Super Gene Hunting Ground

The mermaid emerged from the water and swam up to Luo Meng, saying softly:

”Captain Luo, what do you need me for?”

”I want to ask you, a few days ago, one of our mines collapsed, and the miners were buried inside. They said they dug an escape tunnel that led all the way to your pond, and from there, they managed to escape. Is this true?”

”Oh? That incident, yes, there really is a cave that connects to our pond, now the whole mining pit is flooded.”

Luo Meng was stunned, it seems Yang Xiao and others did not lie, so he asked:

”Did you see them escape from here yesterday? Why didn’t you eat them?”

”Yesterday? No way, no one escaped from the cave yesterday.”

”Not yesterday? Are you sure?”

”I discovered that mine cave a few days ago and even swam inside to check, how could it be yesterday?”

Luo Meng’s heart sank. Yang Xiao was clearly rescued only yesterday, how could the timing be off? It seems that Yang Xiao and others had escaped from the tunnel earlier. So why didn’t they call for help sooner?

Luo Meng looked at the mermaid and asked again:

”Was there anything unusual inside the tunnel?”

”Unusual? Yes, of course, there was!”

”What was it?”

Luo Meng was shocked.

”It’s all water, hehe...”

The mermaid laughed.

Luo Meng’s expression changed, and he scolded:

”Be serious, if I get displeased, I’ll just drain the water from your pond and dry you into fish jerky.”

The mermaid girl looked angrily at Luo Meng, having no choice but to shut her mouth, looking aggrieved and pitiful.

Luo Meng stared at the mermaid girl,

”There’s nothing happening in that mine, try to stay out of it, and it’s best to seal the entrance with rocks and mud.”

”Ah, a broken mine, who would be interested in playing inside? It’s dark and cramped, I even have trouble turning around in there, only some small eels and loaches occasionally wander in to play, just treat it as a playground.”

”When can you evolve to Emperor Level?”

”I wish I could, but this pond has too few evolution resources, maybe it would take decades or a hundred years before I can evolve to Emperor Level. You are not willing to help me, but if you would, I would definitely devote myself to you, hehe.”

Luo Meng was stunned and said:

”There’s limited help I can provide. Here’s what, in the future, when the mine kills some attacking monsters, I’ll throw the corpses into the pond for you to eat.”

”Really? Thank you so much, big brother Luo.”

The mermaid giggled.

Luo Meng said indifferently:

”Don’t try to seduce me; it’s pointless. To humans, a fish’s only use is to be stewed in a pot and eaten.”

”You, hmph!”

The mermaid stared angrily at Luo Meng.

”I have one condition for helping you, and if you can’t meet it, I will just blow up the pond, drain the water, as you know the consequences.”

”Go ahead and say it, no need for threats. Anyway, my little life is in your control,”

The mermaid succumbed and said softly.

As a fish person, only after evolving to the Emperor Level could she transform into a human form, leave the pond, and before this, the pond was her life.

”Things are simple. If someone else asks you when that group of Miners escaped from the tunnel, just say it was yesterday. Remember, this is an easy task for you, but if you mess it up, I’ll make you pay.”

”Why do we have to lie? Doesn’t big brother Luo always tell me to be honest?”

”Don’t ask too many questions, just remember it.”

”Alright, but I do recall something unusual, I wonder if it’s related to those Miners.”

”What’s the matter? Speak.”

”A few days ago, I was breaking through in my evolution at the bottom of the pond, when suddenly, a big chaos erupted in the pond, and when I came out from my hiding place, I found the entire pond littered with floating dead fish bodies,

sigh, you know, the number of fish in my pond has now reduced to less than a third of what it was before, delaying my Genetic Evolution by many years,

this year during the fish spawning season, I guess I’ll have to starve a bit and save more offspring.”

”Hmm? Got any bizarre incidents like this? Did you find out the reason afterward?”

”I investigated but found nothing, and there are even more strange phenomena.”

”What?”

”All those floating dead fish bodies, by dawn, they had mostly disappeared, you know, those were tens of thousands of fish, many of which were large fish at the Advanced Realm of Enhanced Genes, if I had eaten all those fish, my Genetic Evolution could have possibly moved up a rank.”

”Buzz!”

A buzzing sound echoed in Luo Meng’s mind, as a flash of Lightning passed through his brain.

He recalled how Yang Xiao had abruptly broken through the King Level Evolution.

”Yang Xiao and others had clearly left the pond long ago, why the lie? Could those dead fish have been eaten by them?

Hmm, this could explain why Yang Xiao managed to break through to the King Level so quickly, because they stayed here eating the bodies of those fish which contained Evolution Energy from Mutation Fish,

Just how could they consume so many fish? Also, how did the fish not rot in just a few days?”

Luo Meng imagined some possibilities, yet some questions remained unanswered.

”Alright, I’ve noted the situations you mentioned, remember, do not speak of this to outsiders, if someone asks, just say the Miners left the pond yesterday, and you know nothing else, understood?”

”Alright, I understand, Big brother Luo, come and swim with me next time? Teehee!”

Luo Meng gave the fish person a glance and turned to leave.

The fish person watched Luo Meng’s departing back, internally vowing with bitterness that one day she would evolve to Emperor Level and wouldn’t have to endure their nonsense anymore.

The fish person turned and dived into the water, swimming towards the mine tunnel.

When the fish person emerged from the cave into the mine tunnel, she saw an eel sucking up the water vigorously near the Crystal Stone.

The golden eel became rigid with fright upon seeing the fish person suddenly appear.

”Hehe, does the water taste good?”

”Master, master, I didn’t mean it, I’ve been guarding the Crystal Stone for you, and I couldn’t help but drink a few mouthfuls of water.”

”Hehe, aren’t you planning to marry me after completing your evolution? Come on, I’ll grant your wish today, baby.”

”Ah? Master,”

”Yah!”

Suddenly, the fish person opened her huge mouth, slurped the four-meter-long, arm-thick golden eel into her mouth, chewed it a few times, and then swallowed it down.

From a distance, hundreds of golden eels trembled at this scene.

”What are you looking at? Get back to work, or I’ll eat all of you.”

The group of golden eels ”swished” their sharp teeth furiously biting at the purple stones in the tunnel.
