Super Gene Hunting Ground

The cave fell silent again, save for the sound of running water, gurgling continuously.

Yang Xiao thought for a moment, then said:

”Don’t lose heart, everyone. I’ve been in contact with Luo Meng, David, and others at the base, and I’ve gathered some information.

Their Emperor Level evolution wasn’t achieved in a single day; progressing from King Level to Emperor Level can take a decade for the quick ones, several decades for the slow.

With our increased lifespans, as long as we get through these years, we all have the chance to evolve to Emperor Level in the future,

We might not be able to fully confront the people from Witch Star, but if we become stronger ourselves, we can always help humans on Earth secure some favorable policies,

And who knows, if one of us becomes a terrifying Genetic Evolution overlord in the future, we might be able to save Earth, right?”

With Yang Xiao’s words, everyone suddenly became excited.

”Yang Xiao, has your Beast Soul appeared? I have this premonition that you will become the overlord of Genetic Evolution. If that day comes, don’t forget each other in our prosperity!”

Du Tianxing said.

Everyone immediately began to inquire about Yang Xiao’s Beast Soul, after all, among the dozen or so people present, only Yang Xiao’s Beast Soul was yet to appear, but everyone had witnessed his Combat Power and Soul Skills, which were incredibly terrifying. This hinted that Yang Xiao’s Beast Soul would certainly be extraordinary.

Yang Xiao sighed and said:

”I’m also quite frustrated. Last time, David gave me evolution resources worth eighty million Crystal Coins, and with my Four Attributes evolved to 65 points on Earth, I thought I could break through to King Level at once. But unexpectedly, I’m still quite far off. I estimate it’ll take another eighty million to a hundred million Crystal Coins to complete my King Level Evolution.”

Everyone gasped upon hearing this.

”What kind of freak are you? I only spent a little over a hundred million Crystal Coins to evolve from High-Level Enhancement to King Level. From what you’re saying, it’ll take resources costing over three hundred million Crystal Coins to finish.”

”That’s why Yang Xiao’s Soul Skills are insanely powerful!”

...

”Ah, it’s about time. It’s past five o’clock now. Should we go down to check?”

The person with the watch spoke in the darkness.

”Okay, let’s slide down slowly. When we reach the mouth of the cave, everyone be careful. Gu Beifeng, you take the lead, go down and check the situation first. We’ll follow immediately.”

Gu Beifeng was at the bottom of the cave at the moment. Hearing Yang Xiao’s words, he responded,

”Alright.”

Then he turned his body around and quickly slid down along the water flow.

The rest also turned around and slid down one by one.

”It’s a pity that when this tunnel was dug, the ground wasn’t made very even; otherwise, it could have been turned into a Gao Shan slide.”

”I swear, can’t you be serious for once? Why not set up a children’s water park?”

”Ha ha....”

....

Gu Beifeng was the first to slide to the lower part of the cave. Seeing he was a few meters away from the exit, he immediately halted his motion and listened carefully.

Besides the gurgling of the water, no other sound was heard.

He estimated that the Wild Men must have left, since they couldn’t light a fire for smoke signals anymore, and there was no point lingering.

Besides, it was past five in the morning, if they didn’t leave now, once David and others arrived in their Spaceship, they’d surround the Wild Men.

Without Miners as hostages, David and his party would not be courteous, they would swarm in and wrap the Wild Men up like dumplings.

Gu Beifeng slid quietly down closer to the cave entrance – 5 meters, 4 meters, 3 meters, 2 meters, 1 meter.

Though the cave was pitch black, their eyes had adapted to the dark environment and could make out vague shapes faintly.

The night vision capability of Genetic Evolvers was better than that of normal people.

Peering through the entrance, no signs of activity or figures were visible outside.

Gu Beifeng had a flashlight in hand, and he tucked himself inside the cave, switched on the light from within, and shone it outside.

Indeed, beyond the ten-odd-meter-long entrance blasted open by Ah Bao, there was nothing but scattered rocks and puddles on the ground, no Wild Men to be seen.

Gu Beifeng slowly slid out of the cave, still cautious, using the flashlight to illuminate the distance, confirming no sight of Wild Men.

The cave was connected to the mine.

Gu Beifeng walked out of the cave slowly, shining his light towards the mine, and still didn’t spot any Wild Men.

So, he walked inside the mine and shone the light in both directions, and indeed there were no Wild Men to be found.

Still not giving up, he ran a few dozen meters to both ends of the mine pit. The light shone farther, confirming there was indeed no sight of the Wild Man.

Gu Beifeng, excited, ran back and called out into the cave:

”The Wild Man is gone, everyone come out.”

A dozen people slid out from the cave one by one, each taking a long breath of relief.

The cave was only about 1 meter high, and everyone had been unable to stand upright inside, feeling suffocated for so long, they had nearly gone mad.

Standing in the wide tunnel, they stretched their limbs, exclaiming in relief.

The accumulated water on the ground just covered the tops of their feet, while farther away, there was even less water.

”That’s right, the Wild Man must have left. Let’s first check the mine shaft, then get up to the mine site. Once we’re sure the Wild Man has left, we can come back and dig open that cave, let the water flood it to prevent Luo Meng and the others from noticing that we dug an escape passage,” Yang Xiao said.

The group ran toward the direction of the mine shaft.

Gu Beifeng took the lead.

Having narrowly escaped death, everyone was exhilarated, and they even burst into song along the way.

”I want to soar even higher,

Fly even higher,

My wings whip up the storm,

My heart roars,

...”

Holding the light, when Gu Beifeng was twenty or thirty meters away from the mine shaft, he suddenly froze.

The scene was completely different from what he remembered, the distance was all rubble, and it seemed the mine shaft ahead was blocked.

Startled, Gu Beifeng quickly ran over.

The closer he ran, the clearer he saw, the original excitement in his heart gradually disappeared, until it was completely gone, a chill rose from the bottom of his heart, as if he had fallen into an ice cave.

”Yang Xiao, quick, come and see,” Gu Beifeng said in shock, somewhat incoherently. He knew how deep that mine shaft was.

A mine shaft over a hundred meters deep, if it collapsed, there was no chance of escape.

Yang Xiao and the others were twenty or thirty meters away from Gu Beifeng. Suddenly feeling that something was not right, they all ran over together.

Then, everyone was dumbstruck.

Not a single person spoke.

The reality was right before their eyes, there was no need to ask.

Finally, Gu Beifeng sighed deeply and said:

”Do you all remember hearing a dull sound outside the cave earlier, followed by the shaking of the cave and the ground trembling? That was the Wild Man blowing up the mine shaft; they want to bury us alive in here!”

Gu Beifeng spoke feebly, his spirit instantly deflated.

Everyone was stunned, staring at the insurmountable rubble, their hearts sinking like they had plummeted to the seabed, the previous exhilaration swept away.

”It’s over, we’re really trapped this time.”

”We’re buried inside.”

”Darn, I forgot something, now there’s a real problem,” Old Nine shouted loudly.

Everyone was startled, looking at Old Nine.

”The air, how can we live without air? The mine shaft is buried, the oxygen inside is used up a bit by bit, we,”

Old Nine didn’t continue his sentence.

Different from sitting in the tunnel waiting for death, now they didn’t even have time to wait, everyone’s hearts were lifted once again.

”Yang Xiao, what do we do? Will Luo Meng come to rescue us?”

”There’s no way, the shaft is so deep, it can’t be dug out quickly. Our only chance is that escape passage, let’s go.”

Yang Xiao turned and ran toward the inside.

The others were startled for a moment, then also followed.
