Luo Meng also showed good sense, gathering everyone from the other two mines into the one Yang Xiao had just gone down into.

Descending into the mine, Yang Xiao was immediately greeted by Zhao Benling and Du Tianxing, among others,

”Yang Xiao, you haven’t been back to the mine for the past few days, nothing’s the matter, I hope?”

”I’m fine, nothing’s the matter. Don’t worry, everyone. Um, once everyone’s here, I have some news to announce.”

A moment later, Gu Beifeng and others descended to the mine and gathered around.

Yang Xiao said:

”Long story short, I’m here to tell everyone that I am now the Go teacher for base commander David, and I might not be able to come back and work with you all in the mines for a while.”

On hearing this, everyone first paused, then exclaimed:

”Yang Xiao, that’s great news.”

”Being Commander David’s teacher, we’ll probably get some preferential treatment from now on.”

...

Yang Xiao gave everyone a look, signaling them to be mindful of their words, and everyone got the message and stopped shouting about.

”Commander David has agreed to reduce our mining workload. Everyone can just work normally, and take a rest whenever tired, no longer requiring a set quota to be mined each day.”

”Really?”

”That’s great, finally we won’t have to be so tired; these days have been killer.”

...

Yang Xiao continued loudly:

”Of course, when someone treats us well, we should know to return the favor, right? It’s okay to rest appropriately, but still try to do as much work as our physical strength allows!”

As Yang Xiao spoke, he winked, and everyone immediately responded in a loud voice:

”Don’t worry, we’ll work hard.”

”Good, that’s the spirit. By the way, the base is short two logistics personnel. I’ll pick two people from among you, Zhao Benling is one, and then there’s...”

The rest of them looked nervously at Yang Xiao.

Everyone hoped to escape the dark mines and work in the logistics department of the base, but apart from Zhao Benling who was on good terms with Yang Xiao, no one else dared to step forward and ask Yang Xiao to take them along.

Yang Xiao glanced over everyone, with Du Tianxing and Gu Beifeng looking at him with eager eyes.

Yang Xiao felt troubled, not wanting to seem unfair in his choice, so he said:

”Let’s do this. We’ll draw lots to decide on the other spot. It’s fair that way. Plus, don’t rush, Commander David said, in the future, there will be other job opportunities which he will consider you for first.”

This was a dose of comfort for everyone.

”Also, I have another piece of good news for you. If you perform well in your work, you’ll be considered for temporary residency on this planet. After three years, it could become permanent, and after that, your status won’t be as miners anymore, you will gain personal freedom.”

For these people stuck mining in the pits every day, nothing was more exciting than the idea of freedom.

These days, everyone had been pondering that even if they escaped the mine, it would be hard to get a foothold on this planet, and the mood was very pessimistic.

Now, the post-dated check Yang Xiao brought gave everyone a jolt of hope.

If enduring hardship for three years could result in freedom, everyone would definitely bear and endure, looking forward to that day.

Yang Xiao then whispered into Du Tianxing’s ear:

”Hold off on the plan to dig the secret tunnel for escape.”

”But we’ve already dug so much, a month more and we would surely break through.”

”No matter, just bury the entrance to the tunnel, we might be able to use it in the future.”

Du Tianxing nodded his head.

”Alright, everyone, now let’s draw straws,”

Yang Xiao spoke as he casually picked up thirteen small stones from the ground and placed them on the surface, saying:

”Everyone just grab one at random. After you’ve picked it up, flip it and place it back on the ground. One of the stones has a mark I made on the bottom, and the person who gets that stone will go with Zhao Benling to work in the base’s logistics.”

These small stones were all lying flat on the ground; it was impossible to see any special marking on the bottom.

Gu Beifeng and the others didn’t notice the mark Yang Xiao had just made and randomly picked up a stone each, examined it closely, and placed it on the ground.

It seemed that none of the stones had any marks, but when Monster Chi Lin from Green Dragon City flipped his stone over, there was a clear indentation, carved by Yang Xiao’s finger just moments ago.

”Well, looks like Chi Lin is lucky. Chi Lin, you and Zhao Benling will come back with me to the base.”

Chi Lin was excited inside and really wanted to jump up and shout, but seeing the sullen expressions of Gu Beifeng and the others, he suppressed his excitement and said:

”Ah, I’m just lucky today, or who should I give it to? Anyway, I’m used to it here already.”

”Chi Lin, don’t make sarcastic remarks, man. It’s your luck, and we wouldn’t feel right taking it.”

Gu Beifeng said.

Yang Xiao patted Gu Beifeng and Du Tianxing on the shoulders, saying:

”It’s up to you two to look after the brothers here. I’ll ask Captain Luo to take care of you, and have him bring you a Monster corpse every day to supply you with Evolution energy. Hang in there, our future still holds hope.”

Everyone nodded.

Du Tianxing said:

”Yang Xiao, take care at the base. It’s pretty straightforward here, just mining, so don’t worry about us.”

Yang Xiao and the others left the mine, with Yang Xiao taking Chi Lin and Zhao Benling on board the Spaceship, and returned to the base with David.

Du Tianxing and the rest split into two groups to continue mining. Now, with renewed hope in their hearts, everyone was feeling much better.

At least they had their own people up there!

...

That evening, the base’s Go competition selection continued.

After yesterday’s elimination round, 17 people made it into tonight’s contest.

”How do you compete with 17 people? Who was left without a match last night?”

”Last night, Captain Luo was impressive, winning one hundred million Gold Coins from Yuri in one match. He doesn’t even need to participate in the Purple Origin Star Go contest anymore.”

”I heard that in the end, the station manager agreed to a draw and only paid out fifty million Gold Coins.”

”How did Captain Luo’s poor Go skills suddenly improve so much these past few days? Does he have some sort of trick?”

”Don’t you know? I heard that one of Captain Luo’s Miners is a Go expert from Earth, and Captain Luo plays Go with him every day, which is why he’s improved so rapidly.”

”Yuri also plays with him every day and has improved even more than Captain Luo, so why did he lose to him?”

”The Earthling must have taught Captain Luo some secret techniques.”

”Who’s this Earth person you speak of?”

”It’s the young man that Captain Luo brings back to the base every evening, Luo Meng has even let him use his room for his own.”

”Ah, is it that guy at the entrance?”

Everyone turned their heads to look at the entrance, just as the station manager, accompanied by a young man, walked into the hall.

The chatter in the hall immediately quieted down.

All of the adults’ gazes were focused on the young man beside David.

David scanned the crowd and announced in a loud voice:

”I’d like to introduce everyone to my master!”

Buzz!

Everyone felt as if their heads were about to explode as they stared dumbfoundedly at David and Yang Xiao.
