Super Gene Hunting Ground

David was startled, looking at Yang Xiao,

”Master Yang, what do you mean?”

”I personally think that the barbarians changing their robbery strategy suddenly must be due to some incident that requires them to obtain a large amount of Purple Origin Crystal Stones. Moreover, they must have felt that the previous methods could not satisfy their needs, which is why they decided to take the risk of robbing the mines during the daytime.”

David nodded and said,

”What kind of situation could the barbarians encounter? I’ve been at this base for decades, and as the station chief for over ten years, the barbarians have never really changed.”

”That was before; now, who knows.”

Yang Xiao wanted to say that the people from Ice Wolf Island who had fled and joined the barbarians were definitely up to no good, leading to the change in events, but he held back these words.

Although Yang Xiao didn’t have a favorable impression of the people from Ice Wolf Island, they were, after all, on an alien planet. Fundamentally, both Yang Xiao and the people from Ice Wolf Island were Earthlings, part of one family, who should be united and help each other rather than sabotaging and framing one another.

Thus, Yang Xiao did not reveal this.

Of course, David and the others weren’t fools, and they immediately thought of the fugitive miners.

”It must be those escaped miners who have given the barbarians bad ideas, changing the way they demand Crystal Stones.”

”What ideas could those miners have?”

”I don’t know how those miners got mixed up with the barbarians, why didn’t the barbarians kill them?”

...

After pondering for a moment, David said to Yang Xiao:

”Master Yang, you come from Earth and have some understanding of your compatriots, do you have any suggestions?”

”I don’t have any ideas for dealing with the barbarians, but I do have a method that could reduce the losses at the mines and diminish the barbarians’ attacks on them.”

”Oh? What’s the good method? Tell me,” David looked at Yang Xiao with glowing eyes.

David himself knew that capturing the barbarians in the mountains was extremely difficult, and it might even result in his own people being eaten by the barbarians.

David had known since he started working here decades ago that they didn’t have an effective method to deal with the barbarians; otherwise, they wouldn’t have let the barbarians extort them.

”The reason the barbarians dare to rob the mines during the daytime is that our mines accumulate a considerable number of Crystal Stones by the end of the day. This way, they can rob a large amount at once.

Our current management method is to collect all the mined stones once every afternoon. So we could change our management style, for example, collect stones twice a day, once at noon, and once in the evening, or even three times a day.

That way, the next time the barbarians come to rob the mines, they will find that the amount of Crystal Stones they can rob each time has significantly decreased, but they still have to risk several barbarians being killed each time.

If the benefit doesn’t outweigh the risk, I believe the barbarians will gradually abandon this method.”

After listening, David and the others nodded, feeling the solution seemed good, at least it was more effective than anything else they had before and could reduce losses.

Yang Xiao went on to say:

”Of course, we can’t let the barbarians rob us recklessly. We can set up two joint patrol teams, dispatch two Spaceships to continuously patrol the twenty mines.

Once barbarians are spotted coming to rob, we can respond promptly and quickly mobilize troops from the surrounding mines for support. If we beat the barbarians hard twice, I think they’ll not dare to be so bold afterward.”

After hearing this, David nodded in approval and said,

”Master Yang’s suggestion is good, having both a soft and a hard approach, being prepared for both; not only does it reduce the gains of the barbarians’ robbery but also increases their risk. I think it’s feasible.”

Luo Meng and others also followed,

”This response is indeed feasible, Master Yang’s strategy is brilliant.”

Yang Xiao smiled and said:

”I’m just making a casual suggestion. However, by doing this, everyone might have a hard time, patrolling back and forth every day. To completely solve this problem, we still need to think of another way.”

David said:

”Does Master Yang have any brilliant ideas?”

”It’s not about brilliant ideas. To untie the bell, one needs the person who tied it. Let me ask Station Chief Dai, if you mobilize all your resources, can you completely eliminate the threat of the indigenous tribes?”

David fell silent for a moment and shook his head,

”No, not only can’t I, all mining base camps are facing the tough problem of the indigenous tribes. Across the entire Purple Origin Star, there are many indigenous tribes, and they are fragmented into different tribes.

Although they cannot confront us head-on, with the help of the forest and monster pets, their sneak attacks trouble us greatly.

Many bases have organized sweeps against the indigenous tribes, none of which were successful. Some even faced the wild revenge of the indigenous tribes, with the worst cases being the indigenous tribes mercilessly slaughtering all miners at the mining camps in the middle of the night, causing those camps immense losses due to halted crystal stone extraction.

Therefore, later on, everyone just turned a blind eye, giving them some crystal stones, only wishing for peaceful coexistence.”

”Given the circumstances, why doesn’t Station Chief Dai try to pacify the indigenous tribes?”

David was startled,

”Pacify the indigenous tribes?”

”Yes, send someone to directly contact the indigenous tribes, negotiate, and agree to a truce, living peacefully with each other. It’s much better than the current killing back and forth, where neither side can live in peace.”

David sighed after listening,

”We have thought about this method, but the indigenous tribes refuse to contact us. They have always believed that they are the true masters of this planet and we are the foreign invaders.

Thus, all the indigenous tribes see us as enemies, their goal is even to drive us out of Purple Origin Star, if only they had the strength to do so.”

Yang Xiao fell silent upon hearing this.

The situation David mentioned indeed exists—it is the enmity between invaders and the invaded, irreconcilable, similar to when Ice Wolf Island invaded Xuanming Country. How could the people of Xuanming Country compromise and make peace with the invaders from Ice Wolf Island?

Yang Xiao’s current position and identity are complex. If we’re talking about adversaries, Witch Star invading Earth is by itself an enemy.

Now, kidnapped to Purple Origin Star to work as a slave in the mines, he should be allying with the indigenous tribes to resist the rule of people like Dai.

But what’s the use of just resisting blindly and stupidly?

Witch Star has the power to destroy entire planets. Under such a disparity in strength, direct confrontation is unwise—we must save the nation through a curve [indirect approach].

Just like Yang Xiao right now, he detests Witch Star in his heart, but what he can do now is to infiltrate Witch Star’s ranks, using their power to strengthen himself, and find the opportunity to fight against Witch Star. Perhaps one day he will have the strength to save the entire Earth.

Yang Xiao is not someone driven by lofty ideals, but saving Earth is not merely an ideal now—it is a personal concern and interest.

Yang Xiao’s friends, perhaps even his family, are all on Earth, controlled by the people of Witch Star.

The humans and civilization on Earth are in danger of extinction, at any moment they could be wiped out by the terrifying power of Witch Star,

If one day all of humanity on Earth were eradicated, Yang Xiao would suddenly find himself without a home, like a speck of dust in the starry sky, drifting with the wind, no origin, no destination.

Deep in his heart, Yang Xiao’s passion still burns fiercely.

It felt to him that somewhere in the grand scheme of things, he should step forward, seek the opportunity to connect with the indigenous tribes—perhaps, from them, he could find some form of aid.

Yang Xiao suddenly asked:

”Station Chief Dai, if Witch Star’s power can annihilate billions of people on Earth overnight, why can’t it extinguish the indigenous tribes on Purple Origin Star?”
