Super Gene Hunting Ground

Yang Xiao felt as though he had returned to the initial situation of playing chess with Gu Bo at the Genetic Store.

At first, it took him dozens of seconds just to control a single chess piece.

Fortunately, Gu Bo had plenty of free time back then and endured the training of Yang Xiao’s spiritual power in order to learn his chess skills.

Of course, Yang Xiao’s current speed of controlling the chess pieces was still much faster than before, it just felt rather strenuous.

It’s like someone who can lift a hundred-pound stone, but now each stone weighs seventy to eighty pounds. It’s manageable, but over time, one would get exhausted.

After about twenty moves, Yang Xiao began to reveal his edge in chess, first by consuming a piece of the opponent in a ko fight, then capturing three more of the opponent’s stones.

David’s mind was jolted as if a needle had pricked his consciousness, which surprised him greatly.

You know, with less than twenty moves walked by Yang Xiao, he felt like there was a needle on his back. Even when he played against the master from the Purple Origin Planet, it wouldn’t be until about fifty moves before he felt such pressure.

Truth be told, Yang Xiao did have some natural talent in Go. In junior high, he joined the Kongming City Go Association and became a student of Chen Guohua, the proudest disciple of the then Chess Saint.

At that time, every Friday night, his father would drive him to the Chess Institute in Nanmu City, Kongming City, and he wouldn’t return to his own city until Sunday evening.

In the Chess Institute, he mostly played against senior students, and he had the chance to play one game with his master Chen Guohua every weekend.

Originally, his father had wanted him to pursue a career in Go, but by the time he was in his second year of high school, Yang Xiao, seeing that a few of his close friends were in relationships, felt immensely eager during his adolescence.

At that time, he was still a talented individual, and there were not a few girls who liked him, but how could he have time to date female students when he had school during the day, had to go online to play a game of Go after finishing his homework at night, and even more so had to train at the Go Institute in Nanmu City, Kongming City, on weekends?

He felt it was pointless to play Go all day without even having time for romancing girls,

and after witnessing those highly talented seniors at the Kongming City Chess Institute, he felt it was extremely difficult to carve out a path in the Go community,

and ultimately he laid it all out to his father, decisively giving up on Go and shifting his focus onto college entrance exams.

Now that he thought about it, he felt some regrets.

David’s Go skills had matured, remaining calm in the face of danger, he converged his spirit and concentrated his spiritual power to engage in the battle with Yang Xiao.

With Yang Xiao’s skill in chess, he had a general grasp of the whole game situation, so even if David occasionally captured a few of Yang Xiao’s pieces, he couldn’t exert mental pressure on him.

On the other hand, for David, it was different.

Yang Xiao won more than he lost, and each time he captured a few of David’s pieces, David felt a fierce killing aura, as if a sharpened needle was stabbing towards his heart, causing his mind to tremble.

If David didn’t use spiritual power when playing chess, there would be no problem, but this was also a rare opportunity to temper his spiritual power, so why would he miss it?

No one else in the entire base had chess skills that could put him under pressure. Coupled with the fact that his spiritual power had already reached a certain level, playing chess with people like Luo Meng could not enhance his spiritual power, so he simply grew too lazy to play with them.

David hadn’t felt this sensation in a long time,

with both excitement and tension in his heart.

”Clack,”

”Clack,”

...

The room was silent, save for the clear sound of the chess pieces landing.

The chess pieces and the board were made of jade, and the sound of their placement was very crisp.

Luo Meng was watching the two play chess on the side.

Originally still proud of his victory over Yuri the day before, Luo Meng realized just how far he was from their level when he saw the game between Yang Xiao and David.

More importantly, he suddenly discovered that the level Yang Xiao showed when playing chess with him on a daily basis might not be even a third of what he was showing now.

This made him internally startled, thinking,

”Fortunately, I had the foresight not to force Yang Xiao to teach me chess. With such a divine being, as long as he can guide me often in the future, it’ll benefit me for a lifetime!”

Of course, he also knew that after this game of chess, Yang Xiao’s fate would no longer be in his control, but in David’s hands.

And because of Yang Xiao, he himself also gained an additional link to Station Head David.

”Damn it, I only gave Yang Xiao twenty-five million Crystal Coins just now; I should have given more, like thirty million, or just given it all, to really show my true love for him.”

Thinking this way, he made up his mind to find an opportunity to give the remaining twenty-five million Crystal Coins to Yang Xiao to help him break through the King Level Evolution Bottleneck.

Luo Meng suddenly had a premonition that perhaps Yang Xiao would become a benefactor in his life.

”Snap,”

The crisp sound of a chess piece landing interrupted Luo Meng’s reverie. He looked carefully and found beads of sweat on David’s forehead.

Looking at the chessboard, the two were battling it out in the midgame, roughly on par with each other, but it seemed Yang Xiao was gaining a slight upper hand.

However, when Luo Meng looked at Yang Xiao, he saw a relaxed face, no tension or unease, and not a single bead of sweat.

Lucy came in with breakfast, and when she saw Yang Xiao playing chess with David, she was momentarily stunned.

Luo Meng quickly gestured for Lucy to stand aside so as not to disturb them.

So, Lucy stood aside with the tray, watching the two play chess.

David’s pace of play was getting slower, taking longer to think with each move, hesitating for a long time before daring to make a move, and sometimes when about to place a piece, he would second-guess and hurriedly reconsider.

Yang Xiao saw Lucy standing aside with the tray of food, and the scent made him feel somewhat hungry.

Yang Xiao glanced at David across from him, who looked tense, highly focused, his eyes fixed on the board and immersed in thought.

Around David, there was a faintly undulating current of air.

”Is it not too friendly to slap someone in the face the first time we meet?”

Yang Xiao asked himself, then placed a chess piece, filling one of his own liberties.

David saw it, suddenly got excited and exclaimed,

”Good!”

A black stone swiftly landed, filling another of Yang Xiao’s liberties, turning that small group of over a dozen of Yang Xiao’s stones completely dead.

Yang Xiao slapped his thigh, pretending to regret and cried out,

”Ouch, I made a mistake, can I take that move back?”

”How can that be? Once a piece is placed, you can’t regret the move, that’s the rule!”

David laughed, as a drop of sweat rolled down from his forehead and streamed along his cheek.

Yang Xiao pretended to be helpless and said,

”Alright then!”

After that, David’s mood lightened up, not as pressured as before, and the speed of his play sped up as well.

When the two came down to the endgame, they were essentially evenly matched.

Finally, the game concluded.

Luo Meng immediately helped the two count their scores.

Yang Xiao was slightly ahead with an advantage of 3 pieces.

David looked at Yang Xiao and sighed,

”The younger generation is indeed formidable!”

”Not at all, just pure luck, it’s all thanks to the stationmaster being easy on me.”

Standing aside, Lucy seized the opportunity and said:

”Master Yang, your breakfast is ready.”

”Oh, I’m actually really hungry,”

Yang Xiao finished speaking, then looked at David, meaning, I’m hungry, can I eat first?

David laughed heartily and said,

”Come on, let’s have breakfast together,”

Then he looked at Luo Meng and added,

”You join us too.”
