chief Dai. When there’s time, please, Master Yang, give me some guidance.”

”Hehe, sure thing, we learn from each other.”

Yang Xiao said modestly.

Dai Wei said:

”Owner Gu, we’ve come today to help Master Yang increase his Genetic Evolution Level. His Four Attributes are currently around 65, and I have eighty million Crystal Coins here to help him break through to King Level evolution.”

As he spoke, Dai Wei passed a Black Gold Card to Owner Gu.

Owner Gu took the card,

”No problem, it shouldn’t take all eighty million. Let’s upgrade first, and we’ll deduct the Crystal Coins later based on the actual usage.”

With that said, he gestured towards the shelves inside the counter, and a Crystal Bottle filled with red liquid flew in front of Yang Xiao.

”Master Yang, this is the Strength Attribute Genetic Potion. Take a small sip first to try it out, and gradually increase the amount. This bottle should be enough to boost your Strength to 70.”

Yang Xiao thanked him and started sipping a little from the bottle.

”Hiss,”

A strong current surged into his body, and Yang Xiao’s body trembled slightly.

Such a strong current, the Genetic Potions on this planet seem to contain more powerful energy than those on Earth.

Yang Xiao had also drunk concentrated Genetic Potions before, but the sensation of the current had never been this intense.

The memory of it was very profound.

Yang Xiao tried to drink a few more sips, the current in his body grew stronger and stronger, coursing through his whole body, the genes inside him were changing, and he could even hear a strange sound inside his body, like the feeling of seeds sprouting in the spring.

Because the time Yang Xiao needed to drink the potion was quite long, Dai Wei and Owner Gu went off to play a game of chess, leaving their assistants to watch over Yang Xiao.

Leia stood beside Yang Xiao, her beautiful eyes moving, watching over him.

About half an hour or so, Yang Xiao finished absorbing a bottle of red Genetic Potion, and he concentrated to check his attribute skills system in his mind, beginning to improve his Strength Attribute.

66,

67,

68,

”Hmm?”

After Yang Xiao upgraded his Strength Attribute to 68, he suddenly found that he did not have enough Evolution Energy to upgrade it again.

Damn, I should have known this would happen.

Dai Wei and Owner Gu were playing chess, occasionally glancing over at Yang Xiao with the corners of their eyes.

They saw Yang Xiao standing there as if pondering some problem.

Dai Wei stopped and asked:

”Master Yang, is something wrong?”

”Well, uh, it seems, it seems that the energy of one bottle of Red Potion isn’t enough. The Strength Attribute only upgraded to 68 points, and then there was no energy left.”

”That’s impossible, right? This bottle of concentrated Strength Attribute potion can definitely boost your Strength from 65 to 70 points. Just a few days ago, someone came here, and their Strength was raised from 62 to 70 points, and they didn’t even finish one bottle.”

Owner Gu also turned his head to look at Yang Xiao, with a puzzled expression.

Yang Xiao spread his hands, helplessly saying:

”It’s true.”

”How can that be? Gu Mi, give Master Yang another bottle of blue potion, the one for increasing Wisdom. Usually, even if someone’s Wisdom is raised from 61 to 70 points, they don’t finish one bottle.”

Owner Gu’s assistant, Gu Mi, brought a bottle of blue potion in front of Yang Xiao.

Yang Xiao didn’t stand on ceremony and started drinking the potion eagerly, taking a sip and resting for a bit, allowing his body to slowly absorb the Evolution Energy.

David and Gu Mi lost their interest in playing chess; instead, they sat beside the Go board, watching Yang Xiao.

This time, while drinking the potion, Yang Xiao was upgrading his Wisdom Attribute.

”66,”

”67,”

”68,”

Huh?

Ran out of Evolution Energy again?

Yang Xiao turned the bottle upside down, adopting a greedy appearance, shaking it vigorously until the last drop of the blue liquid flowed into his mouth.

Seeing Yang Xiao’s behavior, David felt a vague discomfort in his heart.

If, as Yang Xiao had mentioned, there were still 2 points remaining in each Attribute that haven’t been completed, then that would indeed cost him a fortune.

The energy required for the last two points, 69 and 70, to upgrade would be at least as much as for 66, 67, 68 – perhaps even more.

After each attribute upgrade, even more Evolution Energy is required for the next improvement.

Calculating this way, not only today’s 80 million Crystal Coins had gone down the drain, but it would probably take another 80 million or even 100 million to fulfill Yang Xiao’s Evolution requirements.

David was just a base station chief, with a monthly salary of 8 million Crystal Coins; in a year, that would barely add up to about 100 million.

Spending two years’ salary to help Yang Xiao complete his King Level Evolution was really painful.

Sure enough, trying to take on a Grandmaster-level master was not that easy.

What if Yang Xiao later wants to evolve to the Emperor Level?

Unthinkable!

David felt an inexplicable bout of nervousness, and fine beads of sweat appeared on his forehead.

Yang Xiao pretended to be helpless and muttered:

”What’s going on, the Wisdom Attribute only upgraded to 68 points before running out of energy.”

Hearing this, David blurted out somewhat painfully,

”Boss Gu, are the potions in your store expired?”

”Pfft!”

Boss Gu was drinking water from a cup, and when he heard David’s words, he spurted the water out, drenching David’s face with tea.

David: ”...”

”What joke are you making?” Boss Gu said loudly: ”When have our potions ever been expired? That’s never happened before. This batch of potions was just shipped over from Witch Star not long ago, how could it be expired?”

Boss Gu was quite agitated.

Saying that the potions in his shop were expired was like smashing his reputation—worse than death to him.

David wiped his tea-soaked face with his hand and asked in a daze:

”Then, Master Yang?”

Boss Gu pondered for a moment, then said:

”Master Yang’s situation is special; the Genetic Potion he requires for his Genetic Evolution is twice as much or even more than that of ordinary people, and this kind of situation isn’t without precedent.”

”Oh, who else is there? How come I’ve never heard of it?”

”Of course you don’t know; that Grandmaster from our Imperial Palace, the number one in the Imperial Chess Arena, needed over three times the usual amount of Genetic Potion to upgrade her Wisdom Attribute back in the day. I happened to see this information in the internal documents of the Genetic Store.”

”And what about Master Yang?”

”Master Yang is even more terrifying.”

”Huh?”

”The number one Grandmaster in the Imperial Chess Arena only had her Wisdom Attribute upgrade being much harder than ordinary people, the rest of her Attributes were average. Whereas now, Master Yang’s situation is that all Four Attributes are a lot more difficult than an ordinary person’s, basically like four huge pitfalls.”

With a ”whoosh” sound,

David couldn’t sit steady, and he fell right off the chair.

Crap, I knew supporting a Grandmaster-level master wouldn’t be easy!

I thought I had found a bargain, but this is a bottomless pit!
