Super Gene Hunting Ground

Yang Xiao spent two tense and uneasy days, even personally following Luo Meng on a trip to the mining camp, to remind Du Tianxing and others that at night they should gather inside a mine shaft to spend the night, lowering the elevator to the bottom of the shaft and turning off the switch.

Someone must stand guard on watch, in case savages jump down the mine shaft, then everyone must stand at the entrance and resist to the death.

Du Tianxing whispered:

”Yang Xiao, we can make use of the escape tunnel we dug before. The entrance of the tunnel is quite small; only one person can crawl through, and the tunnel inside is slightly bigger. We can hide inside, and then prop it up with stones from inside. If people outside don’t pay attention, they won’t realize it for a while, especially if we switch off all the tunnel lights at night.”

Yang Xiao nodded:

”That’s a good idea, not bad!”

Three days later, disaster did not befall Du Tianxing and the others, but instead struck another mining camp, where savages broke in, attacking the miners in the pit.

Thirty miners from Australia fought desperately, but how could they defeat Emperor Level savages?

The savages killed all thirty miners in the pit.

The next morning, the news shook the entire base.

David brought Yang Xiao to the attacked mining camp by spaceship. The bodies of those who had died in the tunnel had been carried out, laid out in a row on the ground of the mining camp.

The atmosphere at the mining camp was somewhat oppressive; the person responsible for this mining camp was You Jue and Yuri.

David’s face darkened as he said to the dozens of subordinates at the scene:

”Everyone, think of a solution. What should we do now? If this continues, our base will have to be shut down.

This time, the Eldest Prince has brought five hundred King Level Evolvers from Earth to our base. If I can’t ensure their safety, what’s the point of mining? How will I report to my superiors in the future?”

You Jue said through gritted teeth:

”Stationmaster, find the savages and kill them all, to put an end to future troubles.”

Yuri echoed:

”Right, we shouldn’t tolerate the savages. We must not negotiate peace with them or agree to give them Crystal Stones. We fight to the end.”

Luo Meng then said:

”How easy is it to eradicate the savages? We’ve all seen the situation over the years. Once savages enter the forest, they are like fish returning to the sea, extremely difficult to find, let alone capture. Not to mention, there are many Mutant Monsters in the forest, and our forces are limited. It’s strenuous and thankless.”

...

The scene divided into two factions, some advocating to pursue and kill the savages, while others suggested negotiating and, just like before, giving them a portion of the Crystal Stones.

Both sides argued, unable to convince each other, and the scene became somewhat noisy.

David looked at Yang Xiao, and took him to a quieter part of the mining camp.

”Master Yang, what’s your opinion?”

Yang Xiao had previously warned David that the savages might launch an attack in retaliation, and now it turned out that Yang Xiao’s warning was confirmed, which made David respect him even more.

Although he too felt that the savages might respond with attacks, his vigilance wasn’t as keen as Yang Xiao’s, and coupled with his lack of regard for the lives of miners, he didn’t take it too seriously.

For miners at the mining camp, it’s common for some to die for various reasons, and it’s unavoidable. David, who had worked in the mining camp for decades, had become accustomed, or rather numb, to it.

However, as he said before, this batch of miners transported from Earth was the first batch brought back by the Eldest Prince after implementing the Super Gene Hunting Ground plan on Earth. He couldn’t just let them all die, could he?

He had to at least have these miners dig out some Crystal Stones, make some achievements for the superiors to see, to prove that the Eldest Prince’s Super Gene Hunting Ground plan was effective.

Yang Xiao thought to himself, if you have no means, neither do I. The key issue is that my Cultivation is too weak to confront these savages head-on, and there isn’t even a basis for negotiation.

However, Yang Xiao always felt that there was something fishy about the recent relentless attacks and robberies by the savages, especially with the involvement of the escapees from Ice Wolf Island.

Yang Xiao also remembered what Luo Meng once told him, that the savages used Crystal Stones to feed their pet Monsters, then eat the flesh and blood of the Monsters to constantly enhance the energy for Genetic Evolution.

Perhaps there was some secret hidden within this.

But Yang Xiao couldn’t just send himself to die, could he?

After pondering for a moment, Yang Xiao said,

”The opposition is not a solution, we should make peace with the savages, find out what they are thinking now, and then negotiate a solution based on their demands. You have said it yourself, the savages cannot be completely eradicated. Moreover, our mining operations are scattered with limited manpower, we cannot defend everywhere. If we continue to confront them, the savages will eventually kill all the miners in every mine, and then there will be no point in maintaining this base.”

David nodded,

”But even if we want to make peace, I have no way of reaching out to the savages right now. These savages are cunning and vicious, afraid that we will wipe them out in one fell swoop. They have no fixed abode and move stealthily.”

”We can only wait for the rabbits.”

”Wait for the rabbits?”

”Yes, I think that the savages will come again to retaliate against us. Gather everyone and tell them that if there is an attack by the savages, do not resist. Surrender and communicate our willingness to make peace to them, ask them to appoint a time and place where we can negotiate face to face. I guess the savages do not really want to kill all our miners; they just want the Crystal Stones.”

”Hmm, you’re right. Mining is a tough job, and it’s difficult for the savages to do it themselves. Besides, if they capture a mine and start mining, it would be a disaster for them. We would block them in the tunnels and kill them all, so the savages will not mine themselves.”

After chatting with Yang Xiao for a while, David made up his mind, called a meeting on the spot, and proposed the strategy of peace talks, demanding all mining team leaders to go back and tell their miners immediately that if they encounter an attack by the savages, they should convey our proposal for peace to them.

After the order was issued, all the mining team leaders immediately returned to their respective operations and began emergency mobilization.

Two days later, Chi Lin, who worked in the logistics area of the base, found Yang Xiao.

”Yang Xiao, can we go to the mining site overnight together tomorrow?”

”Hmm? What’s the matter?”

”Tomorrow is Old Nine’s birthday. The last time I went to see him, he brought it up unintentionally, and I promised to bring him a birthday cake and celebrate his birthday.”

Yang Xiao: ”...”

”Do you need to be so romantic? Are you guys for real?”

Chi Lin rolled his eyes at Yang Xiao and said,

”I am from Green Dragon City, and he is from Qianliu Island. Old Nine studied at Tianguang City University, and we were classmates. We used to be very close,”

”Get to the point, is it true love or not?”

Chi Lin looked at Yang Xiao speechlessly, ”..., everyone here is thousands of miles away from home, no, 84 light-years away, on this strange planet, only a dozen of us know each other and depend on each other for survival. Don’t you have any compassion? Don’t you feel the slightest bit of loneliness? Have you truly integrated into the alien world?”

Yang Xiao was startled, sighed and said,

”The mines are not safe lately, can we make up for the birthday later?”

”Alas, what’s safe or not safe, if today is not safe, will tomorrow be safe? What if Old Nine dies tomorrow, then won’t I owe him a birthday for the rest of my life?”

Yang Xiao: ”..., alright, I will talk to David. Tomorrow, I will take Chi Lin with me to spend the night at the mine.”

(There’s still the fifth update, don’t wait up, it’s late.)
